At least from my experience ordering from cowcow (I'm >>8741415 to give you an idea), if in color it probably will print duller so brighten it if that is something that will bother you and I would try and stick to a color theme in your collage. Lines may end up a tad blurry but it shouldn't be too big of and issue. Try to localize your favourite shots in the center in case the the collage is larger than space on the shirt just so you can be sure they get in there. Also I am not sure about the rest but with the long sleeve crop top the arms are a little loose which can be a pain in the ass.

Taobao has some legitimate things, anything with "Japanese version" or "geniune" or factory reject straps.

Some things are also licensed by chinese sellers for the chinese market, so they would count as legits for all means and purposes.

I pointed this out in an old thread but you don't have to use the long link for the buyfag guide, just use buyfag.moe as the link. They're the same thing. Or just don't link it, it's already in the itabag faq.

Anyways, tag dump.

While I don't mind what other people are doing with their bags, I don't want bootleg on mine. From my point of the view, itabags are not just to express my love for a character, but to support the franchise as well. So I would rather gather stuff at a slower pace, but have it be official merch, than get a bunch of $1 pins from Taobao. Also I don't have any fan-made merch on my bag, but I find fan-made more acceptable than bootleg, so if the character doesn't have much official merch, fanmerch is okay too imo.

Seems like it might be a weird clash of colours and details. Judging by the character I'd say you have to go with the blue bag but then you would have to cover all the horses which would be a lot of clutter all in an awkward up and down line. It's kind of hard to say without seeing any merch examples but I imagine you'll be able to see a bit of pink/purple and horse easily once you put things on. Also his merch seems to be varying shades of teal where the bag is pastel.

It's a pink tote I got off of Amazon. The heart Rin patch I designed on my computer and printed onto printable fabric. You have to use Scotchgard on your fabric patch if you want it to be waterproof - otherwise the ink will run if it rains. I learned the hard way that you have to do a lot of light coats because my first patch turned into a runny mess because I spayed too much too fast.

I own a button maker so the cost was just the parts!

>>8766268
i guess the "novelty" for me was that the bags are usually well organised and people spend lots of money on merch
all the bags like that i used to see in high school just had any and everything thrown on, and looked like crap in general
>>
>>8766277
That would be fair enough as a novelty but I see things like this >>8760630 which isn't really organized and many like this >>8760645 where you have the same pic many times and desu I don't see it as an improvement of the old shit from high school at all.
>>
>>8766277
>all the bags like that i used to see in high school just had any and everything thrown on, and looked like crap in general

This and around cons. There's always a handful of people who cover their bag/jacket/hat with pins from everything they like. There's nothing wrong with that they just all look like the same colorful mess on a black/khaki background. Itabags at least cover some basic good design principles.
>>
>>8766285
not all japanese itabags are nice haha
i actually love repetitive bags when they're neatly arranged, it makes me feel good. but to each their own - lots of people who are making itabags on this thread have different preferences too
>>
>>8766268
It's not so much that people haven't done this before, it's that it's a new take on it.

For years I'd buy pins from artists I liked or even vendors and put them on the straps of my bags and decorate my school backpacks with them but even with having done that experience, making an itabag feels like an entirely different concept.

I don't know what it is about it that makes my weeb days of covering my bags with buttons/badges seem like a totally different universe as compared to making an itabag but that's how it feels.

My opinion/assumption is that an itabag is almost like an artform? You don't see many bags where things are just tossed up there like they would be on our old weeb bags back in the day. Back then I'd had twenty different fandoms worth of buttons and it just looked like a hot mess but with itabags it actually takes time and effort to figure out where to place everything to make it look pretty.

See examples like >>8760597 for beautiful styles or >>8760610 for patterned styles.

I mean you do see some slapped on looks like >>8760630 but when you look at it, it just looks like a hot mess and now that I look at it again, it does look a lot like weeb convention bags from back in the day.

So yeah, I think it boils down not "Well this has clearly been done for years and it's just being rediscovered" but more to "Yes, this has existed before but this is a completely different form."

Especially when you consider that with convention bags most of us bought buttons because we liked them and over time they accumulated on our bags, but for this hobby you're buying merch specifically to go on the bag.
Sorry for the long winded response by the way but I'm planning an itabag panel so I sort of got carried away because it's actually a good question.

How do you pick your base bag, seagulls? I was thinking of picking up one of those Salus combo itabags, but they don't seem that sturdy. I'd prefer something with more compartments and structure, but then you get into diaper bag/soccer mom bag territory, and the likelihood of finding a clear vinyl bag/bag cover that would fit it and accommodate a shoulder strap is close to nil.

Been thinking about getting pic related from Rakuten, but I can't decide.

>>
>>8775466
if anything I feel like buyee might be better for orders with several items because of that pricey flat consolidation fee they have. I've used them more often since they reduced their fees, and while I still can't shake the feeling that they're more expensive than FJ, I like how clean and straightforward their cost breakdown is. FJ dings you a lot for all sorts of little things, but with buyee it's more upfront.

Hey all. I've got this bunch of merch of my swordbando and planned to dump them all on a corkboard at first but fuck that, I want to show my love for him out in public. I'll need some advice for the base bag though.

I've looked into these mise bags available on amiami but I'm rather turned off by the zip frame.

Movic has a bunch of tote bags meant for itabagging (http://www.movic.jp/info/itamate/) but those bags that have multiple colours for selection are not in the right orientation and the one I want has no other colours (http://www.movic.jp/shop/g/g00580-00610-00029/)

I've found one with the colour I want here: https://www.e-salus.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=14522 but from the pic it doesn't seem too sturdy. Also the clear bag it comes with seems a little too big. Other than that it's the closest to what I want so if anyone here has this, reviews would be really helpful.

I've tried digging taobao but the search turns up stuff ranging from leather handbags to those cheap totebags of shit quality that you'd throw after a use and bags with random designs.

tl;dr: want a husbando itabag, got the merch, need some help with the base bag.

Merch is mostly keychains/straps, hardly any badges (1-3 at max), plus a nendoroid sleeping bag without the nendoroid if that matters.
>>
>>8775991
Honestly, the E-Salus one seems like it would be the most sturdy because there's no weight being put on the vinyl cover and the cover is easy remove just by pulling the straps out.

The only other really sturdy good quality bag I've seen is the one in >>8763975 with the first video where they vinyl bag snaps on. The only issue with that I think is the polka dot pattern (it's made for a specific series) and color choices are limited. http://myfigurecollection.net/encyclopedia/69380

Has anyone seen an itabag and clear cover where the cover snaps on all the way around the bag? I swear I've seen one before I can't find it for sale.

And what more, if with a handkerchief prepared one to hide in a moment the goods!
The last item was the most important, How can I think or not than who can well understood If you are a country living, "line of sight if you have a pain bag in the local train station Toka train is too painful ..." oh my god, i love these. i don't like tote bags, i prefer backpacks or messenger bags because they're easier for me to carry around, so i was at such a loss on what to use for my itabag. but i think i'm gonna get one of these actually, thanks so much for sharing!!

I'm >>8774163 and from the few reviews I've read of the salus bags, the clear outer bag is still flimsy enough that the thin strip around the handles gets lengthened out and droopy really fast.

Those bags would be the mise totes from Amiami that >>8774172 mentioned. You can find them really easily just by searching "mise tote" on the English site.

Itaphone anon here! Decided to update to show I'm still alive and planning on doing your cases.

Two of your phone cases arrived today (ignore my Tumblr fashion ones on the left), the S4 and the S6 and I had to write which was which on the packaging otherwise I'd end up making the wrong design.

So far only one 500 piece package of beads has come in so I have about... 30,000 left to go now? I'll update again when I've got enough supplies in to start on at least one case (depends on which colors come in first)!

I suppose I should get the salus bags first and try them out first then? And maybe replace the clear outer bag when it goes to shit.

I did consider the utapri ones since they look pretty nice but
>that price on YAJ
>no pastel colours I want
Plus I don't really want to attract the wrong attention since I'm not into utapri at all. (I avoid series-specific bags for this reason too.)

Has anyone ordered the zakka mart ones that an anon on top posted up? Specifically the renewal tote bags. The renewal ones aren't released yet apparently but I'm really curious how their previously released bags hold up.

Chain in pic related looks perfect for my straps.

one of the many things on ita bags that gets under my skin is seeing the ball chains/thin phone straps dangling off bags. imo, hanging the strap itself from a safety pin looks neater and gives you free rein to easily organize your straps too
>>

I recently got a salus bag and I have to say it's really nice. I don't have a problem with the plastic cover, but that's probably because I haven't used it outside my home. I placed a few badges on it and the bag has yet to sag. I haven't placed all I have on the bag though. The only problem I have with the salus bag is that it has a lot of empty space..

>>8777724
They're called can badge covers/can badge protectors. You can find a bunch on http://www.coade-net.co.jp/shopping/
Click on the big blue button titled 缶バッジカバー and you should be able to see all the badge cover options. You can also search for them on amazon japan and maybe even rakuten. 丸型缶バッジカバー and 缶バッチプロテクター are usually good keywords to find them online.
>>
>>8776021
the ones from movic?

>>8777814
when I think about it now, I think the reason people might complain about the clear bag sagging is if they throw in a lot of the small plushies and shit, and that's probably what the extra space is for, too.so yeah, if you're not purposefully adding weight to strain the clear bag that way, it'd probably be fine if you're careful with it.
>>
>>8775476
the colors on my tanktop were very intense and almost exactly like the digital version. I would actually be a bit worried of it being too bright, thats what happened with the tote i ordered

opinions on this type of style bag? honestly, i'm not a fan of it because it takes away a lot space that could've been used with other merch. however, i do like the idea of keeping everything in place
>>
>>8779032
I don't really like them much either, they really remind me of those plastic binder sleeves I used to store my pokemon cards in when I was a kid. maybe if you did some kind of design that utilizes the grid pattern (get lots of the same few charms and alternate them or something) it could look cool, but just throwing in whatever at random looks like a really messy way to show off your collection.

People really need to read the OP before complaining about no merch.
It's a bit messy with all the links especially since the buyf/a/g guide is posted twice for some reason. Also to whoever made the itabag FAQ, may I suggest some Rakuten stores?

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/auc-terraformer/
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/auc-toysanta/

It might be nice to also point out for Rakuten and Mandarake that searching in Japanese and English will bring you the most results. You can usually get the proper Japanese terms from MyFigureCollection.
And Mandarake has over ten stores so you could also mention that they should order from one store only to keep shipping down or be prepared to pay separate shipping for each store they order from.

Added the stores and tip about searching in Japanese.

I didn't add the part about Mandarake's different sites, because if you use their website in english it will clearly give you the names of different stores on the item's listing, and when you check your cart with things from different stores it makes you buy them separately. It's pretty straightforward about it I think, so I didn't think it was necessary to guide people through it in the doc, but if you really think it should be there I might add it.

Thanks for the suggestions
>>
>>8785330
I've never ordered from two stores at the same time so I didn't know it did that. I just imagined people adding a bunch to their cart to realise the shipping total would be huge so that's okay.

I'd rather not since I like the "cleaner" look of the official merch and don't want clashing artstyles. I'm not planning to use my friends' merch on my itabag either. It just doesn't feel the same?
>>
>>8786890

One of the previous threads suggested getting your own buttons and things printed if your husbando/waifu is one of those not-quite-popular side characters that's hard to find merchandise of.

The thread after some anons reported back that it was difficult to get fanartists' permission to print badges for personal use, so maybe that's why not many people have done it.

Would be nice put stickers in the ita bag?
>>
>>8787175
I think stickers are good, but you may want to slip them in something to protect them. I think they have those photo keychains you can put stuff in right?

I thought I'd ask here since there's been mention of Mandarake in the past threads -- what do you guys do to get around their annoying 3D secure thing with credit cards? I can't pay with Paypal because there are other "adult" things in my order (and I already had them split the order to separate those out), and it's definitely not a fraud alert/hold on my account from my bank's end. I use Visa and I see the card being verified every time I hit the submit button, but it still comes back to me with the same fucking 3D secure error.

I've tried paying from Chrome, Firefox, Safari, from my mobile, even on IE, and I get the same error. Tried with my middle name and without. Any other ideas or leads I can try?
>>
>>8787357
Are you sure it's not some kind of security thing on your card blocking the transaction?
>>
>>8787357
Mandarake recently had restriction policies on foreign credit cards, so it probably has to do with that?

> Credit Card payment from the following countries and regions are not available on our website.
-VIET NAM, MEXICO, INDONESIA and PERU
-California, Florida, Oregon, Texas, Illinois, Nevada and New Jersey (in U.S.A)

>For the above reason, new customers in these locations are not able to place orders which contains Paypal restricted items (dojinshi and related products) on our website. If you wish to purchase those items, please contact us.
Refer here for more details.

Hope this helps.

I know about the foreign credit card thing, which is why I talked to them already about splitting my order. I've paid for part of my order with Paypal, sent them the IDs for the remaining "adult" goods through the form, and they sent me back another link to pay for the remainder of my order.

Definitely no flags on my account, and I've used the same card to purchase from other Japanese stores multiple times throughout just the past month.

I know others have gotten their payment through by just trying multiple times a day over several days, but I was hoping someone who's been through the same ordeal has some kind of tried-and-true method to get around their faulty security check. But I guess I would have heard about it already on MFC or elsewhere if it were that simple...
>>
>>8787376
Same anon, reporting back in. Got my payment to go through after dozens of unsuccessful tries.

I don't think there's any tricks to it, just literal brute force and unholy amounts of persistence.
>>
>>8787437
Glad for you, anon.

I absolutely love these and I've been dying to make one for my husbando but there is literally no merch for him, the few bits I have found are all fanmade and really hard to get hold of. I saw an artist I like make one though completely out of fanmade pieces and now I'm considering it.... Does anyone know any really good/cheap places to get charms or badges printed?

Finally tracked this bag down! It's available for preorder at Village Vanguard, and it's by マイコレバック (My Colle Bag, they do a bunch of itabags):
http://vvstore.jp/i/vv_000000000088792/?utm_medium=recommend

>>8787550
Artsmoo? You could also try the recommendations in the Artists Alley thread, but the sellers they work with typically only do bulk orders.
>>
>>8787550
For charms, you need to probably buy a bulk of them though that should help with the itabag right? Visit the Artists Alley thread for the manufacters, I'm looking to make some myself.
>>
We talk about physically decking out our phones but does anyone have any custom phone interfaces they use that are husbando or waifu themed?
>>
Apparently there's a ton of sideM stuff on taobao and I'm having a hard time evaluating if stuff is bootleg, factory reject or extra items.

based on what the store(it just resells japanese merch) they're probably legit. Although what you posted seems to be a preorder from the Lantis store so they won't get shipped till February.

Thanks guys! That's a good idea with the artist alley thread! I'll check it out!!
>>
>>8787437
Thanks for posting this anon! I'm going to try to do that the next time I order from them. I'd placed an order with them last month and had to cancel it because no matter how many times I tried, the card wouldn't go through. I really wish they'd change their payment method.
>>
>>8788323
Now that I'm not on terribad internet and can get a psuedo translation I see that's the case for most of the listing. I guess I can get the same stuff with a slightly better exchange rate?

Comparing the two stores, some things are out of stock on the lantis store and going through taobao might be a little more expensive because their prices are a little more. Yen rate isn't too bad, I would just go get a japanese proxy/forwarding for the lantis store and go through that, unless you want the Beit or HighxJoker keychains which are sold out at Lantis.

I'd love to get a randoseu backpack for my S.E.M bag because
>Sturdy
>School-related
>Reasonably priced used ones on YJ
>They sell randoseru rain covers which are just clear sleeves

Except
>Want to bring itabag to Japan, too bulky pack
>Weird for grown white gaijin to be carrying an elementary school backpack?
>>
>>8789493
I think a high school bag like >>8776700 would work better, or if you want a backpack >>8776032

I had to sell my randoseru because I found it too embarrassing to keep, it's also really bulky, hurts back and is just awkward to have if you're tall.
>>
>>8789528
>>8789528
> just awkward to have if you're tall
There's the kicker I'm 5' 9"

Yeah the high school bags were my first choice I briefly just got over excite when I saw how cheap randoseru could be on YJ. I posted this in the FB group but I'm still undecided on what color to get because the pink does look pretty good it's just very different from everything I typically wear even to cons.
>>
>>8789920
The dark one is a lot more casual and provides more contrast, and can probably go with more outfits unless you dress with a lot of pink/pastel
>>
>>8789920
>heart shaped badges
I have a mighty need but I never can find where to get them made.
>>
does anyone know if it's possible to use small blind box figures to make keychains out of? I want to make an itabag of the characters I have cosplayed, and a lot of them it's hard to find anything of the exact character and outfit... I'll be making a lot of buttons and such, but I do still want some keychains too.

I was thinking I could drill a small hole in the top of the figure and glue in a small metal eyelet and get my own little keychain clasps. But is this just asking for disaster for the figure to fall off the eyelet? Any advice?
>>
>>8790227
Nothing is a disaster if you have the clear protective bag. I haven't been using mine long but I've already found loose items in the bottom of mine on a few occasions.
>>
>>8790207
There's a ton of custom product places that make them problem is there's pretty much always a minimum order of 100

http://www.promosontime.com/i/3053/custom-heart-buttons-in-full-color-2.htm
>>
>>8790240
Hmm while this is practical I don't think the keychains would look as cute trapped inside the plastic bag rather than dangling freely.
>>
>>8790310
True but they really won't be cute when you discover one is missing. The first rubber strap to come loose on my bag was my favorite.
>>
>>8790266
Ouch. I definitely don't need that many.
>>
>>8790266
100 of the same or 100 in general? What if we did a group order?
>>
>>8790635
They usually let you do 2 or 4 different designs for every lot of 100
>>
>>8790635
The link says four different designs, so two anons with the same husbandos can share 25 buttons between themselves, etc. Wish merch manufactures made more heart shaped buttons because they're adorable.

>tfw these games have consumed my life

I'm having a hard time finding his singles irl, did you pull your charms/buttons from blind cases anon? i've checked akiba a few times with little luck. will probably just do auctions in the end since they seem more fruitful!
>>
>>8786729
Where did you got the center and bottom straps? Those are adorable!
>>
Is fromjapan alright for making pre-orders direct from japanese merch sites or is there a better one?
>>
An auction for an item I want will end in a 3 hours and I am using buyee but should I really invest the extra 500 yen for the insurance plan or no? Is it worth it?
