My first cosplays were, yknow, closet stuff with simple wigs, and I'd talk to a lot of people at conventions all the time.

If you do this again, two things:
Try to work on blending that prosthetic. The edges are VERY jarring and ruin the entire illusion.
Since I'm anti-paint anon from the previous thread, please get a different sweater! You can already see the paint crack in your pictures which is a shame because if you're going to wear this again, they're only going to get worse.

Sewed up the sides and pinned the shoulders. Testing with the white robe. Obnoxious rainbow lining will be echoed in an iridescent paint job on the shoulder armour. Anyway, here's a baby's first redlining for you. I've also circled problem areas: namely the incorrect placement of the bolts + the lack of vertical 'seam' connection from the cheek panel up to the eye, and ofc, the gross two-tone lip.
lines on the cheek should run parallel to your cheekbone, and be drawn straight, or with very little curve. Your vertical line is mostly fine, b/c it ISN'T a straight line -- the slight curvature really helps sell the look of the panelling occurring on a three-dimensional plane (that is, your face.)
Powder your nose a little better, I can see the pink of your real skin peeking through with the shine.
If you insist on the stupid two-tone lip, then at least get a lip pencil for the pink part.
Drawn-on fake lashes look juvenile and tacky instead of fashionable or glamourous. Please get some false lashes instead to create that look more successfully.
Your eyebrow is too thick all the way around. Take a look at the eyebrows of male models. Shaped, masculine eyebrows do exist; please take note of them.
Also, this is a personal suggestion, but by no means an objective one: Try doing the panelling shading up from the bottom next time. Personally, I've found it to look more successful, but ymmv.

I finally got to wear my Alphys out! People who have been around in the past threads might have seen me post the mask. Even though it was a lot of fun, I've had some issues. Mostly heat-related and, as a result, being underprepared in dealing with sweatiness. Next time I'll invest in one of those heavy duty anti-perspirants.

If anyone in here has done a fursuit head, could I get some advice on how to deal with visibility? It was piss poor in this suit. The eyes were buckram, I painted the back black, all the usual tricks but it really didn't help. Had to constantly take out the eyes and place them back for pictures.

Heat issue-
Does the mouth open? If not, try opening it. If it does, maybe open it more and keep it static.
Under the head you should have a balaclava hood on. This helps with heat.
The eyes are vents as well. If they're too small heat will struggle to escape.
If you're nervous, you can make the nostrils into vents too.
If the fan is too small, then there's not much you can do there.
Visibility-
Bigger eyes, that's really about it. Vision is always going to suck in a fursuit, especially depending on the foam base and how big your blindspot is.
The construction of the head looks a little long though, so air flow seems lacking.

How was your visibility in this? I've noticed that if I look through the eyes on my suit, I look through both the white eyepart and black pupil at the same time, and it makes it very hard to see overall. I'm guessing since your eyes are bigger you can choose to just look through the white part?
In what sense does my mask look long? The entire head is face-tight (which would explain away my circulation problems, there's no room), except for the nose.

I looked at runway trends of current and past, drag looks, historical looks, alternative fashion looks, avant garde runways and got NOTHING.
This leads me to one remaining conclusion: That the origin of the two-tone lip did not originate in fashion at all, but instead in fanart and other illustrative works. The two-tone lip makeup is just transposing the look of the 2D art onto a 3D form. The issue with this, however, is that a real-life, 3D face will cast different lights and shadows than a 2D illustration. The two-tone lip has no consideration for the 3D space it exists in, and so when light and shadow comes into play, the results look unappealing. Of course, even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and the two-tone lip can look good under very specific lighting conditions, but unless you're in a controlled setting (such as an indoor photoshoot with lighting) you shouldn't rely on the lighting working in your favour, cus it sure as shit won't always be doing so.
Whether you base in silver, grey, or white, Mettaton's makeup is a high-contrast look, so you've got to be very careful about how and where you place your colours (and how intense to make them.) You can very quickly get into mime or clown territory, which is something that I would think you'd want to avoid if you're goal is to look like an attractive TV star (or just attractive at all...)

I totally agree. Sure, MTT is supposed to look a bit feminine but people seem to go way too far with it almost always. In the game, he still does look very much like a guy despite his feminine qualities, while in fanart and cosplays he is almost always portrayed as looking outright female. A number of people I know actually thought he was a girl before playing the game because of how he is depicted in fanon and were very surprised to see how he actually was in canon.
Mettatons with feminine makeup just do not look like the character to me. Especially if you are a girl cosplaying him, wouldn't you want to go with more masculine makeup?

Well foam is the most common base for mascots/fursuits. It's easier to manipulate and create expressions with than some materials. That's why makers commonly choose it. Unless you know how to do resin or want to risk paper mache like I've seen done a few times, foam is really the safest, easiest and best to work with.

My method isn't really good for someone who HAS to wear glasses to get around, though. It's a bit too tight around my head for that. I'm not familiar with paintball masks, but can you remove the safety glasses part on them? You can use all the help for vision and air circulation you can get.
I'd snoop around the fursuit LiveJournal to see if the question of glasses under the mask has come up. It's a fairly good resource place, but a lot of the info is old and might be outdated.

To add on to this from an illustrative point of view: Lips get two-toned in art mostly to mimic how the upper lip is in shadow in real life. People drawing it black are obviously doing a huge exaggeration, I suppose people are taking people's art styles a little too literally? It's sort of like drawing comic book lines on your face... You're trying to make the abstract work in reality, it's just never going to look right to some folks. And even then, it's still only ever going to look ok from certain angles and lighting conditions.
I remember the two-toned lips being used in the Cats musical (as well as being extremely common in face painting), but it makes a hell of a lot more sense because they are deliberately trying to make their lips show the :3 shape cats actually have (pic related). Deer don't have this shape at all so I don't know where that idea came from. Neither do humanoid robots, that one's completely beyond me.

Asriel-anon here again. I got a pair of white thigh-highs to make gloves a la the armsock method (I don't need/want a full pair of tights, b/c not that much of my hands are going to be exposed) but the pair I used to make my armsock base are too thin and you can see the seams along the sides of the finger.
Does anyone have a brand they can recommend that keeps their opacity/ is a particularly thick nylon?

Forgive me if it's a dumb suggestion (never cosplayed a character who needed arm socks) but if you don't need all of your arm covered why not just get something like white opera gloves?

I looked into that, actually. The biggest issue with doing that is being able to find something matte; something with a satin finish (like most opera gloves) look more like gloves than actual skin, and also tend to have more obvious seams around the thumb/fingers and aren't as tight to the skin as a good armsock. Part of the reason I want a thigh-high (or shit, even knee-high) stocking as a base is so that I can get the convenience of a glove that can come off so that I can do things like eat without having to worry about dirtying my white gloves, or do things like grab or touch things without having to worry about monster claws getting in the way.
If someone can recommend me a good nylon glove that can provide the same matteness/skintightness w/o obvious seams, then I'd gladly check it out.

I've done both welovecolors shoulder gloves and target tights (the premium ones) armsocks and the armsocks looked so much more natural and were easier to wear than the gloves. Plus they looked better in pictures.
When I did the gloves I had a couple pics taken of me with flash and they made the glove material sheen so hard it looked like I picked them up at party city or something. The armsocks were far lighter too and I didn't overheat like I did with the gloves.
I'd recommend the target tights for making armsocks (specifically the premium ones that are like $2 extra) but if you're going with white I can't promise whether or not they'll be super opaque. White is weird when it comes to opacity.

i think you should restart. one of the main problems with your piece is that you've stretched out the head way too far vertically, which doesn't help flatter the already strangely oval shape it has. make sure you look at a reference while you work, too. i'm not sure which brother you're doing (assuming sans, so forgive me if my advice is incorrect) but try to make sure you get some defining features in there. it'll help take it from 'basic skeleton' to 'easily recognizable undertale skeleton'

I used the target tights (Merona, I think?) for mine and they're pretty opaque. Just make sure you're getting the premium kind as opposed to the regular and that you're getting a pair big enough that they don't get stretched too thin.

What you do is trace your hand on cardboard and cut it out, then stick that inside the tights and stitch around that with the machine on the smallest stitch setting. I stitched a little bit up the forearm because my wrists are tiny so there's not a lot of space there, but otherwise the tights at their normal size should be enough room. You keep them from ripping by putting fray check or something on the seams and just being careful when you pull them on.

Got a decent pic of my finished box Mettaton. I ran out of time making armsocks to replace the arms in the pic but I think it turned out okay.
Some things I really need to fix is the bump at the front at the top (from my head holding it up) and putting a microphone in there hooked up to the speaker so I can actually talk to people instead of shouting.
