Can we have a decoden thread? We've had them before and they went really well.
I'm thinking about getting some whipple cream, anyone here have experience with it? Also what are your thoughts on the amount of people who use it to decorate phone cases? Is that market pretty much full or should I try to get in on that?

I used to do a FUCKLOAD of Decoden (pic related of a couple did)
I actually just bought "Whipple" branded whipple cream today.. Its a lot like watered down fimo and Im not sure of its lasting capability, I actually used to use silicon as as much as it smelled horrid for the first week, it was waterproof and had incredibly strong hold on the case and the deco pieces.
Basically in the decoden market.. Its like:
1. How good are your creations
2. How cheaply can you price
When I was selling I bought in MASSIVE bulk and could undercut everyone. My cases in the pic were around $15USD. Saying that though, I have seen people sell some absolute garbage for $50USD so its really about your marketing.
As for my thoughts on it... its tacky as hell and I am a tacky bitch.. so I really like it! And making it is a lot of fun,
Wish people made S5 decoden cases, but no one does it. Cases are too expensive compared to iphone I guess...

Unfortunately I don't know enough about silicone to make these kind of phone cases.
I thought it was like dyed glue? The video I saw of someone making a case made it seem that way because they put it on, and then stuck a bunch decoden stuff in it and it dried perfectly.
I've also seen videos of people dropping the cases they made to prove it holds up and it does, at least for one drop it does.
Most people only have their phones for like 2 years tops, so it needs to last 2 years max but could probably get away with a lot less than that.

Than what you could do, but it isn't good. Its over crowded, not organized in any sort of pattern. Its honestly just stuff thrown on that was shipped in bulk. The top row is straight up what is posted in things like the regretsy thread all the time. I understand she is a seagull, but that doesn't mean you need to coddle her just because she is one of us. She need major improvements on whipped deco and a bit on jewel deco.

I'm also tacky, anon. If you don't mind a little concrit, I'd say that the first in the first row is overcrowded to the point of looking messy even for decoden, and that the bottom bear of the second case of the first row (that plush one) looks dead.
That being said, I would def buy the third case on the first row and the third of second. Love the crown and just bling of the sixth case.

When I was a kid, my parents bought me this set of blank plastic Gameboy Color cases meant for decorating/painting. Maybe there's some of those you can buy in bulk on Ebay, if you're looking to make your own? I only found one truly decoden Gameboy Color in my really short google search but the actual page 404'd. They're so pretty. And now That I've learned they make dust plugs with loops for keychains, I've been thinking of making/getting a case for lolita meet ups or something.
Even though you can buy the supply in bulk, it can still get a little pricey. I think it would be fun to have a craft deco den party for a meet up though.

Some concrit from me as well. I don't know why salty anon (as they are known now for some reason) is getting a lot of hate, because the examples they're posting do look a bit more put-together than some of these.I do love the third one, though!
I think for me, it's that there seems to be less of a color scheme or thought put in for some of them. Plus, cheap stuff (like the badly painted G3 knockoff pony) doesn't have to LOOK cheap. That's the centerpiece, and it really isn't cute.
For number two, I think it's got a solid cute color scheme, but that plush bear is just strange. It'll get dirty, and having one random plush item just...doesn't fit, I don't think. I've never seen another decoden case with plush, probably for the 'dirty' reason. Also, the black background case doesn't look very cute withit.
Third one I love!!! Purple whip is a little messy, but that's my only concrit. Also, you're missing a bit of something right near the bottom, unless a piece fell off...? There's a gap.
I like all the jewel ones, but I don't know as much about jewel deco.

Curious, if I wanted to get something commissioned for a certain character on a decoden case, would a commissioner generally be OK with someone buying the specific charm they wanted on there and sending it to them?

Yes. It's too chaotic to look good. You should have some negative space in there somewhere and stick to a few colours for main pieces, plus a couple more in matching tones for accents. Those cookies are adorable, but they'd look a lot better if only a couple of them were used.

I actually suck at original crafts because I second guess everything I make but with these I think they'd be perfect for me because I get really zen doing repetitive tasks and I also love puzzles which is basically what this is when it comes to finding the right bead size.

Your piping needs work, but the bottom left is really nice. If you piped neatly around the edges top middle and right would be way better. Top left is kind of a mess though.

This anon here. I hit a snag trying to load up on clear cases for my phone model. All of them are soft cases which I know is going to wreck any complex design like >>8735499 >>8735501 so I have a proposition for you anons.
I don't want to buy hard cases for phone models I can't use myself and I don't want to try and sell stuff I'm not confident is good (got no urge to be on Regretsy) so I was wondering if you anons would share some of your phone models with me? In return, as long as no one minds getting some experimental designs, I'd be happy to toss some itaphone cases your way once I get everything in and make stuff. Search for 'resin cabochons' and go from lowest to highest, and you should find quite a few. You might end up finding fimo ones too but not many. And, obviously, see if the quality's decent, you should be able to get a good idea of the paint job at least from the pic.

Ebay and etsy. There's an extraordinary amount of skeletal lady cameo cabochons, but you should be able to find some that aren't those. If you do want them, look for one that glows in the dark.
It's better to type in exactly what you want, eg black rose cabochon, otherwise you'll drown in pages of aforementioned skeleton lady. Pic absolutely related.

i look on AliExpress for gothic cabos often, but besides the various types of skeletal cameos, there isn't much. i have considered getting cheap metal charms and just clipping off the round part and sanding it down, but they're not all flat-backed and sanding down metal often strips its color.
at this point i suspect my best bet is to buy gothic jewelry, make molds out of the various components, and make my own resin cabos. there isn't anything out there for gothic resin crafts that isn't a menacing skull, an overdone cameo, or a clownish Halloween cartoon.

Sadly that might be your best bet. Things like crosses, bird skulls and hourglasses should be easier to find, but if you want anything else you're sol. If you do end up making your own molds I'd be interested in buying them, it's refreshing to see something that isn't that damn cameo.
