No lenses yet because I'm trying to figure out if they should be orange-tinted to suit the ref image for the particular outfit I'm making, or clear as per his default look. I feel like amber would contrast nicely with all the blue gemstones on the coat.

Buster Rifle for my Gundam Wing Zero Custom is nearly complete. Needs a few more details, paint, and adding the electronics for the lights in the scope. The two halves are magnetic so it can be split into the two separate rifles.

Some progress on my Rainy Devil costume I'm making. Waiting on some ink dyes so I got to work on the light-up eyes.

Just simply a Neopixel for each eye and put inside some 3D printed holders to diffuse the light. Might move them a little closer together though, what do you think?

I think you should move them ~1cm closer, it looks like they ought to be 3 eye-widths apart.
What are you going to do for the rest of the face, wear a balaclava over the glasses?

I'm the fake leather anon from the last thread. I finished my Cloud harness!
>>
>>8870769
I still can't get over how good the texture/painting on that foam is. Did you end up reinforcing it with any kind of backing so it stands up to wear?
>>
>>8870769

Holy balls anon, that looks like real leather, not fake one.
>>
>>8870802
The foam's really good quality and thick so I'm only worried about the thinner stuff I used on the loops. Unfortunately, I can't think of a way I can reinforce those without ruining the look.

I made this quick collage of the method I used.
>>
>>8870769
>>8871716
Wow, that's incredible!

My project is coming along rather nicely, fun sized candy bar for scale.
>>
>>8871716
Is that just plain acrylic you're using to paint that? It looks seriously amazing! Good job!
>>
>>8871883
It's actually water-mixable oil paint and fast-dry medium. Oil paint has a greasier, finer texture - acrylic is more plasticky and doesn't work its way into the pores the same way.
>>
>>8871716
what material is that youre painting on? is it just foam?
>>
>>8872353
Yeah, it's just 3mm craft foam, I got it off amazon. The loops are normal craft foam, the belts at the back are vinyl kilt straps and the big bolt is a curtain ring with an inner made out of generic Model Magic-type clay. I can link to any product I used, but I'm in the UK so I don't know how useful it will be.
>>
>>8872388
Oh, never mind, I may as well:
Foam: http://www.littlecraftybugs.co.uk/ runs an exclusive line of thick, dense, HQ craft foam.
Curtain ring: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171807321078 these
Texture stamp:
FIMO Texture Sheets in Leather/Croco. You can get it from various places. Expensive, but I got mine on sale for £3.
Paint:
Georgian Water-miscible Oil Paint in Burned Umber + Georgian Water-miscible Oil Paint Fast Drying Medium. It's important to use the same brand medium with WMO paint because different companies use different formulas.

Also, make sure to have a big bag of wet wipes with you if you're working with oil paint. If you've only ever used acrylic (I had) you will not believe how smeary and invasive it is. It will coat everything in your house, even if you're used to being able to paint in acrylic without getting a drop on anything else.
>>
>>8872457
did you prep the foam in anything before painting on it?
also, i was just about to ask you about that texture but glad i waited a bit.
>>
>>8872467
No, I didn't. The paint adheres to the foam well, but the more fast-dry medium you use, the worse it gets. Unfortunately, if you skip on the medium, you have to wait a week for it to dry (I am not exaggerating).

I forgot to mention - after painting and drying, I sealed it with clear quick shoe polish, then distressed it by brushing it with a pale foundation powder to make it look dusty. The shoe polish makes it water-resistant.
>>
>>8872492
thanks for the tips. i dont have any cosplay that requires leather but i might just try this out just for the fun of it.
>>
>>8872457
Thank you for this. A friend of mine just linked your post to me and it's everything I was looking for.
>>
>>8872570
No problem, glad you find it helpful.

A thing I did that I didn't include in that graphic is that I sanded the edge of the foam. If you look at real leather, the edges have a suede, 'hairy' sort of effect, and it reproduces that.
>>

180 gemstones polished and backed, 21 to go, fuck I'm so tired of this. Took a break to redo the shitty-hammered-texture flask and finish the dagger. Waiting for a piece of blue silk to arrive so I can embellish the center of the flask and make the tassels.

>>8872457
ILU anon. Just ordered one of those texture sheets from eBay, I'm going to try this for the leather accessories on my costume. Do you have a handle or FB page or something you can be credited at?
>>
>>8874558
How are you going to account for all of the different battery chemistry/voltages/capacities?
>>
>>8874572
I'm gonna hard code many common batteries into it, but it'll also allow users to insert their own custom variables as well. So some math may be required when using it.
>>
>>8874558
>>8874572
Neato, are you just going to be looking at cell voltage or do something more fancy like coulomb counting?
>>
>>8874682
Nah, nothing that fancy. Just load voltage and current with an estimation of percent and time remaining. It's not gonna be 100% accurate but it'll give you a good idea if you need to shut your power off to save your electronics for a photoshoot or something.

Every 20% of battery life used, it vibrates. 1 vibrate means 20% used, 2 vibrations means 40% used, and at 2% left, you hear a nice long buzzer letting you know you're going to need to replace your batteries or you're SOL.

It's gonna have an OLED screen as well as the Bluetooth capabilities.

>>8879034
Pink insulation foam cut and rasped to shape, paper mache to seal and reinforce the foam, paperclay and epoxy clay for larger raised details, puff paint for fine details, gesso for uniform texture. Beads are super sculpey.
>>
>>8874558
did you wire that to a goddamn game- gear?
beautiful.
>>
>>8879111
I needed something I could turn on and off, as well ass something which I could replace a single battery from and drained them fast. The Game Gear was an awesome perfect fit for this project.

Work has begun on a 2nd module, a cheaper version. This one should cost about $40 less to make,

Nope! We're painting it when it's on my body and it shrinks a little when the suit is off but it stretches really well! It doesn't crack at all. Sometimes it looks patchy so I would just suggest making sure you have good coverage.

Two and a half hours of cleaning my room, and you can finally see the floor! ...In a sort of narrow pathway directly to my bed. But it's a start, right? Hopefully I will continue this tomorrow after work. It's been months since I last cleaned and I think the majority of my clothes ended up on my floor instead of the closet/dresser. Only after this can I start to bring out my sewing stuff.

Keep it up anon. My room is thankfully almost done. I've got a basket of clothing and a box with some odds and ends. After that, I need to rearrange the blankets and containers under my bed.

In the cosplay WIP stuff, I set aside what I was working on to do the room, when that's done I can get back to working on white day Nozomi. I picked up the gold buttons yesterday and I need to alter the bodice lining to fit better.

Gundam Wing Zero Custom progress continues to chug along. The smaller sub-wings are ready for plastidip and weathering. Once that's done they can be mounted. Still need to make the much larger main wings but I'm on hold for 2 days while I wait for more adhesive to arrive in the mail.

Pretty lightweight but somewhat worried about these catching the wind and bowling me over. Will have to be careful.
>>
>>8890166
I'd definitely be very careful with the angling of your wings to keep them from working *too* well. They look fantastic keep it up. I'd also suggest trying to stay indoors more often to mitigate that risk as well.
>>
>>8890166
Not sure how feasible this is but are you able to make a quick release system? It would really, really suck if a gust did knock you over, especially since you'll be on stilts. Better to sacrifice the wings than the entire suit, IMO.

The toy I'm building off of is pretty tiny so albacore roughly the correct shape I needed to start with.
Do far I cut off parts if the gun I don't need, used a pvc pipe to lengthen the barrel and started scratch building the butt stock from scrap plastic.

Been working on a Papa Emeritus III costume. He's the lead singer of the band Ghost. Patch has not been attached yet, will be Monday or Tuesday. Here's a really good picture of it. The sleeves has a sewn on reinforced portion on the elbows. The collar and lining is a light brown. There are pockets located on the sides instead of a line. The crisscrossing belts are brown. The portion of the bottom of the coat is cut and peeled back instead of tapering. And it's dirty as shit and worn. The hat however is perfect.
>>
>>8898120
That's the men's version, I'm making the females. I do have the elbow pads; they were added on after the photo was taken. My belts arent brown, so it looks like if they're also brown on the female model that I will have to change them!
As for distressing, I plan to take sandpaper to the bottom, the creases for the elbows, and places that receive a lot of friction as well as rolling around in a puddle of mud and dirt once I'm fully satisfied with the outfit.

Well that would make sense wouldn't it? Didn't honestly think there was much of a difference. The sleeves look to be sewn like a bracer toward the forearm and the shoulder mantle covers most of the chest and isn't symmetrical. Other than that, dirty and sand the shit out of it.

Decided to take a break from mecha and make something a bit more down to earth (and I can actually walk around in and enjoy the con).

Just started making the helmet for the classic Zeon pilot suit from Mobile Suit Gundam. I made a ribbed structure, put in spacers to conserve expanding foam, and then actually sprayed the expanding foam.
The idea is to shave the foam down into a helmet shape (conformed to the ribs), seal it with paper mache, smooth it out with plaster, sand it, and finally give it multiple, generous layers of fiberglass resin. After the helmet is sturdy enough, I'll rip out everything from inside.
I'll give the foam about a week to fully cure and dry before I start shaping it.

Tomorrow I should be getting an cheap green flightsuit in the mail for the actual suit part. The foam work around the limbs and neck should be relatively easy.

New BB Anon here. Distressing the black vinyl will help loads! Right now you're looking put together and well made but dangerously Hot Topic. I would suggest belt buckles that look more period appropriate. That's a quick change. For a more time consuming change, consider top stitching with your longest stitch length and a heavy khaki jean thread to really replicate the leather worked top stitching you see on the hunters' coats. That's really gonna help sell your outfit as LEATHER and not vinyl. Good luck! Hope that makes sense?
>>
>>8881670
Anon i don't know if you're still here, but what material did your for the visor.
>>
>>8904996
Fear not, I still lurk, and I bought the helmet as a blank and it came with the visor which I believe was cast in a clear poly-resin which I then dyed with Idye.

>>
>>8905280
This is really messy.
>>
>>8905653
Agreed. It looks like you were using scissors instead of a sharp exacto knife or razorblade to cut the foam. Sand the edges down and fill the seams with caulk so everything is flush, and remake the... exhaust vents? the rounded bits at the top... so the horizontals fit flush.
>>
It looks better in person, my cameras pretty bad but where exactly should I fill with caulk? The place where the vents is actually hollow masking the battery packs so that seam is the velcro.
>>
>>8905659
Thats also the reason why I cant bring the vents up, because it would interfer with the velcro construction.
>>
>>8905776
All the edges of the foam are very rough. Your paint job also sucks, sorry. The visible brush marks are bad and you can't appear to paint a straight line.

I can't wait to see it when you're done!

I dedicate my progress pic to you, Ukraine. Since you're probably one of the few people here who would appreciate it. I'm currently working on Athena's pirate outfit from Turnabout Reclaimed. I've finally finished hand sewing the blue trim to the skirt, so now I'm just working on pleating the skirt.

I also redeemed some tickets at Scandia on a orca squirt gun, which I'm turning into Orla and will carry around with my costume (along with the sword) because I'm a huge dork like that. It's not canon, but it's such a cartoony goofy series that it doesn't really matter to me. I need to fix one of the sides on the hat since the glue didn't stay, and I need to add the skull and glue te hat to the actual squirt gun (it's just balancing on there for the sake of the picture).

You can either place it on a vibrating surface or use a source of heat to burst the bubbles once they come to the surface.

ANNND here are also the thighs I finished last night. Not really finished. I still need to do some sanding to get my legs to move more than 20 degrees or so. If I can get to around 30 maybe 40 I'd be happy.

I'm not Ukraine and I appreciate this! That mini-Orla is absolutely adorable!!
>>

Do you have a page where you post your work? You're doing some crazy amazing stuff, anon and I'd like to see the end result.
>>
>>8925317
This looks awesome!

How do you get your pvc so perfectly rounded? Mine always gets fucked up and buckles when I bend it.
>>
>>8926161
Good job! What did you use in materials? It looks professional as heck

Well its a kit! I wish I could say I was that good at sculpting an molding. But everything was cut out, trimmed and attached by me. For reference this is basically what it looked like when I got it.

Leaving for con tomorrow and I'm still working on this. I just need to attach everything to the Blitty, it's just held on with pins atm. His feet are done too, just didn't put them in the pic.
(Thanks to help thread anon for advice)
>>
>>8926369
Don't understand how that can be wip if it's already made for you bahaha
>>
>>8926464
Because any mistake in the cutting, trimming or assembly and you have completely ruined the piece.

Also, not really made, you get pieces that you have to assemble and fit to you fairly specifically.

Got my circle lenses in for Schrödinger.

Barbie super pinks or something from Uniqso. Would not recommend. First pair I've bought, I'm giving up on them looking right in person but is there any advice for how to make them pinker in photos without turning up in a cringe thread?
>>
>>8926577
sorry anon, altering contacts is really dangerous and could damage your eyes, so theres pretty much no way to amend that. just shop your pics
>>
>>8879789
Hey Anon! Can I use this picture so I can order fabrics to my Ladybug costume? It's looks so nice.
>>
>>8926598
Figured as much, but you folks always seem to have some homebrew tek for modding anything. Thanks nonny.
>>
>>8926230
Aww, thanks! I post stuff on fb.com/IrohaCosplay

>>8926265
It seems to be a matter of heating the entire piece until it's squishy, so the excess is distributed across the entire inner curve. The pieces I did with a heatgun didn't heat evenly and came out creased, the pieces done with boiling water curved evenly. Also came out nicer when I bent it around a form, seems to have pressed the wrinkles out.

Please please post finished pics of my husbando
>>
>>8926265
If you're bending PVC (or any pipe, for that matter) the easiest way to prevent it from buckling is to fill it with sand. Cap one end (duct tape works), pour sand in the other until it's full, tamp it down until it's compressed pretty solidly, then top it off and seal the second end. When you heat and bend it, the sand prevents it from kinking, and you can just dump it out and reuse it when you're done.

I'm actually in the middle of ordering swatches and perfecting the print. I wrote a couple posts about it on tumblr. I'm going to make the designs available on Spoonflower once I finish, so you can order directly from there.

The file I posted in this thread didn't look how I wanted when printed and the size doesn't tile correctly for the sport lycra option. How soon do you need to order?
>>
>>8926638
Yeah. You're better off either ordering new contacts, or just photoshopping them a bit pinker. You could tint them a little in photos without making it really obvious or weird looking.

It's fujoshi land from here on out. The waifufags jumped ship because the CG art for girls have been consistently worse than the CG art for guys.
>>
>>8927270
Are you gonna finish that collar with a lining or something? The raw edge on the inside looks messy as is plus it looks like you didn't pin it straight on/your thread tension wasn't exactly right, so the trim is rippling.

Guy here, my no death Lunatic files on Awakening and every iteration of Fates says "Hello". The only trash FE to have come out in recent memory was Shadow Dragon, everything else is still very, very playable.

I plan to make Ladybug at the end of the summer, so I don't need it right now. What's your tumblr? I could follow you more easily at that way.

You just replied like every defensive woman who does game when told "lol girls don't game". How does it feel to be on the other side of the fence?

ok cool. I got a shipping confirmation from Spoonflower for what I'm pretty sure will be my final swatch, so it should be good in the coming week.

my Tumblr is apfel-birne.

Did a lot more than I thought I was going to get to today. Made skirt, redid the front white part, made majority of the cape-gotta do the trim next time-, and made some gloves.

I'm leaving the red obi/butt pad and make the stockings for last. Not sure if I should make it so alter a pair of thigh highs. Im feeling hesitant on my skills to making them
>>
Shitty instagram filter is shitty. Made some progress on my Misstiched Dress from Alice Madness Returns. Wig isn't cut yet, and I still need to install a zipper in the dress. Pretty happy with it so far though.

If I may ask, how did you do that gradient dyeing so well?
I'm looking to do something similar with pink.
>>
>>8907798
Hey Anon, May I ask if you used stretch fabric for the skirt? I'm working on Linkle too atm and I could only find the right colour fabric in cotton and i haven't got enough time to buy more ;u;

Start with white and keep dipping it over and over again in the dye. Only dip to the top of the gradient once or twice (if that makes sense). I also would pour really hot water on the top after a dip to help dissipate the dye.
>>
>>8930633
I used an orange suede for my skirt that had a small amount of stretch to it. I found it on etsy.

I had also considered getting upholstery suede from Joann fabrics in the color rust. I modified a quarter circle skirt pattern to make my skirt. Hope you are able to get it done in time!

>>
>>8928993
I'm sorry but, are you a new sewer? All those edges just look so rough and improper.
>>
>>8930831
Thanks a bunch anon!
I kind of understand what you mean, are you trying to say to increase dipping as you work your way down the fabric?
>>
>>8930952
Sakura from Fire Emblem

>>8930958
Sort of? The only thing im morw familiar with is making a skirt and it's my second time making a cape. Everything else I haven't made before. I you're talking about the cape, it's only pinned on
>>
>>8931060
If I may also ask, what brand of dye do you reccomend using?
>>
Still have to make the upper part and work on the wig, but I'm sewing Victoria F. Stein's costume. Hope to look small enough!
>>
>>8930538

Oh god yes, i love that character. And the designs from the game were amazing.
