Military or no? I rarely see sweet military other than that one Bodyline series, even though AP has released a couple of military-esque prints and pieces like pic related. I think the nutcracker soldier/marching band look is quite cute though and can still be military.

I think this set and what HD did with the soviet coord are the best attempts at military to date. They're more creative and accurate, and look less like an RPG character's outfit.

This one as well. I love how clean and polished these look. I feel that military should be more refined and tailored, not like the ones with all the crosses and roses and shit on them. It just doesn't make sense and seems too much like the wearer has no idea what a military uniform looks like. Of course, the Die Walkure set is cool for the polished look, but it still has it's tacky flaws.

Modern military uniforms are cleaner and more functional, old ones weren't. A lot of the crosses and embroidery and lots of buttons are inspired by older uniforms just like most of lolita fashion has older inspirations. Also that first pictures just looks like a flat out costume from some larp where the girls didn't want to be nurses. Not kawaii.

That is true to an extent, but I guess I'd be more inclined to agree with you if that's what the attempts actually looked like. Most of them look like they wanted to go modern authoritarian but were too afraid of what people would think, so they threw a bunch of costume elements on to keep it safe. If someone did a coord with a big Napoleonic hat or bright red wool blazer, then that would look much closer to what you're suggesting, but no one has really done that yet. There's none of the key elements; shoulder-boards, relatively correct hats, etc.
Buttcape does look incredible, though; she nailed that crazed take-over-the-world look.

It's called a peaked cap. You can find surplus Berkshire peaked caps on eBay etc for pretty cheap. If you really need black and don't want to redye an air force or tropical navy cap, you can either go the eastern European route (Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc.) or buy a nazi repro. You might also try shopping for military academy surplus.

I actually have another Soviet coord that I haven't worn yet. I've actually tried thinking of how to combine camo in a coord since there are so many interesting patterns out there, but nothing has come to me yet. I have a brown IW OP that I may do something East German with, since I have a full DDR splinter uniform that I can take the bags and belts from and use as accessories. My dream camo is post-war Austrian pea-dot, though, but all I have is a parka and I really can't do much with that in terms of lolita, aka, can't do shit with it.
I'm really flattered and happy that that you've found it inspiring, though. That coord felt most like me since I got to combine my other interests with it, so I'd like to try and do more with a military theme. This whole thread has me really inspired and thinking of ideas!

Being genuinely curious here: why exactly do you love wearing historical uniform-inspired coords?
It's not you personally; I'm asking myself the same about people at goth/electro music festivals who wear uniforms that clearly reference historical uniforms.
The only explanation I've come up with so far is that they see and think "well-tailored, powerful fighter aesthetic", and that any war-related images they were shown during history lessons in school are not present in their minds.

It just combines another hobby that I have. I've been collecting uniform pieces since before I had ever learned what Lolita was, so it feels extra personal and rewarding for me to able to combine two things that I enjoy instead of having to focus on one over the other. It presents an extra challenge in coording to figure out how pieces completely unrelated to Lolita can be combined with the fashion in a cohesive manner.
As far as the uniform thing in general goes (Lolita out of the picture), I'm not entirely sure. I came from a military family and studied history in Europe and the US, so it just feels natural to be able to have and hold the things that you read about and see in lessons. I don't personally feel that it has any power fetishism for me, but is rather an extension of a desire to learn, much like visiting a museum or participating in a reenactment would feel.
