I bought a pre-braided wig for Arda because I'm going to be cosplaying a character with braids, but after just a few minutes of wear and styling the hair looks incredibly messy. Is there a way to smooth everything out again, or is my only hope in undoing the braids and doing them over again? Sorry if the photo turns out sideways.

I need help. If you can believe it, my friend's looking for a bunnysuit, or perhaps a good method of making one. Since I'm well-known to be the obsessive creep on this subject, she's asking me for help. While I've been looking, I see a lot of flimsy ones being sold online, and yet a lot of pretty cosplayers who've pulled their suits off very well.
Would anyone happen to have experience with these bunnysuits, or have a good way of going about making one? Maybe even know a place to buy a nice one? It seems she's looking for a black one in particular, or at least that's all she's found so far, but red might work well on her as well.
Lastly, I should mention she's about 5'7, quite thin, and somewhat small-chested. I don't think she'd like me to post pics, also.
Pic related is the best point of reference I've found for a well-made suit, but I'm no expert.
What's the best way to print or stencil a pattern onto fabric? It needs to be reusable. The pattern is something I could cut out as a stencil but I need to cover too much square footage to use freezer paper.

So my boyfriend needed a fairly complex wig. He commissioned this person off coscom after only looking at their reviews on there, which are fairly good. However the progress/finished photo of this wig is absolute shit. I asked their name and upon googling their DA it's very apparent they only turn out shit. Everything is cut poorly and a greasy matted mess. Is he out of line to either request a refund or file a PP claim? He SHOULD have done better research instead of being impatient, but the work this person is shitting out is by no means worth the money.

So, I was an idiot and I didn't properly mask a shirt I was airbrushing. I got a bit of paint where I don't want it. I got most of it out with soap and water, but there's still a visible smudge. Any ideas for getting acrylic paint out of fabric?

If you need to make a really large, reusable stencil, your best bet is to get one custom printed, cut, and laminated.
Otherwise, just use multiple sheets of paper and either piece them together or use them piece by piece.
What are you trying to do? Having a picture of the final product would help us give you some advice.
If you're talking about how to apply paint using the stencils, just use decent quality acrylic paint, fabric medium, and a little water if it's super thick and dab it on using a sponge.

It doesn't have to be large, but paper has the same problem as freezer paper. It's not reusable. I need to stencil a design on trim so it's narrow but it totals out to about 5 meters in length. Way too much to cut stencil to cover the entire thing.

plenty of patterns for this type of hat exist, just google "wizard hat pattern"
as far as keeping it standing, you can run a bit of thick gauge wire through the back. Something firm enough to keep its form, but pliable enough to move around to shape. Alternatively you can stuff the hat. Sew a piece of fabric into the part where your head goes, deep enough to fit your head and then stuff the rest of the cone. Or do a combination of both for a full yet standing look.

What you're looking for is called "Schmere". It comes in a wide variety of dirt colors and textures and is great as it won't rub off on other fabrics, or hands, but can be washed off.

Whether buying it or making it, you'll want to make sure that it has proper boning. The main reason so many cheap bunny suits look like they don't fit well is that they don't have decent quality boning in them, which causes them to quickly lose their shape and sag.

Go to a fabric store. There are huge books here that show all the patterns that store currently carries. It's not likely that you will find a jacket pattern with that exact color blocking layout though, so you'll have to either paint it, or appliqué it, or piece panels together.
As for learning to make your own patterns, that takes a lot of time to learn. You have to know a lot about how patterns work first. Pattern drafting is a huge undertaking. I would start by learning how to use and read patterns first, then learn how to alter them gradually, until you are much more comfortable with them.

bodyline is quite well-loved still, some of their dresses are just shit quality and some are worn almost exclusively by itas. blouses are 100% fine (as long as they're the nicer ones they have; look up reviews), bloomers should be fine but they're honestly ridiculously easy to make yourself so I wouldn't buy them, and shoes from bodyline are actually great from what I've heard so you should def get shoes from there, especially if there's a sale
Is it possible at all to remove fabric paint? I'm about to use it to finish a costume but I have the shakiest hands ever and I'm worried about messing it up terribly. I know just washing it out doesn't work, so is there anything else I can do to touch it up or anything? (stencils generally don't help keep my work super clean either unfortunately)

Instead of freehanding it, make a stencil. If you're still worried you'll mess it up, put some tape around the edges so even if you mess up, it'll go on tape. Peel up the tape after the paint dries. If the clothing is doubled over and the fabric paint could bleed through to the other side, put cardboard in between the layers.

that looks like a heavily specialized marching band or military theme jacket. The things on the shoulders are called epaulettes, but you can just google "jacket with shoulder tassels" and get better results. As far as finding a base, your best bet looks like getting a red p/leather jacket and adding all the trim and epaulettes.

I think EVA foam is fine as long as you use the thicker stuff. I don't think there's any need to use worbla. It'll only add a lot of unnecessary weight. If you look at other people's Bill Ciphers they seem to have either covered their base material in fabric or used yellow upholstery foam.
As far as tips, I'd probably support the costume on my shoulders rather than my head/neck. After a while walking around con or wherever it'll put a lot of strain on your neck.

It's called a flounce. Like circle skirt, it's cut on the curve. You can cut a flounce in a spiral or as a portion of a circle depending on the fullness and drape you want. If you google the term you'll get images and tutorials.

clothes: I'd actually consider using a thicker, military clothing kind of fabric for this. vinyl is shitty to work with (especially as a beginner), and you're unlikely to find clubwear with the right colour and fit. it's a pretty basic low-cut vest and shorts, just with hip cutouts. you can do boot covers pretty easily, there's a load of tutorials up on the tut thread here right now. a glove and a ribbon shouldn't be hard to make either. the orange trim can be done using ribbon (kinda annoying to stitch and shiny), actually trimming that stuff with orange fabric (similar heavy type fabric; might be a bit awkward to work with), or by using fabric paint (pre-tape shit before doing this for nice lines, and try it out on a scrap first).
the belt you'll probably just have to try and hunt down, bright coloured belts shouldn't be too hard to come across - or you could try dying a white one. those ones out of weird plasticky fabric should work for dying. I can't really help you on the holster.
armbands: I have no idea what material these are supposed to be, but fabric/ribbon is probably easiest.
I believe there's a pretty similar nerf gun available and there are countless nerf gun mod (paint) tutorials online, so that's by far the easiest way to do that. if you don't want a nerf you could try to make the prop yourself, which I can't help you with. also don't know much about wig, but it looks like it might have to be a lacefront, which is challenging.
I can't really tell you if you'll be able to do it without knowing anything about your current skills. I'm not sure if I would attempt it myself (I'm not particularly good at sewing but I've made a basic dress myself, with some help drafting and making darts), but if I did I would make mockups of the vest, shorts and glove first to check the fit.

It really doesn't matter since all color variations are recognizable/have been done at this point (and you could argue whether it's stylized black or really blue to justify it). First link is the Kill La Kill cosplayer who made her own take on the method. The picture you linked was made by a Japanese cosplayer. The KLK cosplayer used the same method as the Japanese cosplayer, but used liquid latex to cover the breasts instead of fabric. And it's unclear how the KLK'er made her straps
Keep in mind that this isn't 100% all purpose because you have to cover the seams with whatever costume you're wearing.

I'm planning on cosplaying the girl on the left for a con in may. I want her dress to have metallic gold stripes but I can't find any top-mid weight fabric with stripes. Short answer is yes.
Is this your first time flying? I'm not asking to be condescending, but because there are some things you learn as you go.
Basically:
90% of airlines allow two "carry on" items. These are relatively small bags that you can have with you on the plane. There are a lot of restrictions on what you can carry on, no weapons, explosives, large volumes of liquids, there's a list if you search online.
There is also "checked luggage" which is your travel suitcases, boxes, whatever. This stuff goes in the cargo hold of the plane, so you won't have access to it until you get to your destination. There are size limitations, but not nearly as small as carry on items. There are also weight limitations, usually 50 lbs (off the top of my head). If you go over these limitations you're either not allowed to take it in or have to pay a pretty steep fee. Some airlines allow for one free checked bag, others charge, usually in the $40 ballpark, U.S. All this information also available online.
You want to check in your stuff. But you more than likely won't be able to check something over-sized like a spear in unless you're able to break it down into pieces to put in a suitcase. You could do stretch vinyl but its a bitch to sew. I think you could also use neoprene, but that's little harder to find and very insulated. I think that your picture is a molded chest plate over a stretch vinyl body suit but its hard to say for sure. About 2 years ago, I made a Godoka cosplay and attempted a bow to go with it but it all went to shit.

Besides, you already got your answer. Any brand of spray paint will work. Krylon and Rustoleum are the big brands you can find just about anywhere and work consistently.
And I'm not sure what you mean by "too thick". It's paint. Despite what deviant art might want you to believe, you don't blast whatever you're painting point blank with a massive stream of paint. Read the instructions on the can, stay about a foot away and mist the thing with light passes. Let dry. Coat again. Rinse and repeat until you get the desired coverage.
If you want to watch somebody do it, check out the Tested channel on youtube. Particularly things featuring Adam Savage, the guy from Mythbusters. He doesn't use rattle cans every episodes, but when he does the man is a freaking master.

I need fabric suggestions for Strange Juice, the girl in the middle.
It's supposed to be like a superhero outfit and the side orange panels/cape are supposed to be transparent so I thought about making it with something like stretch vinyl, but I don't have a lot of experience with complicated designs in stretch fabrics. (I'm going to make a mock-up no matter what, but I don't want to buy draft fabric until I know what my final fabric will be)
I'm worried that vinyl will be really unflattering/show every wrinkle if I don't fit it perfectly, and for that matter even though I personally love the look of high gloss I know a lot of others think it looks tacky and I want to look good. I think I'll do the oranges on the sides and the cape in some kind of vinyl but as for the rest of the dress, I'm not sure. I'd love if it could have a bit of sheen to it (and ideally some stretch, but now I'm second guessing myself on the stretch part too) but I'm really clueless and don't even know names of fabrics despite sewing for years and years, I just go to the store and touch everything.... Also I know vinyl can be really unforgiving if you make a mistake and need to remove thread so I think I'd be better off going with real fabric instead of just plastic.

You are right that stretch vinyl would be best for this, but if you are hesitant to work with that, look for wet look spandex. It won't be as glossy, but will have a nice shine to it and is a bit more forgiving than vinyl. I do recommend that you attach a walking foot onto your machine, or, at the very least, use some tissue paper between the fabric. That should reduce some of the sliding it tends to do.

I've usually just picked something that says it's suitable for plastics but autobody primers should work well considering cars tend to have fiberglass finishing. Trust me, you don't want to be blind when you're at a con. Even having partial vision impairment sucks. And don't give me "I'll only put it on for pictures" cos how the hell are you gonna face a camera you can't see.
Best bet. Make the P out of foam and cut a small area where your eyes will be and put in a fine mesh that's the same color as the mask. Tulle works pretty well for this. It won't look perfect but you won't be blind.

You don't. If you don't even have a plan you're not going to get anything remotely close to acceptable quality unless you're some sort of god of sewing.
That being said, break it down into all its individual pieces and figure out how you want to make them. One at a time is usually best for sanity, but everyone has their own process.
Let me try and help.
Cloth elements:
cape, front part of the belt, forearms, shins, the undersuit (you can probably get away using a maskless zentai suit)
Foam elements (armor like or more rigid pieces):
Collar and pauldrons (this can be made into a connected piece or three separate elements, two shoulder pieces and the collar), Hand guards, thigh pieces, knee guards, shoe covers, potentially the rest of the belt.
arguably the torso/cod piece can be made from foam to match the aesthetic of the thigh pieces, however that means you won't be able to bend over/sit while you have it on.
Miscellaneous elements that can be made using a variety of methods: pyramid embellishments (you can sculpt them out of clay and cast them to have consistent copies, make them out of foam, use styrene or other similar plastic sheet), dot embellishments found on the collar and hands (dots of hot glue, paper fastners), jewelry the forehead piece, earings and necklace (will more than likely have to be sculpted, sculpey isn't the worst thing you could us)
If you want to go full masochist:
Hair, prosthetics and makeup.
Look at the design and don't look at it as a whole but the sum of it's shapes. Sometimes I like to look at my reference images upside down or cut it into pieces using gimp, shit but you could even use paint. It'll break up the overall form enough for your brain to not want to perceive it as "Ganondorf"

If you're jumping into a costume that complex you should be prepared to do the embroidery and attach the gemstones. That dress looks all detail, and trying to do it with an 'easy' option like fabric printing will look bad.

I'm making Madoka's skirt following Rufflebutt's tutorial, top skirt is a circle skirt gathering top and bottom.
Some friend said I need at least x6 my size of skirt because of when you gather the fabric will make it shorten. I need at least 6x6 m but my fabric is 5x1'5 m. I cannot obtain more than 1'5 my length.

The width of your skirt will definitely shorten because you're gathering it, but that won't affect the length. So you you'll need to cut it to the length you want, but 6x your waist size.
In the case that you do need a piece of fabric 6X6 m, you'll have to cut the skirt in panels. ex. divide your waist into 6 parts (3 front, 3 back), each part should fit within the width of the fabric. If not, separate the skirt into more panels (my Akuma Homura originally had 12 panels).

Any good theatre grade body paint will do, really. The trick is to be sure to use a setting powder/spray afterwards, and also use a sealer.
Also, I personally would only use the makeup on my face and chest, and not for my arms and hands. It's usually much harder to get that looking even on your own, and your palms sweat much more than most any other place on your body, and that may wear off. Instead, I would make some tight fitting sleeves with gloves in a color matching your makeup.

What design are you doing? How detailed is it? You can have a model wear it while you paint it (or vice versa), you can stuff each limb /torso seperately as you work on it with a flat board such as pink insulation foam.
If it's super detailed, I'd suggest seam ripping the body suit and pinning each piece taught on a piece of pink insulation foam, painting each piece, then resewing it together.

I've done similar things to wigs, but my solution is permanent, so you have to be prepared to keep the wig on a wig head when not in use to prevent tangles.
Tie off the hair with some string/fabric (not elastic because it will melt), then take a long rectangle of foam and hot glue/wrap it in the shape of the bead. Then, glue on the extra trim/paint/etc.

YES! Practice first! And to show you what I mean, here is a wig I did with the hot glue at the bottom.
The green band at top is just a metal hair clip with a green band over it - it stayed up. I can take it out and gently comb out the ponytail (up to the lower part) if needed. But the bottom is permanently glued.
I also sprayed it all down with a lot of cheap hairspray so it wouldn't tangle in the first place. If it works with a long ponytail, it should work for a tiny side piece like yours. :)

Honestly, I would email a reputable site like smooth-on (check their website first, they are hollywood suppliers) and ask them for a transluscent product that you can tint and pour onto a live body. And send them your reference pic.

Unless each strand of your hair is half an inch thick, then it is not too thick for a wig. To help with fitting it though, try straightening it out, doing a lot of tiny braids, and then curl them up into loops over your head. Put on your wig cap and pin the braided loops to that, then put on your wig and pin that to the wig cap.
I'm making a vault suit for a friend, and our group is using the "defined vault suit" mod as a reference (see pic related). My plan is to do a mockup in a cheap stretch fabric, draw on where I need all the extra panels to be, then cut it up and use those pieces as a pattern. I'm using a pre-pintucked fabric for the areas with really tiny pintucks (crotch and chest panels). There's a lot of weird detailing on this version, like the darker blue lines on the jumpsuit around the knees and such. My question is: is there a better way to imitate those lines without putting in piping fucking everywhere? I was wondering if I could do a tight zigzag stitch in a darker blue thread instead. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've never been but my con budget is always between $300-$800. I keep my own food since my hotel has a refrigerator and the only time I pay for food is if I go to a restaurant with friends. So that's $60-$70 for the whole weekend. Everything I'm interested in fr the area can be walked to, but if need be I take a cab that's about $20. Always have emergency money in cake you need to gtfo or something. But I tend to buy prints, body pillows, and other junk so that's why it's between that much. I plan on cosplaying, Chiaki Nanami, Rei Ayanami and Flandre scarlet. So if anyone gulls have some recommendation for the false lashes for each character and a good wig for Chiaki/Flandre I would be ecstatic
I'm going to make this costume, my question is, is it possible for me to gradient dye this first, and paint on the pattern with bleach afterwards? Any better suggestions? I've been considering plain white fabric paint as well, but I thought bleach would've been better.

Nah bleach could come out uneven and yellowish or run in places. You for sure want to use fabric paint. CosplayhelpwithDecember on tumblr has a good fabric painting tutorial for that kind of thing, I'd link it but I'm on mobile and there's only like three tutorials on the page so you'll find it fast.

How long is your hair?
Is it waist length and super thick? Then you can still get inside a wig.
Where do you buy wigs? If you get chinese ones with 20" caps then no wonder you have a problem. Arda and Epic cosplay have way bigger caps, you will be able to fit your hair under there.
Source: has thick waist length hair, head measurement of 23.5" and I've never not been able to get my hair in a wig.

Make it a solid bead with a pattern, make the hole inside no bigger than 8mm in diameter. Get the hair section, which looks like it'll be all the way back to the ear and thread it through.
Thread it through by getting some strong thread and putting a loop through the bead, then hair inside the loop and pull through.
Same method Chii cosplayers use on their hair beads, which ime don't move unless they're too big. The more hair in a small hole the less likely the thing is to move.

I second this. I used to have really long, thick hair (waist length before I cut it off into a bob) and Arda's bigger wig caps really help. In addition to that, you'll also want to look up ways on how to put your hair up underneath. Pin curls worked the best for me and for my friend (who has way thicker hair than I did), it evens out the hair across your head so you don't have some areas that are more bulky than others.

Best way I can think of is install and led light into the cig, a speaker somewhere on your person, hook it up to a switch and a sound board/arduino/raspberry pi/etc and have it light up and play the song whenever you flip the switch. Only downside to this is you gotta run a wire to the ecig to wherever everything else is. Basically you can't let go of the thing.
Best solution for that I can think of is put a piece of velcro or a mount on your wrist to hold it while you're not.

I agree with >>8957997 I think paint wouldn't be a great idea. The pattern is colored pretty lightly, you might not be able to achieve the right color if you paint after you dye. Either way, a stencil is going to save you a lot of frustration whether you wax block or paint.

Unlike you, I know how to budget my money. It's a costume. I'll wear it once or twice. I don't need to spend a fortune to cry when the people I commission screw me over.
