Nah, It's not amazing. It's alright, kinda basic but when I've been posted here I've heard mostly good things. I don't get a lot of notes, and I'm still learning (especially when it comes to photoshoots), I'm not going to selfpost during listtimes because if I'm going to be on the list it's because someone else thought I was good enough to recommend. Just means I have to work harder on making stuff people think is worthy to reblog.
Also, like I said, even if I think my quality's good, most folks just aren't super interested in my arsenal of characters.
With that said, you can't deny that being acquainted with other BNFs certainly helps you getting noticed around here.

I decided my only way to "git gud" was to stop fucking trying to do trolls. I tried to do Terezi and my first attempt was ultimately my last. After that one day I swore never to paint myself gray again. My horns broke the day before so I never even got decent pictures, though nothing would've saved that disaster.
I finally put together a decent HS cosplay in the form of Intermission Jane but even then I still only wore her to 2 cons and at that point my interest in the comic already started to die.

This is extremely subjective. What are you looking for? Fancy designs that aren't overworked? An AU that makes sense? There's plenty of AUs that are easy on the eyes but it depends on what you're looking for.
Also most militarystuck cosplay looks the same and is generally well done (with the exception of how people glue the horns to the hats all the time), so I don't know what you're talking about.

Not putting Pasteleys as like half of the characters was a real challenge, I'm telling you.
Decided to go with only the canon talksprite versions, Cronus and Mituna excluded because it seems like no Cronus ever want to bother with painting their arms.
Also, premiering good, full body shots. I've seen some neato Latula selfies but these two are the only full body shots I actually like that I can think of. I had a really hard time finding Latula, actually. Surprisingly hard. I'm honestly not that fond of either of the ones I picked but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I still think she's the most cohesive and clean of the ones I've found. I was considering Mostflogged, but the only thing that push that one above average is that she suit the character, and maybe the horns. People have it drilled into their heads that asking any questions about a service animal can at best be a really unpleasant conversation and at worst get you fired/sued. If you the employee don't care much it's easier to turn a blind eye.
There is so much misconception about service animal vs "support" animal, that most people mix up the two, including support animal owners. I know someone with an untrained emotional support animal who genuinely thinks she has the right to take her pet dog everywhere and get preferential treatment because of it. It's not malicious or attention-sealing, she just genuinely thinks she is entitled to all the rights that support dogs have. The sad thing is that she usually gets them.

Just finished my Dirk, more or less. No gloves in these because it was mostly a make up/wig test. I've some things to tweak (also I need to find a undershirt because the WP shirt is super thin) but it's nice having a non-grey cosplay.

Thanks! There's still some tweaks I want to do to the shape, namely how it looks from straight on, but I'm pretty pleased with it. I had a lot of issues with wig colour, because ginger lace fronts are ridiculously rare? It's almost a bit too yellow, IMO, so that it doesn't look intentionally ginger-ish /:
Either way, the orange tones fit me better, so when I had the choice it was only natural to go with ginger rather than blonde.

Sorry if it's been asked before but I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
Some newer friends of mine (non cosplayers) are getting back into Homestuck and it's been reminding me how much I really liked it in its hay day. I cosplayed it a lot but there were a handful of more challenging dream costumes I didn't do and just didn't end up getting around to before I fell out of it. Now I'm looking at cosplaying from it again and when I asked some other cosplay friends about it they really only had poor things to say and judgment to pass. I will say too that I'm really not at all caught up -- last I remember reading was about two years ago.
Should I try to catch up and just go for it anyway or is this a dead cause? I could deal with the fandom woes back in the day when I had cool friends to get through it with but I don't really have that support the way I did. Maybe I'm reading too into this, idk. I just feel cosplay is inherently social and I'd hate to put myself in a weird spot.

Good cosplayers attract good cosplayers, and happy cosplayers attract happy cosplayers, and sane cosplayers attract sane cosplayers. It's not a lot to catch up with, so I'd try and do that. I can also guarantee that no matter how many annoying stuckaboos there might be, you will always find people who're cool. Now, how long that will take, and how well you'll get into the established groups, is up to chance.

Are you in the states? A lot of the older / more mature Homestucks all know each other at this point, if you're not an awkward 14 year old it wouldn't be that hard to make some friends to cosplay with. Cosplay is definitely social but there's a good community right now, even if you're not bringing your existing friends. Or, hell, talk your non cosplay friends into doing it. HS is famously babbu's first cosplay.

They were negative about both of it. Like they're almost all former homestucks and it's kind of the 'in' thing to talk about how shitty it was and how much we all regret it. For me personally I have my regrets and I've certainly said shit about it but generally I met a lot of wonderful people from it and learned a lot about cosplaying from doing it (weird props/prosthetics, bodypaint, etc). I don't really regret it at all!
I'm in the states yeah and not trying to blow smoke but I used to have decent notoriety in the fandom. Did ask panels and had a couple nice costumes. Nothing too big and I wasn't the best or anything, just tried to enjoy myself. I feel like a lot of the people I knew in the fandom grew out of it and they're onto other things now but I'd love to make some newer mature friends in it.
At this point I'm planning on fixing up my Roxy cosplay for the Katsu draw party/maybe barstuck? Just for something comfortable to wear.

more detail: you're gonna wanna measure out how long you want the sleeve to be, and how much of the fabric you're gonna trap in that fold (keeping in mind it's doubled over), and then add that length. google "horizontally pleated sleeve", there's a tutorial you could adapt.
and then carefully detail for depth with fabric paint. If you need help with the shoulder, look for armor tutorials.

It varies a lot. I know some BNFs here have upward of 10-20k, but some have closer to a few thousand. I'm guessing most are at least over 2-3k.

Facebook is significantly harder than tumblr to gain followers on because it isn't a sharing-based platform. Plus now any posts you make are only visible to a fraction of your followers, so it's an even bigger upward battle - unless you already had a ton of followers a few years ago you're pretty much SOL.

BNF is literally "big name fan", so anyone who has has name notoriety among the fandom. Usually that means lots of followers, but on CGL it has more to do with who's on the list based on cosplay quality and quantity.
