speaking as someone who's been using tumblr for a logn time, i'd say def ask but don't get your hopes up. if its a blank blog, there's a good chance the person who owns the url might not visit tumblr anymore. there's also a big trend of people on tumblr keeping a hold on urls for a long time just to say "look at me i have this special url" and they will never give it out to anyone for any reason. i've known people who only have a tumblr account so they can hoard a bunch of urls. it's actually a pretty common problem to look up things like fandom urls, brand urls, things like that and find every single one taken and blank.
people have been asking the staff of tumblr for YEARS to delete blogs that are inactive for 2 years but they do shit like slightly changing the blue hue or moving the like and reblog buttons around instead.

Tumblr's like every social media where someone can passive-agressively do something--salty. I used to post a mix of things, including comic book stuff and jfashion. I'd get these basic "I LOV THE JOKER XD" accounts that would follow me. The minute I'd mention my boyfriend to someone I knew and was talking to or actually interact with him on tumblr, all the basic comic edgelords would bounce.
It doesn't mean you're not cute or you're offensive somehow. Some people just didnt sign up for seeing actual humans on their dashboard. They want 2D, coords, or whatever else you post. Some people are flat out jealous. There is, I feel, a percentage that is bitter and wants you to feel a follower loss if they feel like you're cuter--but that's the demographic--young girls in cosplay or JFashion. You're using it wrong. Sorry, that's blunt, but I work for a place where I was trained to run their social media. You're doing it wrong. Something about the way you're posting is unappealing.
1. Do you write text posts? Are they interesting? Be honest with yourself, if you're a boring autist, stop writing text posts. If you're not, try to include an image. Images grab more attention.
2. How are your photos framed? Is the background loud in any way? Is your home messy? Fix your location. Use a camera that's not a fucking toaster.
3. Are your coords actually interesting or are you shitting on our faces with lies here? Be real with yourself. Then fix it.
4. Are you into anything that has a broader appeal? I don't mean to tell you trend hopping is the way to go, though it certainly is how some people cheat, but if you're in an extremely niche substyle, don't be surprised if you get 0 attention. Character no one gives a fuck about? Same shit. Same goes for the broadstrokes. Do you cosplay a popular character? You're SOL if it's been done a million times better than you all the time.
5. Are you using the tags properly? Are you being too niche or too broad with those? Here's a big difference between Instagram and Tumblr: You can't abuse the tags with spam as well. Only the first 5 tags you choose will show up in the respective tag, fuckface, so work with that. Everything you tag your photos with on Instagram will show up in its tag.
You can bitch about trans kids getting all the attention no one gave you, but the ones I'm seeing get more notes than you, you know
