I think my DR bag is finished until the new anime/game comes out or I manage to buy some tin badges...
>>
>>8908054
omg anon, i love this! there needs to be more dr bags out there
>>
>>8908062
Yeah, it sucks a lot of the merch that came out semi recently was with art from the anime I'd like to forget was ever made.
If I lived in Japan or had the money I'd definitely buy enough merch for multiple DR bags lol.
>>
>>8908068
i feel you, i went to japan last summer and didn't get nearly enough for a bag, if i ever go again i'm definitely making one for mukuro (true about the anime being shit though good lord)
>>
>>8908054
so cute!!

>>8908062
i'm actually working on a komaeda bag myself! i have a ton of straps and a few badges, but i still have to get my base bag and some more stuff to put on it. just got a new job so i should be able to work on it more soon!! i really like sewing so i'm gonna attempt to make my own base bag inspired by his outfit!
>>
What kind of bag do you prefer? The backpack type, handbag, or shoulder/strap bag? I'm thinking about sewing some clear/itabag bases and possibly selling them online.
>>
>>8908054
Yay!! I'm so glad you finished it; it's super cute. My base bag for Monomi will be here Monday so hopefully I'll put mine together then.
>>
So I'm planning a bag for a character that has zero merch and I'm wondering what places online are best for ordering can badges and acrylic keychains. Any suggestions?
>>
>>8908162
try asking in the artist alley thread? i'm sure they'd have good tips!
>>
>>8908185
Welp, I feel like an idiot. Just checked their resources spreadsheet and it has all the info I need right there. Thanks!
>>
>>8908162
>badges
Artsmoo. Other button making places will have a minimum like 10 of each design, but artsmoo lets you just get one of each.
>keychains
Vograce does acrylic keychains but I believe there's a design minimum as well. Other places you might want to checkout are chillypig and acornpress.
>>
>>8908111
backpacks are really nice imo, they seem a lot safer than bags, and id love more options
>>
>>8908111
I like totes and other shoulder bags. I feel kinda uncomfy having all my merch on my back and I'd rather have it under my arm or whatever.
I got one of the WEGO backpacks and I don't even wear it as a backpack; it's always just hung off one of my shoulders. Makes me wish it was a 2/3-way bag.
>>
>>8908111
I really like those crossbody bags but I can't find clear bags for those.
>>
>>8908229
>>8908162
Artist seagull here. Vograce has 0 MOQ. You can get literally 1 keychain if that's what you wanted. Ordering more will significantly cut down your shipping though.

As for buttons, Vograce does that too. I also have a button maker and am maybe thinking about taking seagull-only orders once the convention season dies down a little bit for me. I could make buttons of anything as long as you're willing to provide me pictures. The only thing I won't do is buttons of other people's fanart. Official art or art you've drawn is all fair game though.

Plus itabags werent hot back then so I never thought about making one.

Kinda related is this tote I always use. The photo is pretty old, since then I've swapped the underwear for my ot3 (Nanami,Komaeda,Hinata). Its a bit dirty now but still holding up really well.
>>
>>8908474
Madoka is literally swimming in merch with different styles and designs.(Plus I reccomend you look at the clothing collab with music earth and ecology)

Here some to start you off, you can just use a proxy to buy it all.

I like bags that look like your conventional fashion handbag and just happen to have a clear window filled with merch rather than overly cutesy stuff or really plain outer clear bag for a tote.
>>
Question, does anyone have any advice to securely sticking a small character pillow to your bag? Like how some are dangling? I don't want to damage my pillow but like it doesn't fit ether but like maybe if it hung out?

I don't know if I'm explaining this well...

>>
To the anon from last thread, the search term for osomatsu-san badges in taobao is 徽章 阿松

If you want to find other merchandise, 阿松 is the general chinese term for osomatsu-san and the name in japanese works too.

Pretty sure most of it is bootleg and I haven't try buying any yet since I end up making an itabag for someone else, I did order an artist's ichimatsu charm though.
>>

np anon, happy to help. Im sure Taobao has a lot of faulty straps you could get in bulk too.

>>8908620
from the top of my head there were some badges released by banpresto for a lottery? either way if badges have a plastic backing theyre usually fake.. Only chinese knock offs have plastic backings.
>>
>>8908478
i'm so tempted to get the komaeda underwear from that set for my itabag you don't even know

i have a lot of friends in the dr fandom and fortunately they're all super chill so i don't really mind advertising that i like it, i cosplay from it a lot too so it's sort of unavoidable anyways. i'm just wary of people i don't know but fortunately i've never had any bad experiences
>>
>>8908501
maybe if you were able to attach a small grommet or something similar in the top section of the pillow? that way you wouldn't have to worry about the fabric tearing or the stuffing coming out around the hole, and you could rope some sort of cord through the grommet to attach it to your bag

hey anon, small tip if you're interested!! i use a backpack just like that for my everyday bag, it's not an itabag but i do have a ton of keychains and junk. it was getting really annoying and cluttered looking for me personally so i attached some safety pins to the inside of the flap so i could hang merch from them so they're not all stuck on just the buckle. i like how it works a lot better so i thought i'd suggest it!! pic related is my bag

Sadly I won't be there today! I'll drop my email too though! I forget which keychain you were specifically interested in but I can send links and stuff if you'd like.
>>
I'm loving all these DR bags! I'm not planning on making one myself (not yet at least) but I recently won an auction for a set of DR merch (shown in the pic) and only plan to keep three of them. (Sonia, Gundam, and Souda) If anyone would be interested in the others let me know! I was planning to sell them once I got them anyway so it may as well be to other gulls.

(I don't have them on hand yet, so I don't want to take any money for them until I actually, physically have them but I've attached an email so if you'd like me to contact you once they arrive feel free to shoot me an email! Once I have them I'll email people back and see if they're still interested in them and if so we can go from there.
If I still have some unclaimed once all that is said and done I may post here again, but with so many people showing their DR bags and talking about them now I figured it couldn't hurt to mention even if it may be jumping the gun a tad.)
>>
>>8908620
That was me, thank you so much! I also found last night that using the Japanese characters brings up a lot too surprisingly.

When it comes to the official merch for Osomatsu-san, I'm personally not too torn up about if it's bootleg or not, as either most of what I want is sold out and gone, or a lot of it just features the same imagery or shots from shows. I do draw the line at bootlegs of fanart, which I see a lot of on eBay sadly.
>>
>>8908700
Taobao has them too, just search "WEGO" and they'll come up. They come up in more colors than on eBay.
>>
>>8908661
For a grommet, don't I have to put a hole in the pillow though? Is there a work around that?

Tfw you can't decide if you want to do a black or purple bag for pic related. I keep fighting with myself that black is more practical but purple...Help?
>>
>>8908474
oh yeah, anon i'm making a madoka bag too and i'd definitely recommend going on myfigurecollection so you can kind of put together a list of what you want. it's basically a huge catalog of merch and it makes going on specific hunts a lot easier
>>
>>8908956
A very dark purple might look cool if you can find a bag in that color, otherwise go with black. I don't think his colors will stand out well against purple unless it's dark.
>>
>>8908956
Personally I'd think a darker purple would look better than black.
I guess it just depends on th density of merch you have, if you have enough purple merch to overtake the black, it would work fine. But because his secondary color is yellow, purple contrasts nicely.

Hey anon! I'm currently working on a TsukkiYama ita bag but haven't figured out what to use as a base.

Wanted to ask about this in general: I started a small collection of merch and I have yet to take them out from their original packaging because in Japan, I know things are only as valuable as their status as close to can be in mint condition.

Do you all keep your merch wrappers/boxes, or toss them out? I have things that are cafe exclusives/district exclusives and wanted to know what other ita bag makers do.

I actually had access to the actual gacha machines when the underwear was released so I ended up getting quite a few characters I wanted but its weird how theyre quite hard to find. (tfw you want Komaedas student card but its like 5k yen)

I had a lot of friends that like dr too but taking a bag to a convention would definitely attract the type of hyper teens that I don't want to interact with.Alternatively I wear DR stuff from listen flavor casually and I have a few people compliment it so its not all bad. Just my con experiences with DR people were bad.

Out of curiosity (sorry for off topic), where did you get your Listen Flavor x DR stuff? I got a few items from their rakuten shop but the Komaeda shirts I wanted were gone (only got one of them in an L, which I thought wouldn't be too bad since it's an asian L but it's quite big on me). I desperately want the 'Lucky' Komaeda shirt but haven't found it anywhere.
>>
I have a question, everyone. I like the display style of the clear tote bag, but I don't care for totes. I like backpacks, but I hate how the heart backpacks look, and there's a lot less room for mercg to display with those types. So I wad wondering if making my own type of bag would be possible? Or finding one similar to a mix of these two types? I would like a bag that looks similarly to a randoseru, with a pull over front flap. The front flap being a clear plastic pocket where I could display my merch, but without being nearly as bulky as a traditional randoseru. That would give me all the room I like with totes, but with the style of a backpack.
>>
>>8909567
Couldnt you just get a regular clear type backpack anon? Or maybe get a randoseru and make a clear plastic cover to cover the flap.
>>
>>8909567
The zakkamart backpack is exactly what you need it sounds like.

The only problem of the pre-made one is that it doesn't close the edges so maybe making your own would be the best way.

Aah, I'm dreading the upcharge if I use yahoo auctions to buy a ton of straps/badges in one sitting. I'm used to just slowly acquiring things, do other people use proxies to buy things all at once? Whats the middleman charge end up being compared to the 3-5 dollar cost for the actual goods?

If you're buying one strap at a time it's about an extra 250 yen per item (in shipping plus commission fee) just to get it to the warehouse. Then some buying services charge money to combine each 'package' (Fuck off Buyee)

Do you mind second hand goods? If not, my best advice is to open up an account with a forwarding service (I use tenso), and start buying from Surugaya. Just chuck whatever you want into your cart, they'll ship it to a warehouse, and pay the commission and shipping fee it takes for it to get to you. Whatever commission fee it is, I doubt its more than paying shipping and commission fee for every individual item.

Pic related is 340 yen and really cute. Surugaya has free shipping for orders over 1800 yen too

Anon, try ebay auctions. There are several sellers from Japan who auction off whole 5+ piece lots for series and gulls bid on them pretty regularly. I got about 10 pieces of Free! merch for under $15 from them.

Here's some of my fave sellers and I see Vocaloid merch pretty regularly with a few.

aw man that sucks. the only ones i have are the nanami one i posted, and the lucky komaeda one (i also have the keychain of that one). my girlfriend bought them for me when she was studying abroad in japan because she is the best ever

Thank you for the link, anon! So sad about the Komaeda shirt being completely gone, I guess I really am out of luck.
Considering buying the other Komaeda shirt I already own but in a different color and sell mine, since mine is pretty big on me. Though it's my fav color so I'm really conflicted. Hn.

Also taking the chance to vent a bit because I'm so fucking dumb. Managed to desperately bid on an keychain I've been trying to get my hands on for the past couple weeks and ended up bidding (and winning) an auction for it.. except the keychain has a couple white scratches on it and I only noticed after bidding, the seller didn't have that specified on the listing's description. I'm so mad at myself. And since I'm stubborn as all hell, I'm going to spend extra money trying to get the same keychain is perfect condition. It's an animate cafe exclusive, I dunno how easily would be to sell the defective one to someone afterwards.

Can itabags be of real people?
Say I really like this one member of this one band and if I made a bag out of pins and fanarts and whatnot of him, would it still be considered an itabag?
>>
>>8910685
Sure! I've seen people do that before of j-rock/k-pop guys, and one person in the facebook group did a bag of their favorite maid from a cafe.

For people looking for Osomatsu merch for their bags: Ebay is really starting to pump out the merch, especially those for Jyushi and Totty.
I have no idea if it's bootleg stuff, but just mentioning. It's about 45 pages on mobile with a third of it being the jackets.

I bought the Ichi coaster (cat version too) from the one seller who has it. Expect to oay around double if you wajt any of the other brothers.

Same goes for most of the merch on eBay that isn't bootlegs. You can get rubber phone straps for about 5-10 depending on style. Pic related is one I ordered a few weeks back for $4.89.

How do you guys deal with merch of fandom-faves costing more than merch of less popular characters? Do you just suck it up and buy it anyway, or choose an alternative character that won't kill your budget? I'm not having this issue right now, I'm just curious how far some people would go for their top husbando/etc.
>>
>>8910833
suck it up and cry while shelling out the moolah. and complaining about how (character i don't like) is more expensive than (character i do like) even though i'm not planning on buying either of them

I'm also making a Madoka itabag for future cons! I find it a bit hard for me to find small merch of her since most of the items I have of her are scale figures (+ Godoka). Good luck to all of us! Please post pictures of progress because I would love to see them!

Not to be an ass but I have a feeling that might not be an offcial strap. Because from experience official japanese straps usually have the crab claw on the rubber strap that clips onto the circular ring/mobile strap. (Unless it has text on the back usually the bootlegs dont have those.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding those tacky anime character plushes we all used to get when we were small weebs. I thought I saw a thread on /jp/ calling them "fumo" I think? The thread is probably still up there.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be so big, in the size charts the difference didn't seem so big but I got a Gundam shirt in S and the Komaeda one in L and the Gundam one fits super nicely, which is weird considering I'm usually an M/asian L. Very confusing sizing. The collab stuff in general is great though, I'm too tempted to grab a few more items, just sad some of my favs didn't get anything (where's my Sonia!).

As for the keychain, yeah, that's what I'm hoping to do. And since another anon mentioned ebay is filling up with Osomatsu merch, I might try to resell the damaged one for a lower price.

Sort of related but for my SEM bag my favorite is Michio then Jiro and I don't hate Maita but I still get his stuff because it wouldn't be SEM without him. Yet on YJ the few SEM items that come up that don't have 2000yen bids for a single keychain are usually Maita. I'm ending up with more of him on my bag than I anticipated.

The free! merchandise market is so saturated with goods anyway that we don't usually see extreme differences between characters' goods (like your pic related), but Haruka, Makoto and Rin are generally more expensive than other boys. I mainly buy Haru stuff for my itabag. When I see items like pic related I just concede defeat and go buy another Haru badge to make me feel better.

I'm trying to do a bag of my SHIP but one half of my ship is unpopular and extremely cheap to get merch, while the other is one of the most popular characters in the fandom and a single keychain can get up to 80 bucks... it's pretty ridiculous.
>>

Has anyone tried to make their own base bag? I like the idea of the keyhole heart backpack, but I'd like it on a shoulder bag instead. I'm considering attempting to make a side of a bag see through since I'm crafty, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it yet.

Came here to ask a similar question - what people's experiences with doing their own artwork/graphics for a totebag and getting it printed? I want to make an anakin/darth vader bag and I haven't found too many bags I really like, plus I thought it might be cute to have one persona? character? on each side with their own accompanying art on the bag. What sources do you guys like for custom printed tote bags? I've gotten some totes off redbubble from artist and those seemed alright, just wondering about other places. (how are society6's?)

Oh this! Not any of the anons you were talking to but I got nostalgia'd hard seeing this.

>be young weeb in con full of also young teen weebs because summer
>meet another teen, dude was amazing
>was wearing Hot Topic pants and a black bondage looking vest? You know the one with all the straps and stuff
>long red flowing cape behind him
>They call me Button-Man
>dude's vest is absolutely covered in artist alley button badges of popular series of the day and random pre-2010 memes
>puts all our weeb bags covered with buttons to shame
>most majestic thing I'd seen that entire con

Hell, I'm not entirely sure when that trend of buying up tons of buttons for $0.50-1.00 each from artists JUST to cover your satchel/backpack died out but I know I miss it which is why I'm so glad I got into itabags.

Friend covered her satchel bag with homemade buttons for a series for a con last year and button bags must have reached nostalgia era because she'd get stopped regularly by people wanting to fan over her bag.

Another Tourabu anon here. If it as possible, get something that has a traditional Japanese looking print to it if you're willing to put in a little extra money. It would just look amazing. If not, try something that resembles a gold color or like >>8914340 said and try a shade of pink since some of your charms have pink parts to them.

That just made me feel way too old lol. From middle school to high school I'd do just as you mentioned and buy cheap buttons and cover my bags in them.

Or if I got free buttons that were lame, I'd paint or prime them and either paint an image or collage them.

I'm a real idiot. But you should make new pastebins anyway, I made them without an account so I don't believe they can be edited by me either.

Kudos to you for making the new guide, it's a lot more up to date and looks nice. I probably won't be following these threads anymore so it's nice to see someone take over handling it.
>>
>>8914496
This is truly art.
>>
>>8914598
I'm not sure why I never got into it. My friends did but I guess because I didn't own a satchel bag (which was like THE bag to get for buttons) I just had a handful of buttons I'd put on my convention badge straps.

I actually hope button bags make a comeback because despite not being the best thing to look at, it says a lot about a person by what buttons they have and makes it easier to talk to people.
>>
>>8914632
No worriers man. I'll go redo those pastebins then (or incorporate their info into the google doc to keep it all together, whichever works better).
Kudos to you for doing the original guide in the first place!

Longshot but I decided to scrap my Free! Nagisa bag in favor of just concentrating on my Rin one.

Would anyone be interested in the 14pcs of Nagisa merch I have + 4 misc Free! merch + 1 bonus freebie gift?

I'm asking $40 with free shipping ($2.22 per item) but I do have it open to Best Offer.

I don't suppose there's BayGulls here going to KrakenCon? My itabag panel was accepted and I only have two to show off along with the power point I'm building. It'd be cool to have an itabag meet before or after and have more real ones to show off.

Maybe the colour of his internal affairs outfit?

So happy to see more tourabu itabags, particularly Okitagumi! My AmiAmi order finally showed up so my tiny collection of Yams is now slightly larger.

Agreed with other anons, I think a dark red is the way to go. I'm sewing Yasuada's bag myself and will probably do Shinsengumi blue with the white edging - he's a little easier to color match though.
>>
kind of a general zakka-mart question....has anyone done a review of their tote-style bags and how the vinyl covers hold up over time?
>>
>>8915288
I got mine recently and while I haven't done extensive wear and tear tests, the vinyl is pretty thick, so I would imagine that it could be good for a long time, especially if you're careful.

excellent, thank you anon!! i was just worried it might be thin vinyl that might stretch out over time.

time to order one!

I save money and suck it up, mostly. I bought the servant komaeda keychain and it was like $30 usd but since he's my husbando I didn't care that much. I was about to pull the trigger and order the servant komaeda plush on y!a for like 5k yen but then I decided to wait and he appeared on manda for only 800 yen and I was so happy so yeah, you need to be patient and wait for the price to low a little.

which one, the one on the left or the right? my friend bought the whole set (all the characters) that the one on the right came in and i got the servant one from him for WAY less than $30usd. don't remember exactly how much but i wanna say around $5-$10.

Dumb question because I can't read moonrunes but do you need a shopping service to get Salus' bags?
I really like that they have smaller bags so I don't have to worry about filling up a Zakkamart tote when my husbando barely has any merch in the first place.
>>
I wish those Salus shoulder bags existed a month ago when I ordered my base bag... just gonna have to try to pretend I never saw them. [spoiler];_;[/nospoilersoncgl]

Thank you so much, anon! Jojo bag anon here, I pre-ordered them all. I recently just bought a lot of lolita items against my better judgement but I couldn't resist. I was just going to preorder Polnareff and Jotaro, but my boyfriend convinced me to just get them all. (And coming from someone who thinks my bag, although impressive, is an extreme waste of money?)

Trying to decide on a color for those WEGO bags is hard...
Also does the material get dirty easily?
>>
>>8917081
I wasn't sure when I found them, but since their site looks pretty similar to WEGO, I would assume that you do need an SS, but they might take foreign CCs so try it out and report back if you just need a forwarder or not! I'd love to know.
I used Zen Market for my Zakkamart bag so if you do need an SS, I'd recommend them. They were pretty nice and charge 300 yen per item.
