Have any of you used this mold? From the pictures I cant tell if it will make a full frame that I can put stickers/findings in or if it's just an outline.

Does anybody know where I can find chains like this video? I think Delish Beads got them but not in those colors?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yse1s_ZQ46A
>>
>>8881939
The listing shows a picture of it from the side, the central section looks more raised than the rest so it probably wouldn't make a fully backed frame
>>
I had my first doming disaster today, well technically last night. I had set up a bunch of pieces to dome, and pored the extra resin into a mold and left everything to cure with a cover.
I usually put this in a cabinet, because cats, but I was afraid I would knock the domes to much and they would leak over when I moved it from the counter.
For some reason (100% probably cats) most of my domes turned out alright...except the fucking mold tipped over, and leaked all under my favorite piece in the set and knocked that one a bit so it leaked all over its frame.
Thankfully I saw it when I checked it before going to sleep last night, and I was able to clean up most of the mess.. except looking at it today that the piece in question has loads of fingerprints from my frantic clean up effort last night...hopefully doing another layer of dome will hide them? we will see.
>>
>>8881838
How do you achieve the milky gradient effect like in these gems? Do you just carefully mix in a tiny amount of pigment so it's still sort of translucent?
>>
>>8882137
I've found chains like these on eBay but the listings tend to be buried in other stuff. The ball chains are easy to find, the plastic ones are possible to find but an absolute pain in the ass most of the time.
>>
>>8882623
Basically. What I do is wait for it to start to set, so it's really thick but still workable, and then use a stirring stick to place them in the mold. It takes a while and it's easy to mess up though.
>>
Does anyone know where to get these molds?

I got some off of Jstuffsale, including the bird and the horse but I'm in desperate need of the deer and rabbit now. I've tried looking on rakuten but I've gotten nothing but Wilton molds.
>>
>>8883093
Try Ali. I know I've seen the deer for sale there before.
>>
I recently got some silver bails online for some CCS pieces, but I only have gold chain. Will it look shitty if I use them together? I'd buy matching chain/bails but I'm broke as shit atm, if I can get away with using what I have it'd be great.
>>
>>8883209
imo yes.
>>
>>8883093
I'm pretty sure they're from daiso
>>
>>8883184

I've tried but somehow can't find a link. Search words are iffy.

>>8883216

Daiso sadly isn't in my area! I tried looking online but they don't seem to sell it there. Just generic silicone stuff.

Link would most definitely be appreciated.
>>
>>8883216
I been to Daiso and I can tell you those molds aren't from there.

>>8883093
I really want that pig mold, it looks cute.
>>
>>8883583
If you're talking about CA or another west coast Daiso we don't get all the best stuff they sell at Asian locations.
>>
>>8883596
That is true but the molds here >>8883093 aren't a Daiso brand but a brand named Kiyohara. They sell them in sets in Japan and in singles as well.
>>
>>8883600

>kiyohara

Thanks so much for telling me the brand! I managed to find it on rakuten now. Unfortunately the rabbit seems to be sold out everywhere.

>>
would silicone cak, ice cube, or candy molds work for resin?
>>
>>8883678
Yup. Just pay attention to the finish of the mold. If the inside of the mold is shinny so will your piece. If it is dull or matted so will your piece. You can still use non shinny molds but you'll have to dome or glaze the piece afterwards if you don't want a cloudy finish.
>>
>>8883700
thanks, good to know! there are a lot of cute food molds out there that could work for producing many products at once, and they seem cheaper than the ones marketed as resin craft molds.

silicone food molds have always worked for me but iirc plastic molds (e.g. candy molds) don't work and your piece will come out gel-like.

Hey guys, I tried using a plastic tube from a game to make resin, I put tape on the base but the charm never dried. Was it the material? Sorry, Im new in this resin stuff
>>
>>8883974

Thanks so much! I just sort of added stuff to my cart. I sort of went nuts but I don't know if I could delete any of the items.

And nope. I just double checked the sticky and it's not there. I don't have access to edit the doc but this would be a really good shop to have.
>>
>>8883974

Also that is an adorable ghost.
>>
>>8883979

If you're newish then the most likely culprit is that the mixing/ratio of activator and resin was off, cold/damp weather stopped it from curing or it just hasn't been left long enough. You never specified the amount of time it was left to cure.
>>
>>8883979
I've had resin that took almost a month to cure, and resin that cured in a day. Leave it for a while and check back every couple of days. If it's still super liquid after a week (not viscous or sticky, just watery)you've probably fucked up the proportions; if it's getting steadily dryer you'll just need to be patient. And if you used UV resin you might want to use a UV light.
>>
Does UV resin yellow in the sun more than regular resin?
>>
>>8884080
>>8884775

I left it to cure for three days after puring the resin into the tube. It was sticky, but most of the surface down the first layer was almost dry. I guess it was the mixing, Ill try again. Thanks guys!
>>
>>8884885
If you don't want to lose it, you could wait a week or so and see if it's fully cured, or dome it with UV resin. I hope it works out in the end.
>>
>>8883024
Do you mix the pigment in before you add it to the mold or directly in the mold (so it's not mixed in very much)?
>>
>>8885062
I mix it in before, I think mixing it in the mold might be better for a more homogenous look rather than a gradient.
>>
>>8883716

My friend bought a plastic mold from Daiso and used resin in it. Its some mold for baking, but isn't flexible at all really. Made out of hard plastic, picture related.

She said she was able to cure resin in it and so I bought them and tried it out, and honest to god it worked. I was quite surprised. She said to pop it out she put in in the freezer for a bit (once it was completely set up) and was able to get it out. I did the same thing and had no trouble.

>not unsafe, but something one would assume would absolutely not work and then randomly did.
>>
>>8882337

Yeah doming or glazing tends to hide a lot of faults.
Sometimes when I have some sort of imperfection on a piece I'll sand it down with sandpaper. Even though it completely scratches the crap out of the surface, once I glaze or use more resin its flawless.
>>
Late to the party but I found an Etsy with a bunch of cute molds (if you don't want to buy from Rakuten):

>>

Doming hides everything.
>>
>>8882252
Dang, thought so. Is there any way to modify it? I've seen some tutorials like this one
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWOmDDyYDo4
where people cover openings with packing tap, would that work? Or would I have to use that silicone stuff that people make molds out of?
>>
>>8885091
Those molds are adorable. Are they chocolate molds? Also, do you know what type of plastic they're made from? If it's PP I know it'll work with resin but I'm curious to see if other plastics work with it too.
>>
>>8883093
I've worked with these molds and keep running into issues with bubbles developing on the edges. I'm using uv resin amd using the heat method to pop bubbles yet I'm still getting pieces where the edge is not smooth on one of my layers because of a bubble. Any advice?

Was digging through my stuff and found a batch of stars and random bracelet I made as a test batch. I was still trying ot figure out what to sell in my etsy store and wanted to make these the "Fire and Ice" stars or something. I seem to have put some eye pins in some of them which I guess sin't a terrible idea but glue on bails probably look better in the long run.

This might be a stupid question, but I was looking at this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Easy-Cast-Clear-Casting-Enamel/dp/B003CHMZVU

Does anyone know if the Padico molds are any better or longer-lasting than the cheaper alternatives? I was thinking about getting a couple, but I don't want to spend that much unless it's worth it.
>>
>>8886599
I think the packing tape thing would definitely be worth a shot
>>
>>8889011
IMO silicone molds are way better. Padico molds are hard to use with regular resin. For some reason, they don't come out as quick as they should be. Also, they bend with use and they don't return to their original form.
>>
>>8890199
Ah, that's a shame. I mostly use UV ersin, so the first part isn't much of an issue, but it sucks that they don't last long, they're so expensive compared to other molds.

anyone have stories of trying to use non-UV resin in cool (60 degree F) weather? i know the risks of going below 70, and i also know that some people do it anyway, using heat boxes or space heaters, warming up the bottles/mold, etc. curious to see who has tried it.
>>
>>8898677
Can you share the risks that are involved with going below 70? I live in a cooler environment, usually use UV resin, but wanted to dabble a little with non-UV.
>>
>>8899075
two-part resin relies on a heat-activated chemical reaction. damp or cold conditions can fuck up the result, result in weird surfaces, fail to cure properly, etc. needs to be warm and dry for optimal results.

which sucks here in soggy New England, where it's cold half the year, only dry when it's below freezing, and humid the rest of the time, cool or warm.
>>
>>8898014
I really want the mushroom one.
>>
>>8899106
Yuck that is rough. Does it have an effect on UV resin as well?
>>
>>8899106
Oh fuck, I just mixed a batch. Well, guess I'll have to wait and see if it goes to shit or not... and seeing as I'm in England, I don't think the results will be all that great.
>>
>>8900587
if you have a space heater or a really warm lamp, consider moving your pieces to cure near them! i am not an expert but i heard this is a way to help the process. or if it is humid, some people seal their projects in a container.

i am a novice, but these are things i have considered trying based on what others have said they do.
>>
>>8900624
Thanks anon, I put them over the heater and it looks like it's curing ok.
>>
I can't find an archived site of the previous resin threads. For stickers or washi tape, what do you use for your backing when you dome the pieces?
>>
>>8901864
Here you go:
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/cgl/?task=search2&ghost=&search_text=&search_subject=resin&search_username=&search_tripcode=&search_email=&search_filename=&search_datefrom=&search_dateto=&search_media_hash=&search_op=all&search_del=dontcare&search_int=dontcare&search_ord=new&search_capcode=all&search_res=op

Personally, I seal both sides with mod podge before doming.
>>
>>8901864
Mod podge/other clear glue on both sides, and I dome the picture side first. If it ends up staining because I didn't coat it properly I paint the back with white acrylic paint, let that dry, and add another layer if I can still see the stains. Then I dome that side.
You could also stick the sticker/tape onto a piece of clear plastic, cut it out and seal the top. It's easier to handle that way and doesn't have as much chance of leaking, plus it's easier if you need to arrange several stickers for a piece and don't want to prod them into place with a toothpick or babysit them. You'll be able to see the edges of the plastic, but it's not nearly as noticeable as you'd think.
>>
>>8901966
>>8902978
Thanks anons! Appreciate the help.
>>
>>8902978
What do you use to cut the plastic, what kind of plastic is it?
>>
>>8903584
It's just clear, thickish plastic, usually packaging. I try not to use PP if I'm making a bigger piece with it so it'll stick better. I either cut it out with scissors or an exacto knife.
>>
In the pastel tutorial, the girl doesn't seal her stickers. Is that okay to do?
Will puffy stickers work with UV resin?

I already have a UV lamp and I live somewhere cold, so I'm looking into starting up with little projects.
>>
>>8904298
Sage for my double post, but will cheap glitter 'bleed' like we're warned it does in nail art? Thanks.
>>
>>8904301
It will. If you want to coat the back of a piece with glitter that won't be a problem though. Since you're working with UV resin it should be fine, because it'll cure before it bleeds everywhere. If you're worried about it bleeding, do a couple of thin layers of glitter instead of one thick layer.
If you're using non-paper stickers it's fine not to seal them, it's just so they don't stain.
UV resin works with all sorts of stickers but you might get more bubbles, make sure you really push the sticker down and use a lighter or heat gun to pop them.
Good luck with your projects, anon!

Thank you so much!

I wrote a really long question list, but I think I should be able to just ask this:

How far can I go with a sticker/piece blocking the UV and thus not curing the resin properly?

Can I put 3D items (eg inch or smaller figures) in UV resin, or is it impossible and will I need to look into two part resin when I get to that stage?

If so, can I cure UV resin through full 3D silicon moulds like pic related, glass jars/bottles and opaque moulds?

I'm so sorry for all the questions, but I can't find the answers on the supplier's sites and I think I must be googling the complete wrong things because I always end up with two part resin tutorials or advice. I also have no real idea how to search the archives apart from backtracking through old threads, so I'm so sorry if these questions are general repeats and are annoying.
>>
>>8904372
No worries!
I've made several pieces with stickers, wood shapes, beads and the like, and so far they've all cured fine. I haven't mixed the resin with opaque pigments or used it on black items, though, so I don't know what would happen in those cases.
You can put things in resin but the bubbles will be painful. Try laying the figure down in the mold and pouring a thin stream of resin in from the side, and work in layers so the bubbles don't become unmanageable.
I have no idea if you could cure the resin in those molds, I haven't used them myself, but you could try to put a drop in and see if it cures.
I'm not sure if the archives have the answers to these questions, I remember two-part resin being the most discussed kind.
>>
>>8904389
Thank you once again, anon! I may experiment with small, opaque items, since I quite like them. Either way, since I already have the lamp and have ideas that will definitely work with UV resin, I won't be wasting money if I decide to actually start making things in a little store or selling them at one of the local markets.

Yes, I'm worried about bubbles but also the curing problem because I've read about UV resin's issues with that. I think my friend probably has a spare heat gun. Bubbles really sound hellish to deal with, though.

I'll be waiting a while to get the hang of resin in general before working with those big moulds anyway. I really love them, though, and the idea of doing 3D jewelry with flowers and the likes inside. :)

Two-part is definitely more commonly talked about, I guess it's just the most versatile, though I am turned off by the thought of it yellowing and the wait time, coupled with my local weather and the fact that I have a big fish tank in my apartment and, therefore, have zero chance of reducing humidity inside..
>>
Has anyone used any of aliexpress' fondant moulds for resin? I'm not sure what they are made of, but I'm in love with some of the designs.
>>
>>8904429
You might want to use two-part resin for embedding large objects- it's thinner so you can pour it in with less chance of trapping air pockets around difficult bits, and the bubbles come out more easily too.
You don't need to reduce humidity by that much for the resin to dry. Put it in a cupboard or by/on top of a heater and it should set OK, it's what I do for mine when it's especially miserable and it works fine.
>>
>>8904445
Thanks for the tip anon!
I may try making the faces of jewelry with transparent UV resin and then backing with 2 part resin if I want it opaque and that proves to be a problem with UV, or if I want a full coverage sticker, as I imagine they are compatible to mix as long as one part is dry.

Looking forward to setting up my crafting area and starting to play around! I love these threads, I've lurked for the last few, there's some amazingly talented and knowledgeable people here. Keep doing you, gulls.

>was just banned for an apparent post in /v/ at the same time that my internet briefly went down.
That's vaguely concerning. And OT. Sorry.
>>
What sort of stuff do you guys use to ensure safety while working with resin? Some sources online suggest respirators, do you have any recommendations?
>>
>>8905284
What kind of resin are you working with? You don't need respirators for epoxy and UV (though you should obviously work with them in a well ventilated place) but polyester and polyurethane resins need a respirator.
You should also wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated area no matter what resin you're working with.
For sanding resin, sand underwater and wear a mask or respirator.

This basically. Polyester is the hardcore stuff that you dont want to really do in your house. You need a respirator and work area (like a garage or studio) for it. Epoxy is better in the case that you can do it within your home with reasonable ventilation.

Also just want to add that the reason its very important to protect yourself when sanding is the small particulars from the resin will get into your lungs and fuck your shit up. Its really serious so you need a good respirator and sanding underwater helps so the particulars dont float all up in the air.

Depending on the projects you have in mind, you wont even need to sand your pieces. I only sand mine down when I'm trying to repair a goof up on a piece like over spill.
>>
I'm working with resin for the first time and how do you clean up your cups and tools after you're done with it? It's really sticky and got all over my hands when I tried to clean up with detergent.
>>
>>8905811
Rubbing alcohol.
Also, try to use polypropylene cups and tools. I just wash old containers with a PP or 5 stamped in, it doesn't stick to resin so you just leave it to cure and it pops right out. For stirrers I just leave them to cure and reuse them when the resin's hard.
Also, please wear gloves when cleaning resin. You can get allergic reactions if it comes in contact with bare skin a few times.
>>
>>8905827
Thank you so much for the tips! I'll do this from now on!
>>
>>8905811
If you're doming pieces, get a doming tray. It'll catch any resin that spills. Also a silicon mat would be a good idea to use in future because you can just wait for the resin to cure and peel it off instead of hoping it won't go everywhere (and resin always goes everywhere, you just get better at controlling the fallout as you work with it).

I was doming pieces! I really appreciate the help, I'll get a silicon mat soon (I've just been using newspaper) and a doming tray too.
My first resin pieces finally finished curing and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out! I still have to dome the other side for them but I'd really like to make them into charms once I'm done with them.
>>
>>8907262
These are pretty good! But yeah, don't use newspaper. If you end up pushing the resin too far and don't clean it up in time you'll glue the piece to the newspaper and the newspaper to the table.
I'm really digging the owls and the planets, they'll make really cute charms.
>>
>>8907272
Thanks! I'm guessing I should take one of those metal loop things and clamp it on the piece to make it into a charm?
>>
>>8907262
Do you mind me asking how you do those? I mean, the owl and the planets, what do you use as a base for them?
>>
>>8907301
You could do that but you should really have punched a hole in the charm before to make it neater. You could use bails, which look best imo, and if you only have jump rings lay one flat on the back of the charm when you're doming the back with half of it sticking out. It'll become embedded and won't come out, then you can attach another jump ring to that and use it as a charm.
Bails are really the best ones to use though.

Your doming looks good anon! Especially the hamster sticker. I sometimes have trouble with things that have sharp indents (where it goes in btwn the scallops), but maybe it's because I over fill and that's generally where it leaks...
The iridescent glitter is really pretty too. Is it mixed into the resin or did you stick it on first and then dome over it?
Also, I agree with >>8907346 that bails look best. If you had bits sticking out then punching a hole and using a jump ring would be fine, like the loop at the top of the owl on the swing.

Anyway...contributing some of my recent stuff. I've got a con next weekend and I'm hoping the space stuff will be well received because I really like making them, but they use up quite a bit of resin and need multiple domings.
>>
>>8907472

>>
>>8907472

>>8907423
It's from daiso!
>>8907472
The hamster sticker is a little under-filled because I was running out of resin, so it didn't leak much! The glitter is mixed into the resin, because I wanted it to be as uniform as possible.
Your stuff is really pretty btw, I really love the pastel colors! Space motifs are my favourite.

Where are you guys finding your glitters?

I'm looking for the translucent stuff like in the OPic - Reflecting either green/blue or pink/purple. I can't find anything even vaguely close to it on AE or in person, though.
>>
>>8909578
I think you're looking for holographic glitter. It's not too hard to find and you can make your own, if you have the patience. If you want something finer for smaller pieces or details you could try white glitter, since it reflects similarly.
>>
>>8909805
I finally found it! It's all under 'holographic sequins' for some reason.

Look for nail art supplies or search for mylar flakes on ebay. They look like tiny amounts but a little goes a long way in resin. Some sellers even have different amounts to sell in their listings.

Late to the party but an article on Silicone vs Plastic moldes.

Any favorite brands of resin out there? I'm thinking of trying out ICE resin since I heard that it is easy to work with for n00bs (me). I'm wanting to make cabochons for jewerly projects. Does anyone agree/disagre with it?

What are brands of resin does /cgl/ like and why?
>>
>>8911255
I use Padico UV resin and I love it, but shit is that stuff expensive. I also use Pebeo Gedeo but I'm looking at other resin types atm, it takes so goddamn long to set. ICE resin is on my list to try out, I've heard good things about it too.

I also got Lisa Pavelka UV gloss or whatever it's called on an impulse, it arrived yesterday but I didn't read the reviews on the US site because I'm a moron and now I'm paranoid that it'll essentially melt if I use it for doming. It probably won't, but has anyone had any experience with it?

Alright, I've got a safety question that google didn't really satisfy me with the answers to. I've got my first pieces that I mixed and poured about 7 hours ago, and I need to keep them in my room overnight due to it being the only place that's safe from our cat getting into them. Will I still need to worry about fumes?

>>8912110
As someone who lurks both here and /diy/, I can definitely say this is the better board. /diy/ is geared more towards heavy stuff like woodworking, while handycrafts threads can go there, they don't get much traction.

Newbie question: if I do my resin in layers, will there be visible striations on the side of the casting?

I need to make a spherical resin gem (with a flat bit at the top for practicality's sake) for a cosplay. I used a large marble to make my mold and that part worked perfectly, but I had problems with bubbles on the sides and the resin not curing completely at the very bottom. It seemed like the bubbles migrated up to where the mold curved back inward for the upper half of the sphere, and then just stuck there on the mold wall instead of propogating out at the very top where it was open. The resin at the very bottom never seemed to cure quite right either, it was kinda tacky. I had the same problems with multiple attempts so I don't think the cure problem was my mixing.

Would doing it in layers help? I'm using red dye and getting the color to match between batches is a whole other can of worms, but I'll manage if that's what it takes to make a good cast.
>>
>>8913778
What kind of resin is it, anon?

I cure pretty huge batches of epoxy in my bedroom without issue - Although I do put loose tupperware containers over domed pieces to stay stray dust/hairs.
>>
>>8913778

Don't listen to >>8914224 . Fumes are definitely bad. Might not be instantly bad... actually nvm, its bad no matter how you turn it. If that anon can cure them in airtight containers, ok. But if fumes are getting out its definitely not good.

The more you expose yourself to epoxy fumes the higher a chance of a negative reaction to it. And once you get that, you can say goodbye to working with any kind of epoxy ever again.
>>
>>8913778
Yes. You might not have immediate problems but any exposure in a confined space is bad for you.

The red oval is to die for but I love the pink one, too.
>>
>>8914473
So beautiful! I really love them. I think I am waiting on the upper rectangular one myself.
>>
>>8914563
I tried once. It was a mess, but it more or less worked. I poured a layer of UV resin into the bottom of a rectangular mold, cured that, and built up thinnish layers on the sides. I added water mixed with rubbing alcohol and used more UV resin to attach a piece of plastic to the back.
It leaked like you wouldn't believe. I had to brush globs of resin over the bits that leaked the most and keep on shaking it to see where it leaked. By the time I was done I had a very bubbly, very lumpy rectangle with a few beads floating inside.
The biggest problem was the sides. It was so hard to build up thick even layers that it ended up being weirdly wavy and the plastic didn't stick right. If you had a mold made for it it'd be perfectly fine, and I think I know how to fix the other glaring issues I had, so if I have time over the weekend I'll try again and report back with pictures.
>>
>>8914150
Something I like to try and do is trickle the resin from some height. I don't recommend if you don't have a steady hand though. A thinner stream means less air can get into the resin as it pours
What you could also try is pour a little in and slush it around the sides first to coat it. It usually helps with prevention of air bubbles in stickers going in if you coat them first, maybe it could work here. You won't be able to guarantee the same shade otherwise
>>
>>8914601
Not that anon but I had no idea you didn't have to seal watercolor paper. Thanks anon.
>>
>>8914613
That's really amazing!

>>8915609
I could have read their question wrong though! I mean, the paper will still stain and become translucent because it's paper, but the colors themselves won't run.
>>
>>8915230
Oh, I hadn't thought of sloshing it around first. That makes sense, though! I try to let as many bubbles rise out before I pour it, but of course more get in.

I'm actually planning on building a motorized rig for slush-casting pieces so I can cast smaller hollow prop parts with it, I'm wondering if I could use it for this as well. The problem is that the opaque resin for the props only takes maybe an hour to cure, as opposed to two or three days for the clear stuff...I don't think I want to leave it running that long. Though it probably would only need rotated until the out surface had set and then I could put it aside to cure normally.

You might want to try inks.
>>
>>8917392
Inks? Like those calligraphy inks?
>>
>>8917401
You can get dyes/inks specifically for colouring resin.
Quick breakdown:

>Dyes/inks
These give consistent translucent colour. You can use a little for soft pastels like op, or a lot for bright saturated colours.

>Powers, like PearlEx.
Powders can be cloudy translucent or opaque depending on how much you use - they usually have a nice metallic or shimmery sheen in the texture.

>Glitter.
Glitter adds colour, texture and obviously 'glitteryness' by mixing it with your powder or ink in the resin before pouring.
You can use glitter to embellish opaque pieces, but you'd put that on top (not mix it through.)
>>
>>8917409
Can you use acrylics for coloring resin?
>>
>>8917415
Acrylic paint? I don't think so. It's too thick and viscous - it wouldn't mix with the resin properly.
>>
>>8917415
I know for sure you can't use acrylics for resin coloring since it can mess with the curing because acrylics are water based and resin hates water.

>>8917409
Ohhhh thanks so much anon! This breakdown is so easy to follow and learn!
>>
>>8917415
I've used acrylics with UV resin and the results were not the best. It cured, but it looked weirdly foamy and lumpy, and I had to dome it to make it look normal. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Even if you don't have inks or whatever you can use eyeshadow or pastels and get much better results.
>>
>>8916309
Hope this isn't a trade secret, but do you make your gradients with glitter or dye? I'm having a hard time telling from just the photos, but I've watched tutorials on how to create a glitter gradient in resin, and I'd like to try it for myself. Your pieces are always fantastic!

Something I learned tonight!

Waiting until your resin starts to heat and cure in the mixing cup before pouring will cause it to cure about twice as quickly!

..But add your pigment at the very beginning, because any amount of stirring once it's started to cure will FUCK IT UP.

>It's not like you made the molds yourself even.

Far left is the best imo. It's clean, balanced and cute.
Purple looks kinda messy- that might be the lighting, but the green gem looks out of place, the pink and purple clash, and the cat looks too small and off-centre. Again, the lighting doesn't help, it might look way better in person.
Teal frame is too plain, upper right pink looks kinda unbalanced and the flower cat one looks okay but plain.
What you really need to work on is the writing, it looks uneven and cramped. The 'Hello' on the purple one looks a bit like a collar, so it doesn't stick out as much, but the 'Lonely' is super wonky and sticks out like a sore thumb.
>>
>>8917835
Fairy and cross ones are really nice. The upper right one looks too faded because of the gold splotches, it would have looked better if you'd painted the gold underneath, added a layer of resin and added the pictures on top.
I think gold flakes would look really good with this style, especially for the cross one.

>>
>>8918395
You're welcome! Your stuff does have potential, I was worried after I'd posted it that I'd come off as too harsh.
>>
>>8918470
Different anon but I just bought a fondant mold that I think might need filing, what do you use to do that?

A few things I have done. I'll post my shop by request.

your stuff looks pretty cute, but I feel like you could benefit with some better photography?
Your pictures are not fuzzy or bad in any way, I just think you could take more flattering photos of your work. I really love the tea pot and cameo one, super cute!

>also this advice really only applies if these are the photos you are using for your store
>>
>>8918511
Can I ask a probably really obvious question? To make the chain parts with beads, is it just eye pins threaded with beads then attached to regular chain?
>>
>>8918511
Oh I'd like a link too!
>>
>>8918556
Yes

>>8918507
I use a nail file or fine grit sandpaper
>>
>>8918511
I'd like a link to your shop, your stuff looks very cute and bright.
Also, I agree with the other anon, a bit of tweaking in Photoshop would make a huge difference.
>>
>>8918548
I really wish I could. I have the absolute worst lighting in my place and my make-shift light box only helped slightly.

>>8918556
You also need the jumper ring.

I should probably ask a friend to show me better photo editing.
>>

There are a number of sellers who use that finish, its just petty to act like its a BIG secret. Most artists when you ask on how they got a certain finish don't go "I can't tell you because its 'trade secret desu'", resin charms are hardly a cutthroat business. Get real anon. A simple question was asked, dye or glitter? The anon asking wasn't after her whole process.
>>
>>8918934
If customers are saying that it's what sets her apart, then clearly it's not something that everyone knows. It's very reasonable for someone to keep their money-maker secret, no matter how small it is.

Personally I hate when people ask me for how I did my stuff, because all I did was a few Google searches and some Youtube videos, and a couple trials. I don't care to be a personal teacher for someone who doesn't want to put forth the research.
>>
>>8917415
you can for epoxy in VERY small amounts. Otherwise you'll find it wont cure properly and remain sticky. Basically it has water in it, and resin -hates- water with a vengeance.

I really REALLY love your cameo work.
>>
>>8919238
Thank you so much ^^ I actually need to get a new cameo mold because that one finally warped beyond repair.
>>
Welp, I've just ordered a shitload of resin materials from all over. Thanks for giving me the itch, anons.

>>8918631
Have you posted in previous threads? I seem to remember that name. Cute work, overall!

>>8918191
Thanks, love seeing others' creations.
>>
>>8918631
>I should probably ask a friend to show me better photo editing.
It's easy! If you have PS Elements, just go to Enhance and play around a bit until it looks clean and bright. If you want more control over how it looks just play around with the blur/sharpen and dodge/burn tools, and add filters or change the brightness.
>>
>>8919904
Different anon giving advice but also PS CS2 has an official free download. Its basic but gets the job done

>I still use it since I'm used to it
>>
>>8918934
Pretty sure you can get that finish with pastels. At least for a gradient background.
>>
>>8917444

Hope this helps
>>
>>8920124
I prefer using loose eyeshadow instead of pastels because I always seem to get little lumps in the resin no matter how well I mix it. I didn't know pastels could give you a transparent effect though.
>>
>>8920442
Eyeshadow gave me lumps. I find it best to just invest in resin dyes. You use less than what holds on to a toothpick for most things so they last near forever. Only the white I fly through.
>>
>>8918631
I really like the cameos too, have you considered making them in brooch form?
>>
>>8914473
They look so good! Can you share where you found the round cameo mold? I've been looking for one just like it.
>>
>>8920797
You know, I really should. I'm super heavy on necklaces, but I really need to branch out more.

>>8919342
I posted in an Indie thread once, but I don't frequent cgl much.
>>
>>8914613
This is so cool, but now I have been in Japanese resin hell for like 2 hours and can't stop watching.
>>
>>8912349
Yeah i'm gonna need those Karamatsu pins.

I've done some simple doming so far, but waiting on some stickers and molds before I start making the more interesting stuff. At least I've got my shop up now. I expect to be getting most of my chinese new year ordered stuff this week.

Just bought a bunch of molds and glitters to start making resin pieces. Can't wait to get everything in the mail!

I just bought Haenuli St Vitrus skirt, and I really dig your work. Do you have an etsy?
Could you please email me if you don't?
>>
>>8922181
I have the St. Vitus in skirt form too, and it's exactly why I made these! There is such a big lack of stained glass accessories. If you like, I can take pictures of them next to the print so you can choose something to balance/match a part of it you want to work with most. But for now, sleepytime.

Yep. I frequent both.

Can someone link me to where I can buy this exact mold? I have the rest from this set and for some reason this one is sold out everywhere I've looked. Or if someone would be willing to part with it? Thanks in advance!
>>
>>8920810
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I don't have the link but you should be able to find it pretty easily on aliexpress if you search for 'frame mold'
>>
>>8922563
I've found Padico molds on Amazon and eBay, if that helps.
>>
Does anyone have experience from buying molds from Taobao or Alixexpress? I want to find really interesting molds to use and was wondering if anyone had experiences with them.
>>
>>8923500
Taobao might be a bit pointless because the shipping+fees for such small items would be pretty steep. Unless you found a really interesting mold or are buying them as part of a bigger order it's not worth it imo.
Ali has a ton of molds, the only complaint most people have is that they're surprisingly tiny sometimes. You need to be careful with descriptions too, sometimes they're advertised as resin/clay/food molds but are only for clay/food. Look for silicon molds and you should be fine.
>>
>>8923682
I typically go for silicone because I want to use them for both resin and lotion/other things. I'll make sure to get decently sized ones.

I guess my last question would be a good place to look for sphere molds.
>>
>>8914563
oh golly, dont use water for these. it'll dry out
use baby oil instead!
>>
>>8923756
How can it dry out? Will it all just leak out at some point or what?
I don't mean to be rude, I'm genuinely curious.
>>
>>8922181
>>8922240
Just adjusted shipping to be more reasonable, and lowered the price a bit.
>>
>>8924024
water evaporates
>>
>>8924083
That's true. However, it's sealed in resin.
>>
This is kinda gross but I found a really cool dead fly and I'd like to preserve it in resin, anyone have any tips for doing that?
>>
>>8924121
I'm guessing put it in a container with some of those preserving packets you get in bags and stuff to get the moisture out of it first
>>
>>8923756
>>8924024

In those pieces, most of them use sodium silicate, not water.
>>
Does anyone know where I can get this mold?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zawmJzypmBg
There are some listings via Storenvy and Etsy but they are overpriced and they don't ship to my country. I think they are buying them in Aliexpress but I can't find the source.
>>
>>8925112
Try going on Taobao and using the image search function. Won't help for Ali but at least you'll have the source if you're ever doing a Taobao order.
>>
>>8925112
Oh god I remember the drama that surrounded this mold.
>>
>>8925181
Drama for a mold like in >>8925112? Deets anon?
>>
>>8925181
There's drama over a mold? What
>>
>>8925181
>>8925349
>>8925386
Not that anon but I think people bullied the girl of the video because she was selling the exact same mold as Crafterzdelight, who is a well-known resin crafter. I think people assumed CD made the mold itself...
>>
>>8924121
Do as >>8924122 said and get all the moisture out. Work in layers so you don't get a fuckton of bubbles.
>>
>>8925416
Didn't CD say at some point that she didn't sell the molds she made herself?
>>
>>8925112
Please share if you manage to find it, I've had a trawl through taobao but no luck

Has collecting molds, stickers, etc become a bit of an obsession for anyone else?
>>
>>8926016
Collecting stickers has become even more of an obsession for me- at least my huge horde has a purpose now, lol. I only have a couple of molds but I'm working on that. Resin is weirdly addictive.
