I just got into cosplay but my friend suggested that I do DIO and he would do The World. I've been trying to teach myself how to sew but I'm still not knowledgeable about different materials or how to style the wig. DIO is a pretty ambitious cosplay for a newbie, especially if you're not experienced with sewing. You might have more luck doing part 1 Dio, either this http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130724160834/jjba/images/2/2f/DioBrando_ASB.jpg or younger Dio.
That said, it's best to go to a fabric store to see the materials in person, and decide what kind of drape, weight, etc. you want. Go for something thicker in weight, avoid anything shiny or stretchy, and remember to press your seams and iron it when it's done.

Uniqso is probably the best atm for any cosplay contacts. They make quite a few sales through the year and there's plenty of cosplayers sponsored by them that have codes available for 10% off.
Pinkyparadise and HoneyColor were pretty well known as well but both have stopped accepting paypal payments and the former also had quite a few negative feedback cases more recently.

Spandex is the way to go anon.
I've made pant shoes a few times already for JoJo cosplay and the best way I've found to go about it is get a pair of boots that are fabric or faux suede type.
Make/sew boot covers and handsew them onto the boot near the sole using a curved needle, then sew pants to shoes.
It can be a real pain and I reccommend having a thimble and strong needle but it makes the cleanest result as opposed to say trying to glue it.

Metallic blue spandex is nice for Johnny. Unless you want something more matte.
Spandexworld has good spandex. Ebay isn't a bad place to get fabric either if you know what to look for, I've found some good stuff.
Just make sure whatever you get is 4-way stretch spandex.

So I'm going to a con with my second cosplay ever, is it a big deal if I cosplay as Jotaro with dark brown hair? I'm not sure if I want to use this spray I got (all wigs I could find looked like shit and I didn't have much time left) because the hair would stain my hat and potentially my coat black. i think an easy way to do the pant/shoe is order the leggings/pants a little long on the leg, then put a thin shoe where the ankles would go, then sew them inside.

Your best bet is to maybe get 2 pairs of those, one for the leggings and one just to make shoe covers. Make the shoe cover come up high enough like socks and wear the leggings over top if that make sense. So it will look like you have pant shoes but they'd still be seperate.

Why woudl buff = sexy? Look at the jojo girls themselves - a lot of them are attractive, but with a few exceptions none of them are portrayed as overly sexy (clothing wise). Unless you are cosplaying someone like Dio that fucks everything that movies, you should stay true to the character.

All of the hat parts are sewn. The top circle is sewn to the top of the hat and the backside is sewn together. Horns are folded in half and edges sewn together, stuffed then handstitched to hat.

You probably want something Polyester Nylon.
Supplex, maybe Taffeta. If you want something more along the lines of say a trench coat those are made out of either waterproof cotton gabardine drill, polysuede or waterproof poplin.

The outfit looks really well done! Some minor suggestions for the next time you wear this costume is to remember to take your phone out of your pocket for pictures, and practice with makeup to make sure your application is cleaner. I'd suggest using foundation to even out your skin and possibly a setting spray to make sure your eyebrows don't get smudged. (And I'm not a personally huge fan of drawing lines on your face, especially for Steel Ball Run characters but that's just my preference.) I really like your eye makeup though!

Not at all, although I generally cosplay alt outfits and just go with whatever colours it was drawn in, which does leave me with wigs in multiple colours for some characters. Only exception is if I know I won't suit a wig colour or I have a fabric I desperately want to use but it's not in the original colour scheme so I swap to another.
If you do want to palette swap a costume, consider how the colours will look with your skin tone as well as which ones you like best to help decide.

I think your costume is ace, anon. Gyro is definitely someone you can pull off well. The other anons already pointed out the (minor) flaws but to add to them you should really remember what JoJo is all about and...pose!
Gyro has a plethora of cool poses and while you deifnitely tried to emulate some you should really just go all out. Exaggerate! I think that's what makes most good JoJo costumes gureito. Looking forward to seeing actually good pictures of this!
