I mean also, let's get real here, v--kei has often put forward a sexy (often darkly sexy) image and played with the themes and visuals associated with sexual taboos (fetish imagery, bdsm etc). Not all v-kei artists of course but you only need to flick through some old issues of shoxx or fool's mate to see how much the visuals focus on sexiness and sensuality. Not to mention the vast majority of v-kei fans in Japan and abroad are swooning teenagers and young women, that's generally the target audience too.
I'm not completely a drooling letch though, I mean, certain groups like kagrra (rip isshi) I absolutely adored for their beautiful layered sounds and unique combining of rock with classical Japanese aesthetics. Miyako is a stunning album in it's own right, the visual theatre that accompanies the music just adds another layer to the experience.

I loved their older sound when they had a kinda prog meets new wave thing going on. Down the line though, I have to admit they started to sound a lot more like generic bland Ryan Adams style rock with a bunch of cheese ballads thrown in to me. I generally don't talk v-kei with people as I know I'll end up being insulting, honestly on the whole it's not my cup of tea sound-wise but the stuff I do like I truly love and never tire of. hide for instance is a fucking legend, truly but then to me he never really had that arguably tedious, typical 'heavy vibrato sad vampire' sound that I tend to associate with v-kei.

I am very content with this since I usually only go for the bands nowadays. It's a good thing I already won a pile of signed MeteoroiD stuff from TnT's drawing so now I only have to wait in one chaotic mess of what their volunteers call a line.

I love the shit out of Buck-Tick. I've heard all their stuff, I have most if it in my collection, one of my all time favorite bands.

So Matenrou Opera has been announced as guests of honor at Anime North. I was going to be in Japan during May and early June, but I might come home a week early and make the 4 hour trek from MI to Toronto.
Does anyone know if the last date on their website, 5/4 at Roppongi is actually their Elements tour finale? Usually they list tour finales, but there are no shows listed after this date. I've played guitar for 16 years and I've become a pretty successful ghost writer for metal bands in Japan. For about 10 of those years Hizaki and then Teru were pretty huge inspirations of mine. Anzi and You have been way up there for years now too. I just think it would be really cool to convey that to them.
Hopefully it doesn't end up like the time I met Hizaki where I was shaking so bad he asked me if I was feeling okay. I'm not a crazy bangya or anything, just really really happy whenever I hear their music. Thanks gulls! You gave me the courage to not turn tail if I see them around.

I like being skinny, but I have been rejected a couple of times for being 'too skinny' already, and that just awakened some self steem issues I thought I had already buried in the past. If it helps any, when I did interviews with bands I would count back from 3 in my head. Once I hit zero I would just start talking and asking questions. Once you start talking its harder to stop. And as time goes on it feels more natural.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. Ayami Kojima's artwork is just too perfect a source of inspiration. It's in turn inspired my own fashion taste a lot, as a wearer of Aristocrat fashion. I love Alice and the Pirates' old vampire collar coats, as I call them.
The way I came across VK was while I was browing the old Castlevania Dungeon website there was the page on things Castlevania had inspired (or seemed to have inspired), there was a mention of Malice Mizer, and Gackt dressing like Alucard, together with a MM sharing a name of a song with SotN's Japanese name - Gekka no Yasoukyoku, whose video even includes a Death figure.
