I think it could be rather interesting to have a Black Butler cosplay thread.
There are a lot, A LOT of them out there. Most of them horrible, a lot of them too animu deshu, and lastly the rest, which are nice and accurate. And human like.
But they are difficult as fuck to find tho.
Any of you found a decent, canon-like one? Any of you cosplayed one and thinks it deserves a try? Preferences in makeup, or cosplay advice? Maybe it could go here.

The problem is that not everybody likes extreme makeup, and not everybody is able to pull it off either.
I guess that's why it's difficult to agree on these cosplays, unless they are shit and everybody knows it.

Anybody else wicked excited about the Campania Arc movie that will be coming out next year? I wonder if it'll revive the old craziness of the fandom.
Hell yeah! Campania is one of the best arcs. Or at least, one of the most dynamic/full of characters.
And the fandom needs to wake up, and I am sure it will eventually.

I think another part of the trouble of cosplaying Sebastian is the androgynous look to him in certain aspects, when people try to translate his look to real life they either give him super thin and feminine eyebrows and too much liquid liner and lashes, and then there are those people that fill in their brows with pure black which looks really bad too. Any really impressive Ciel and Sebastian combos to share?

On some people doing the whole draw on look looks really good. But one needs to have some great makeup skills to not fuck that up and make it look shaky and flaky.
Personally I prefer the more natural looking make-up, since it really gives a drop of realness to the character.

I'm guessing that wig isn't as saturated of a blue as it is in the picture, there's a lot of post work done on this especially with the over all cooler blue tone. I think it's better than the shitty gray wigs everywhere that I personally never thought resembled his hair color. If anything his hair is a dark blue green in the early animation.

Yeah, the flower skirt was a big struggle. I tried 3 or 4 different methods to get it to poof out more, because those flowers are damn heavy. But thank you! I'm very proud of the headpiece. It's heavy but looks nice and stays on well with wig clips.

Prob Soma and Agni because of their skin color. Not saying people of color arent skilled cosplayers, but I imagine its mainly white fujos that watch/read this.

Just go for it anon. The good thing about Soma and Agni is that they're almost purely fabric costumes, and for most people sewing or piecing together bought clothing is much easier than armor and props. Look up tutorials for similar costumes (for Soma's big bow, for example, plenty of characters have big bows) and pay attention to your references. You'll learn a lot along the way and by the end you'll be a better cosplayer for it.

My best advice is just to read everything you can. Any tutorial or costume-making experience you see on here, or tumblr or facebook or whatever. Read it. Anything you think might be even remotely relevant to making your costume, like fabric choice, wig styling, painting shoes. Read it. Watch videos of old ladies sewing on youtube if youre not familiar with sewing techniques, hand or machine. You wont use all of the knowledge that you gather in your costume but you'll gain something from everything you read.
What Im saying is if you really want to learn something you have to jump in with both feet. I can't really give you any other tips without specifics because if you told 5 different people to make a Soma cosplay each would probably take a different path of making it. Just dont be afraid to make mistakes and completely fuck shit up and do it again. That's how you learn.
I have a friend that is going on her 4th version of a costume, and she's still just as excited as the first time, and she's always getting better. That's what you have to aim for, imo.

you can do it, anon! do a lot of research and don't be afraid to make a lot of mistakes along the way there. sewing my first ciel cosplay i tried out so many different techniques i'd just picked up and after a few tries they worked.
when it comes down to sewing it, a nice mock-up in less expensive/test fabric is a great way to play around with fittings and seams and patterns.
collect reference images and anything that's a visual aid too. i take notes and doodle and sketch things out before i even go near fabric.
