Ugh I couldn't find her pic but this one girl I saw in tumblr made her elsa bodice using a shit ton of large square beads (with i think a fancy sheen or somthng like mother of pearl?) of various sizes sewn all over it. Like a mosaic. It looked super awesome and Im using hers as inspiration while making mine

No one complains as long as it's light skin cosplaying light skin. Hiro cosplayer from earlier is a white person cosplaying an Asian character, but no one complains about that either.

Negative attention only really sparks when the cosplayer tries to put on an existing skin color that sharply contrasts their own.

Same here. The details are nice but the proportions are waaaay off because of the hem details she added. With that many flowers added to the bottom of the skirt, it should either hit right below knee or at the ground, not at the weird tea/midi-length. In both her pictures, it looks like someone cropped out her calves and awkwardly re-pasted her feet onto the bottom of the skirt.

this looks so good, the wig is the perfect colour.
love seeing aurora in her blue dress
>>
>>8908737
That's a photoshopped parks dress not a cosplayer. More evidence that aurora should just be in blue in the parks but kids would probably think she's Elsa.
>>
>>8908857
Or maybe it is a cosplayer, I can't actually tell on my phone. Regardless you're totally right about the wig being on point.

Both are disney face characters (aka people paid to be the character in a Disney park)

The Aurora actually isn't photoshop, in Paris's Disneyland she wears the blue dress too.

Why do all cosplayers give Judy long hair? It would make much more sense for the wig to be short, considering she's a short haired bunny in a public duty job, so at least she'd put her hair up and out of the way if she was a human.

Why would you have pigtails and bunny ears? The point of the pigtails is to replicate the ears in a human version. If you're going to do ears, you don't need something to replace the ears.

That was my first thought until I noticed the body (though anon-above may be right that she's leaning backwards and it just looks weird). The actual photoshop execution of placing the bird's feet on her hands is not bad, but it's a goddamn raptor with raptor talons on bare human skin.

I"m the falconer, not the other person being rude to you. For one, the animal has a band around it's leg--you wouldn't have a band around a taxidermy--real live animals are banded, which helps tell you it's a real animal (and part of a photoshop). Also...as someone who also does own a lot of taxidermy (I have a lot of weird hobbies I get it) I honestly don't think she could hold it like that for a picture? It would be top heavy as hell. A live animal would be holding himself up, while she would be having to hold the actual taxidermy up.

Additionally there is motion in the wings, another sign of a live animal. Which wouldn't be there in taxidermy.

1770s gowns could look tacky as hell. Big bows, flowers, and those "curtain ropes" are common themes.

I'm so sorry, I could be mistaken, but in that example I'm not seeing any big bows, fake flowers or "curtain ropes"? Lots of gathered fabrics, and one small bow at the chest.

Even in the famous Fragonard painting of Madame Pompadour, easily one of the most ostentatious dresses of the eighteenth century, wasn't quite that over that top. The Bows are placed at the chest to give the illusion that they're holding the bodice closed, and the fabric flowers are relatively small and aren't placed at random- they're placed at gathered ruffles to give the effect of water lillies floating on rippling water.
>>
(Oh and the bows at the sleeves- like the bows at the chest- they're also there almost playfully. No one would believe they're actually tying the sleeves closed, but it's a design element the designer chose to emphasize- instead of a small ribbon tying the sleeve, it's a big bow. It wasn't placed at random for the sheer sake of being there.

Eighteenth century fashion wasn't always as tacky as we've been lead to believe, and frankly it rarely was tacky at all! Also, remember, a lot of what people believe of eighteenth century fashion comes from illustrations in editorials that were making fun of the then current high fashion, playing up the silliness for humour. That drawing of Belle is about as historically researched and historically accurate as most other fanart based off eighteenth century fashion.)

I'd hazard a guess that the artist actually used that image in >>8953163 as a base given the zigzagging swags down the front and the lower ruffle edge. I'd give the faux roses a pass, they're an integral part of the character though I think I might have an extant example somewhere. Let me go through my files.
>>
>>8953183
I didn't say that specific example had all of those elements. I said that big bows, flowers, and the "curtain ropes" were common themes in 1770s gowns. The "curtain ropes" are present. Look at the bottom of the dress. They not as exaggerated in the fashion plate because of the different styles of drawing. The Belle drawing exaggerates the fabric lines whereas the fashion plates are softer.

You're also comparing a gown from the 1756 with the 1770s style. "18th century fashion" is not one big conglomerate. And I'm confused that you think that Madame Pompadour gown is one of the most ostentatious of the 18th century... compared to the mid-to-late 1770s, it's practically a chemise a la reine.

It is 100000% accurate? No. But your comments regarding the details are unfounded. They are all details present in 1770s gowns, particularly court gowns. Some things are slightly off: the center rose is larger than it would have been back then, and it's edging more to modern symmetry than the symmetry you normally see in 1770s gowns, but that's nothing to chirp about.

There are a lot of dresses that had various flowers on them, they just weren't quite as big. It would have been more accurate to have a cluster of three smaller roses in place of each big rose. Even so, I don't know why they think they're "placed at random"? They're pretty obviously placed symmetrically, zig zagging down the dress.
>>
>>8953208
Ok here we go. Silk flowers on a late 1700s gown.

Also I do agree with >>8953183 a bit on how things were exaggerated, but all the examples I'm gonna use now are ones that a girl in Belle's position (that is, a woman being courted by and eventually married to the prince) would have access to.

More small puff swags and sewn-in-place ruffled swags, plus yellow silk roses.
>>
>>8953222
Some lovely examples, and thank you for all the pictures!

But again, note, all design elements are interconnected. Note that the flowers are subtle, and generally lead to another design elements.

At no point do you have a bow glued to the middle of a fabric, leading to or attaching to nothing. Likewise with the giant fake rose attached to the giant fake bow with giant curtain ropes hanging off them.

Also, no "curtain ropes" save for a rather unusual dress on a painting that was meant to highlight Marie Antoniettes larger than life quality, and even then they're subtle.

My point: that drawing is no more founded in historical accuracy than most drawings based on eighteenth century fashion. You want to use it because you like the design? Absolutely. But don't say you're doing it because it's more historically accurate than most other "rococo Disney princess" designs on deviantart.
>>
>>8953222
Last post, I promise- note how the yellow roses attach to the swags which lead to the underskirt? Again, the name of the gamer is interconnecting your designs to create the illusion of a natural pattern

The dress is not unusual. Those so-called ropes occur in numerous 1770s French court gowns.

>Also, no "curtain ropes" save for a rather unusual dress on a painting that was meant to highlight Marie Antoniettes larger than life quality, and even then they're subtle.

So even though the gathered bunches appear on numerous fashion plates and paintings of the day, you're saying that because anon didn't post any surviving gowns with them, they didn't exist? I guess that means that there were no chemise a la reines with poofy sleeves, despite paintings and fashion plates to the contrary, because the handful of surviving chemise a la reines don't have them.

The Belle design is more historically accurate than most "rococo Disney princess" designs. For some reason, you seem to believe that if every single 18th century gown or fashion plate doesn't have all those details at the same time, it can't be accurate. It's already been pointed out that the details you have a problem with DO exist in 18th century gowns, and that some things are slightly exaggerated for sake of the character, like the roses. I mean, for goodness sake: the Belle dress is literally based on that black gown fashion plate, with some altered details, pose and all. Some slight exaggerations (larger and more realistic looking flowers, a larger bow in the center which it was said before, is more modern symmetry sensibility than 18th century) do not make it worth all your criticism, which at this point shows a lack of fundamental understanding of French court wear in the 1770s. All of these details can be found in 18th century court gowns.
