Can cosplay lead to modeling, ect? Some cosplayer have built up a fan base and started acting (Luna Lanie) and others who are modeling for companies (pic related)
Is it possible to break into modeling from cosplay?
>>
It's possible, as you've already posted two examples, but it's highly unlikely. Best way to get paid for stuff like that? Lots and lots of fans. Companies will contact you because they want to use your big fanbase and you cooperate because you want free stuff.
>>
Depends, does it have to do with Niles?

And should it lead to her going to sleep?
>>
If you want to be a model, pursuing actual modeling work will be a hell of a lot faster than hoping cosplay will get you discovered.

If you honestly aren't the traditional model type body or face wise (I'm not trying to be mean I wohld describe myself that way) and you're hoping getting popular with cosplay will get you modeling gigs by association then... it does happen sorta when popular bloggers and instagram users are sponsored by small businesses but it's a really far fetched goal and I'd reccomend setting more useful goals for yourself.
>>
Cosplayers with big followings get free stuff sent to them from companies that just want them to post a picture in it to use their fanbase. Any getting into acting or modeling afterwards, it's usually nothing big or professional and usually them just trying to look bigger than they are. To me it just shows they were never really into cosplay in the first place

Modeling is still a very difficult field to get into, at least at serious, professional agencies.

Cosplayers who aren't 5'8" and some change, like 110 lbs, and with a very beautiful, commercial don't have a snowball's chance, unless they have like, a million followers on Instagram.

They can do small "modeling" jobs for smaller brands who don't have the cash to use major agencies, but as far as getting signed to Ford / Elite / Wilhelmina, probably not.
>>
i'm a model. you know, a real one... as in legitimate high-end print campaigns where i got paid a few hundred dollars for each shoot. this thread irks me a bit. lol~ i was scouted, so i never actually had to chase agencies around to get signed. i quit for awhile last year, but i recently got offered a job that i couldn't refuse... so you know. i'm back.

anyway, if you want to take the initiative, i recommend networking online to try and find a photographer in your area whom is willing to do a trade shoot with you so that you can build yourself a portfolio; that way it won't cost you anything. a trade shoot is where the photographer take pictures of you for free. the pictures are then used for him/her in his/her portfolio, and you use them in yours as well. it helps both parties. you will be expected to sign paperwork for this photographer stating that you will always give him/her credit for his/her photos, and you will never use them for purposes of making a profit (a paysite, etc.) unless otherwise negotiated. ..trade shoots help both parties get started, and are a great way to do your first portfolio and start networking and making yourself contacts within the industry.

it's funny. so many people (esp young girls) think that they have what it takes. i don't mean to be a downer to any of you, but if you are truly serious about attempting to find success in this industry... be prepared for harsh criticism and a lot of disappointments. you have to have extraordinarily symmetrical facial features and a flawless body. to give you an idea: i'm 5'1" and 3/4's. i'm currently a 33 inch bust, 21 inch waist, and 32 inch hips. i'm 102 lbs. i do editorial... which means that i'm about 6 lbs overweight by the standards of those whom represent me. i work out constantly to keep in ideal shape. i stick to an extremely strict diet. i keep my skin flawless, because i never know when i'm going to randomly get a call for a last-minute job. you have to be very very beautiful to do print. runway is a bit different... as long as you meet the physical requirements (5'11" and up, very very thin) you don't have to be especially beautiful to do it. commercial/print/editorial is a completely different world all-together. editorial is extremely competitive. you have to be the creme de la creme to get the good jobs. look at the covergirl ads. you must be as close to flawless as possible. yes, they will airbrush you... but no degree of airbrushing can compete with natural beauty. if you're up for it, you must have a thick skin. it's a hard business to break into, especially if you're the one actively trying to get hired. now keep in mind that i'm not talking about the type of modeling that yaya does (for example). i'm talking about the type that i do. my next job is paying a minimum of 5 grand for 3 days of shooting in nyc. (my next campaign is for a very very large blue jeans company. it's pretty huge. you guys will see what i mean when it's finished within the next year, as long as it doesn't get cancelled or delayed.)

i don't mean to sound negative. it's just reality. i hope this helps.

Did you mean 5'11" instead of 5'1"? I can't see very many 5'1" models getting booked for anything outside catalog work.

Reading comprehension, she mentions she does editorials, not runway
>>
>>8764963
Not her, but there's a difference between actual models and say, the girl in OPs pic who probably sees herself as a model. She should have emphasized the difference instead of pointless bragging though.
>>
>>8764974
There are very few models, even for print, that are 5'1". Sorry.

Go to any major agency's website and look at their boards. Even their development boards. 5'8" and up. Even 5'8" is JUST BARELY scraping by.

>>8764978
Seriously. The unnecessary bragging was... unnecessary. If it's true, more power to her, though.

Being sent free merchandise in exchange for pics/reviews doesn't make you a model. Companies do that with anyone who's internet popular for free advertising/hoping to get the word out on their products for a low cost.

It's about them advertising their products to your followers and not about you being hired because of your skills to used as advertising. Idk how to explain it.

If this is your definition of modeling and this is what you want to achieve, then you MUST be a popular cosplayer, since you are just being used for your popularity/following.

As far as cosplaying leading to legitimate modeling career where you're hired for your ability to do the job and because you've got the looks (and not because you're popular in exchange for goods) I don't think I've ever seen it done?
>>
>>8764999
I get what you're trying to say.
Being used to whore out products to your following ≠ being paid for an ad campaign by a company.

But I think both can technically be described as "modeling".
>>
>>8764978
>the girl in OPs pic who probably sees herself as a model
She actually did model before doing cosplay tho. Portfolio is still up on her website.
I get what your saying tho, most cosplayers could never be real models

>Being used to whore out products to your following ≠ being paid for an ad campaign by a company
What about being paid to whore out products to your following? This is becoming an increasingly popular form of advertising. Many companies will pay people with large social media followings to promote their products.
>>
>>8765068
Isn't that more along the lines of sponsorship though?
>>
There are like 2 cosplayers who have gone on to be actual professional models and their modelling and their cosplay had nothing to do with each other.

There is no skill set or qualities that modelling and cosplaying share, other than having a slim waist and a symmetrical face will help you build popularity in both.

If you want to get into modelling, cosplaying will not help you outside of maybe putting you in contact with some easy to please photographers who will shoot you for free, helping you get comfortable with a camera pointed at you. That's all you can gain from cosplay.

Actual modelling requires you to be fully aware of your body and face with a realistic perspective, an eye for composition and posing on par with any professional photographer and you have to have a reasonably high tolerance for pain and general discomfort.

On top of that you need to be at least somewhat tall, you need to have hips and boobs but not too big in either department, your face, skin and hair needs to be pretty flawless but you should not be too good-looking. 'Pretty' is okay, 'hot' and 'cute' are not. Your teeth must be perfectly white and straight. You must be willing to have your style changed at a moment's notice, including having your hair cut and colored. You must be able to carry yourself correctly, walk fully upright and sit, stand and walk with perfect posture.

The decades-old rule is that if you have to ask what it takes to be a model then you don't have what it takes to be a model.

Is it possible to break into modelling from cosplay? Not really, because the two are essentially unrelated. You could get into modelling and you may happen to cosplay as a hobby on the side, but one is not leading into the other.
>>
>>8765131
>skin and hair needs to be pretty flawless but you should not be too good-looking. 'Pretty' is okay, 'hot' and 'cute' are not.
Wrong.
What an idiotic thing to say. There are plenty of different looks in the modeling world. Different looks get booked for different jobs. Hot and Cute not being ok? Where are you even getting this from?
It's also pretty uncommon to have your look changed unless its for a huge campaign. Most agencies make their models keep a certain look that matches their portfolio. Your look is why you're hired. Companies looking for a specific look browse agency portfolios online and request models to come to the casting. You can't show up looking different than your portfolio.
>>
ITT idiots who think there's one set standard for models. You must think all photographers must be Asian too!
>>
>>8765206
Way to completely miss the very obvious point.

If you look like a starry-eyed cherub, you're not going to be getting much work. If you look like you belong in porn, you won't be getting much work.
>>
Cool story, bro.
>>
>>8765248
Very obvious? Since when does hot=porn star and cute=cherub?
When I think of hot I think of Adrianna Lima and Candice Swanepoel, cute I think of Miranda Kerr (who is also very sexy) or Allison Harvard.
Use more descriptive words next time if you want to be understood.
>>
>>8764987
There's plenty of models that aren't 5'8" and not all models need to be a part of a major agency. I know plenty of successful models who aren't as tall, and do plenty of work around the country and traveling abroad. Depends on what field you are working in.

If you have dreams of being a runway or high fashion model, then yes, chances are quite stacked against you. However other types of modeling aren't as demanding, or lucrative, but you can still survive on the pay if you're in high enough demand and fit their desired criteria.
>>
>>8765131

Who?

>The decades-old rule is that if you have to ask what it takes to be a model then you don't have what it takes to be a model.

What the fuck are you talking about?

>>8765213

>ITT idiots who think there's one set standard for models. You must think all photographers must be Asian too!

What the fuck are YOU talking about? "Model standard", 5'9" Dress size 0-4 (really 2), is the standard because it's a standard for professional models. Yes, there are different standards for "print" models or "curvy" models, but their employment opportunities are not as plentiful or lucrative. ALSO, I don't know of any "great" Asian photographers off the top of my head.

>>8766084
>There's plenty of models that aren't 5'8" and not all models need to be a part of a major agency. I know plenty of successful models who aren't as tall, and do plenty of work around the country and traveling abroad. Depends on what field you are working in.

Being paid via Model Mayhem to "model" lingerie or nude isn't real modeling. Serious fashion brands don't recruit their models from Facebook. They go to agencies.
>>
>>8766712
You have quite the narrow view of the industry then. There are plenty of agencies that supply models, not just the major ones. Get off your high horse. You sound as conceited as the twits who do nude modeling or Cosplay Deviants/Geek Girls, but claim they aren't in porn.
>>
>>8766767
Lol are you some girl with a model mayhem account who thinks she's a real model?
>>
>>8766770
Nope, not even a girl. I'm a photographer, so I've shot girls in and out of agencies. Dealt with companies that sometimes used high end models, other times didn't. Just trying to say that there's plenty of room for different models.

Not everyone will be making 1-6k per shoot, and if any aspiring models have that as a goal, then be prepared to be heart-broken, just like all those struggling "actors" that give me my morning coffee.
>>
Maki Roll's Chop Shop does a lot of modeling. She's actually pretty good and takes great pictures.
>>
>>8766853
Nude modeling and burlesque, yes she does
>>
>>8764840
I don't think this is always true, about people not caring about cosplay in the first place. As I've been offered some "free" things now(of course they expect you'll take pictures and post it) but they are all related to my cosplay hobby? Like getting wigs and stuff. For me it's a nice perk, it doesn't mean I have no interest in cosplay.
>>
You definitely have people getting into cosplay, hoping to use it as a launching platform because they failed as a model or actor going the traditional route, while others just happened to get popular enough and start getting free stuff to promote the companies looking to build off of their fanbase, not realizing they can get paid for it, or not big enough to warrant being paid yet.
>>
Apollo Smile tried that route, cosplaying her own comics. A lot of effort was put into building her career. It did not work out.

$10 she was some weeaboos first boner
>>
>>8770753
It worked out well enough for her until she got settled down and started a dance studio. How many other cosplayers can say they got to host Animes late at night for a few years and release a few albums, as well as get a song onto a major Hollywood movie?
>>
Yes. Obviously it depends on your look and what kind of jobs specifically (like what kind of modelling, acting, hosting etc..) but I don't see why not. Obviously not everyone is going to be the runway model type.

Doesn't Alodia do it all now? She endorses a bunch of products, is a vj on tv, acts and apparently sings too? I don't know if she's actually good in all those fields but the point is someone is hiring her to do those jobs.
>>
>>8770806
It's called a pubic mound. I actually prefer them on woman as opposed to a flat spot above the vagina. Most underwear models have these.
>>
>>8764627
There are women who do "Sexy Cosplay" just so that they can get into modeling, since their regular "modeling" portfolio is just dead and bland......
