Anyone been here before or attending this weekend?
I am . This is my fourth ( I think ) year going. I just go Saturday because I'm in the suburbs but it's not a bad con. Guests are kinda meh for me this year so besides the Roddenberry panel I'm probably just going to shop and head home.
I went the 2nd year, never wanted to go back again. Am from Chicago and it's a glorified trade show masquerading as a convention.
That being said I'm bored today and would be willing to meet up with some anons if they want to make friends.
Avoid going if you are male, you will be accused of sexual assault just by walking down a hall way.

Kind of a shitty year. Dealers hall felt oddly spaced , the shuttle didn't service union so took a cab both ways, and that bag line was weird. Had a rude woman who worked for either McCormick or the con give me shit as I left the bus stop. Unless they get a really good guest list I'm not gonna bother.
quick question: what do i wear to this if i dont really care about comics? vidya? im being forced to go to this con by my sister tomorrow, and i have no idea what to pick out from my closet

It's a pretty general con. Lots of Disney , vidya and some anime. Basically anything but obscure anime will cut it.

This was kind of a shit year. I contemplated not going because I wasn't interested in any of the guests, but I did go Friday and Saturday for a few hours and just walked the floor and took a few pictures. There weren't even any panels I cared about. If the guest list is crap again next year I won't bother.
Yeah, the shitty events coupled with no good guest made this a disappointing year. Although, I met a friend so I might end up going back for 2017
Odd, I'd expect a thread for this to be more active. Anyway, I was Lana today and constantly switched to my slippers because my heels feel worse every time I touch them.
It was my first time and I'd go back next year but saturday only. Also tried speed dating for the first time which was fun.

Yeah this year was pretty lackluster overall, however I still had a great time because a lot of artists I really like did show up that I haven't seen before. It was really awesome to go see their tables and check out their stuff.

Out of 15 guys, only 2 made me and my friend uncomfortable. 7 were actually really great and made 3 minutes seem like 20 seconds, the rest were meh.
You should try it. Just dont sit silently and stare like a creep. Even the guys who let me talk would at least nod.

They got Supergirl and Sons of Anarchy actors and the C-list actors in the popular scifi/fantasy/superhero shows. And NPR Ask me Another? I thought it had enough money to bring in at least the main actors for other shows like Flash or Arrow or Jessica Jones or Daredevil (given that there was just Heroes and Villians Fanfest in Rosemont that might've made those CW shows actors to cancel but still...) Good year for comic artist guests though, got Mike Mignola? Cosplay contest quality was legit though

What was that Rias Gremory gal thinking competing with such a simple costume? It was easily the weakest in the entire show, how did it even get to the top 10? Something the judges get that I'm missing? And lol at the host saying "Ry-az Gre-MORE-ry".

This was the first time I've attended this con and considering that I don't go to cons very often, I enjoyed my time there.
I was just hyped about the art being sold and cool merch. And there were some very admirable cosplays. My friend went as Rose quartz with a Mr.Universe shirt and she even made the war flag.
It was pretty rad.
Then my other friend went as some elf girl from Lord of the rings (not too keen on the characters.)
But yeah it was awesome. I loved how one guy went as Bobcephala (from that one ep of Bob's burgers when Bob becomes a brony)

So yeah, Saturday was a blast. It left me kind of drained on the way home, spent a lot on merch, but I don't regret it. It was pretty fun.
But based on the comments I've been reading it hasn't met people's expectations. What would have made the con better?

First year for me and I honestly had a great time. But we had a room in the Hyatt so that was fucking awesome. I was just happy that walking around with open booze seemed both acceptable and encouraged. Always a plus.

I had a great time as well. I feel like a reason people on CGL don't enjoy C2E2 all that much is because it really isn't anime/weeb friendly. It's mostly western shit, so if that's not your thing then you want have as much fun as at say ACEN or Anime Midwest. Still beats the hell out of Wizardworld, though.

So i was by several people, that this was the con in the Chicago area to go to, and it was a little disappointing. WWCC Chicago 2015 was the first Con I've ever been to and I was blown away and loved it. Is C2E2 usually this lack-luster or was just a bad year.

I went to my last anime con nine years ago and it's been a decade since I gave a shit about anime. I've been going to western fandom conventions since and have enjoyed C2E2 in the past. It was just crap this year.

I've been going to C2E2 since it first started and I definitely think that this year wasn't nearly as good as the other years. I have good faith that next year will be better, though. The cosplay this year seems like it was way less and nothing too special overall.

There was actually another girl dressed as her Sunday, I wanted her picture but at the time she was on the phone. didn't see her again after that lol.
So why isn't the CCC bigger on /cgl/ when it's supposedly THE cosplay competition of the world of the year? Not only is the the greatest cosplayers from around the globe but also top notch judges including Yaya Han and Oscar winner for Mad Max costume design as well as others.
Is it a lack of advertising? What's wrong here?

I was surprised at how little she was. I know /cgl/ rags on her a lot but she honestly doesn't look bad in person at all even though she's covered in about 3 inches of make up. She looked the same as her photos, just tinier.

Yaya has been around since the stone age and has put a shitton of work into building her personal brand. It's a combination of groundflooring this hobby in the US, working her ass off to stay visible and build her construction skills, and actively trying to turn it into her primarily/only gig. The dozens of other cosplayers making very high end stuff these days don't necessarily want to make cosplay their job, and if they do they're getting a much later start than Yaya did.

I would definitely try a Saturday at ACEN if you can go? There's definitely a higher overall level of cosplay around that con, but perhaps not as awesome as some C2E2 ones.

When you have to compete against existing cosplay competitions such as WCS World Championship happening in Japan (honestly, Chicago is pretty dull and dirty in comparison) and the lack of big name cosplayers in the Midwest, it won't do as well compared to other cons. Like ACEN always happens at the end of the semester for college students, so that crowd can attend. Also, it happens right before ACEN so many people would pick ACEN over C2E2 if it comes down to budgeting. I think CCC doesn't have any skits so it was kinda boring to watch too.
I would suggest booking more USA cosplayers that are regular cosplay guests in the anime con circuit, since they have more social media power for advertising the convention, which attracts more youtubers filming higher quality con mvs, which attracts more people to go to the con, etc.
I hope it grows since it's definitely easier for me to get there via train/bus compared to ACEN and AMW!
