I like Chii cosplayers. I just don't like the ones that get the shitty pink frilly satin one from the same shop. It's always frumpy looking. But if effort is put in I don't mind Chii at all.
I got to the party late on this franchise. I really enjoyed AC1. I also do historical reenactment. So I was making a costume using as many period techniques and materials as I could. It was all linen and distressed, hours spent tooling leather and making a glove that would hide my finger. Then I went to a local con before it was finished. with so many of them around the parts now sit in a box in my closet.

Whether or not they think so because of the songs, their looks, whether they identify with them, whether they want to fuck them, whether they want to be them, it all boils down to them being cute. Not that anon, but even though Love Live isn't particularly deep it pulled me out of a depressive state of a couple years and rekindled my passion for singing and dancing, plus I find the story of 9 girls working hard to achieve their dream really inspiring. It sounds silly but LL has a deep personal meaning for me, so it's... not so much upsetting as disheartening to come across people who just like it because it's cute.

I'm tall so I knew I wasn't going to find a harness or a jacket the proper size. So I made my shit thinking it would be so much better that way.
I'm a killer seamstress and it turned out really well that people think I bought my stuff so I'm like why the fuck did I even try.

Been living with this for like 7 or 8 years now bro. I feel ya.
When I started cosplaying I was the odd one out at only 17 years old. Everyone I met was 23+. Most were nearing 30. I couldn't wait till I would be older & knew as much as they did and was respected for it.. I got to 26 and was just getting good at the craft when the "me first" shit started up. Like people cosplaying Rikku from FFX before it even came out. I was like...ok I see the appeal in that. Challenging yourself to make it good and fast. Then I realized it was just for the attention it got you. Then came the sexy cosplayers. Lots of people did sexy cosplay already but it wasn't the ONLY thing they did. They had scads of other types of costumes and 2-5 sexy ones. But the new sexy ones were only wearing sexy, people started getting boobs jobs, and being featured as guest of honor at cons cause boobs.
At that point I knew looking forward to being a respected older person in fandom wasn't going to happen. Sex had taken over and once it does there is really no going back.

They are black in some of the colored art. Most people go with brown though because the TV show and most of the art says brown.

In the manga, the straps and boots were black. Fun fact, Mikasa's scarf was also black. I've been tempted to do a manga-accurate version, but I know I would get shat on at cons so I'm just sticking the regular uniform every once in awhile.
I'm an AoT cosplayer, but I have to agree, some of it has to stop... I don't even mind store-bought (as long as it's taobao and not that Hot Topic bullshit) because I will admit half of mine is bought because I'm a pretty crappy seamstress and can only make simple things. But I modded my harnesses to hell and back to make them look nice, meanwhile some people won't even bother even ATTEMPTING to keep them up. And seeing cosplayers without the harness kills me a little everytime I see it. Just... Please, put some effort in people.
