Heat and bond. The edges are held with fraycheck. I was concerned the applique would make it look too bulky

walking in tengu geta is supposed to be pretty easy, its standing still thats the hard part. id do what other anon said and put a piece of clear acrylic at the heel, or just suck it up and go with geta that have 2 teeth. tengu geta are pricey as hell anyway, unless you plan on making them yourself.
Let me know how the tengu geta work out for you, I'm using 2-tooth right now, but I really wanna switch.

I can't wait to do my first 2hu crossplay. I've been putting it off for years but I'm gonna finally commit to doing Touhouvania Sakuya. I was planning on debuting at Touhoucon but since that's looking dead I'll probably do it at ALA 2017. How is the Touhou cosplay community in Socal?

It isn't too bad haha. As a matter of personal choice though, I tend to steer away from costume choices which include elements which are "boyish". I find that it is quite counter-productive to crossplay.

How do you people get over your insecurities when cosplaying characters? I think I'm ugly as sin so I find it really hard to get motivated enough to cosplay when I think about people laughing at my cosplay because I'm ugly and/or it being not perfect or anything. Wear makeup. Practice putting on your makeup beforehand. Don't spend too much time in your hotel room or the bathroom fixing it--that's what your practice time was for. Final Seal that shit and get out of there.
Remember that people aren't going to go out of their way to photograph you and make fun of you. If someone takes your picture, they probably really like your costume! And remember that congoers are awkward weebs, so a lot of people who don't ask for your picture probably like your costume too. They just aren't familiar with the source material and are too shy to ask you who you are and what you're from.

Touhou is a really small fandom, so think of your costume as more of an identifier and convo starter. Don't get too caught up with how good/bad you look. Just do your best during the process of costume preperation and try to have fun at the con.

For the same costume? That sounds great! Try looking up poses before that, especially dynamic poses with the sword and shield. Do you have any experience with propmaking though? It seems like the shield has kinda warped. Would be good if you could fix it

I'm actually working on the new shield and improving the paint job on the sword for the friend! I will be using some wood to make the shield so it can match the same texture as the sword. Ill definitely be doing ALOT sword and shield pose research since this was the first time I posed with props like that. Thank you for the help anon~

Thanks! I altered it from a pretty common dress pattern. Doing a mockup with scrap fabric is a pretty good way to test where the seams end up and what you can expect.
