Let's discuss new and upcoming indie brand releases! What do you guys have on preorder?
>>
I have the Death Angel print reserved, but I can't unsee the penis thing now, fuck
>>
>>8671548
They should call their company "CocksFeathers" because nice dick print.
>>
>>8671551
It was the first thing I noticed when I clicked on the image above

I was so hyped with this print...and I-I just reserved it...

Stumbled across pic related on my newsfeed and I think I'm gonna get it. The brand is Rose Cat Lolita and the series is called Fairy Tale Wedding.

I reserved it in white, but I didn't realize this was releasing and now i'm super upset I bought the fox feather dress. T..T I'm hoping to one day see this on LM
>>
>>8671730
I love this print but hate that it's halter-neck.
>>
>>8671659
Wow, that's gorgeous.

>>8671824
Same, anon. Love the print but the actual dress style is kind of weird.
>>
Is it just me or is taobao brand really killing it with gothic prints/releases in general these days compared to Japanese brands? I can't think of a print I've liked from brand that was straight up gothic (without very sweet elements) in a long time but stuff like >>8671548 really does it for me.

>>8671824
Yeah, halterneck automatically kills anything for me. Anyone know if they sell that blouse though?
>>
>>8671956
Yeah, taobao gothic has been great lately. Gotta say though, I just don't see many gothic releases in general. Where Japan at?

Blouse is for sale, yes. It's here on taobao:
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=523051347445
And they have someone handling US/Canadian orders, check "Theriaca Botanica" on facebook, reservations start tonight.

I really want the JSK but I need the larger size that is only available through that facebook page.... but I'm in Europe, and they seem to only ship to US/Canada. I mad. Maybe I'll ask my SS if I can get it through taobao anyway.
>>
anyone know when equinox is gonna start shipping out their summer solstice series?

Did anyone manage to get one of the new Mossbadger JSKs? I wanted a Compedium but didn't get to the listing in time.
>>
>>8671977
That's really interesting... the dobby fabric and apron-like top makes me think country, but with a cage at the bottom? I like it. Very doll-like.
>>
I've ordered pic related from Sweet Addiction Store and I'm a little worried because I've heard their quality is hit and miss, but I really liked the print. It's pretty cheap so I guess if it's no good at least I'm not out much money.

>>8671967
Gothic is pretty dead right now. People don't even get excited for new Moitie stuff anymore. Sad day.
>>
>>8671977
It also comes in black. My body is ready.

>>8671992
It's also gorgeous in black. Since it's one of the few taobao brands that still have decent prices I might just get both colors.

>>8671996
I don't really get this at all. With the people shitting their bloomers over the lacey dark stuff AP does. Moitie have tonnes of that when they're not clearing out their printed stuff (like right now)
>>
>>8671548
The penis issue just makes me want this dress more. It's such a stupid thing to overlook, I love the combination of "gothic elegance" and "lol that's a dick"
>>
>>8671998
>>8672004
Shit. Now I really want this...
>>
>>8671996
I also wanted to get that print, but I wish Pirates and the Crown Rose hadn't partnered with Sweet Addiction for it. The bodice is super plain and basic for a print like that, PCR makes way more interesting-looking things most of the time. But honestly, Mexican indies are really hope-for-hit-but-miss.
>>
Has there been any word on this print from Ista Mori? Looking at it now though, it reminds me a lot of the new IW candle print.

>>8671996
I'm on the same boat, anon. My sewing skills aren't that great so I'm hoping that it comes in an acceptable condition where I don't have to fix it.

>>8671998
I really love this.
>>
Am I allowed to ask questions about starting an indie brand in this thread?
>>
>>8672059
Please go look in the archive. We've had so many of those threads the last couple of months
>>
>>8672046
I'm hoping that if it turns out badly, I can get it made into a corset skirt. I'm a little concerned about the way the bodice looks...

What's the quality of Gloomth like? I'm thinking of using this for a guro coord eventually but it looks kind of strange. And there's so much fraying on the big red cross in the other photos.
>>
>8672136
Pretty notoriously shit. They've been better at promoting themselves recently, so they get invited to events, but they use poor quality materials, and their designs are generally pretty dated. And not in an oldschool way.
>>
are there any good green dresses or skirts from indie brands? It's so hard to build a solid green wardrobe from what little brands release.
>>
>>8672136
There is something about this that is a little off for me but I can't decide what it is.
>>
>>8671730
Is this fox feather too?
>>
>>8672183
Green is hard to find. This one is currently on preorder (I think) from Amastacia.
http://world.taobao.com/item/523065126342.htm

Surfacespell Gothic also has some lovely green dresses and skirts.
>>
>>8672254
Is that a man?
>>
>>8672254
I've been wanting a SSG green velvet piece but they only have wine, royal blue, and black right now. No green.
>>
>>8671977
>>8671998
>>8672004
I don't really buy Chinese indie that much, but I'm so hyped for this design. I'm going to buy both colors. It looks like something a witch who lives in the woods would wear.
>>
>>8672254
Oh, this dress is beautiful... Diff anon and I actually really dislike green, I would buy this in any other jeweltone or black if they made it, but looks like one color only.

I think it comes down to Moitie just being so damn expensive and putting out so few items. Also reletively small sizing.

Moitie is my absolute favorite brand. 2/3 of my items are from them. I'm consistently frustrated with their lack of releasing of smaller items. I want rings, bags, and socks and they never seem to release these items. I'm also right on the cusp of fitting their unshirred items with an 88cm bust and 72cm waist. I also have the misfortune of having a wide ribcage/underbust measurement at 79-80cm. So as much as I would love to buy their unshirred pieces and coats I always have to worry that they will never fit!

So with Indie brands (like Dark Box/ Kinyo666 mentioned above) putting out fantastic higher quality than normal Taobao pieces that I know will fit, I'd rather buy from them.

It makes me really sad that Moitie hasn't really come into the world of the rest of the brands by slightly lowering prices and making themselves more visible (I know they are easily available by CDJapan etc) but they now lack any of their own store fronts and a large overseas following. Moitie is just so damn iconic for me and it's the brand that got me into Gothic Lolita so I have some serious feels about this. Sorry for the essay!
>>
Preordered both the penis dress and pic related. Hope the quality turns out okay.
>>
>>8672305
sauce please
>>
>>8672283
The designer's weibo has photos of it in a second color, actually! http://weibo.com/swolfling
>>
>>8671979
I missed out too but apparently she'll be doing another release once she's worked through the initial pre-orders, which is better for my wallet anyway.
>>
I heard Ecailles de Lune was going to release Forest of Pipe Organ yet again...is this true or were they just bullshitting? I've been dying to get my hands on the black x silver jsk. I was so upset when I saw the latest re-release had a black to white gradient with a black print instead. The silver looked so cool!

>>8672291
It's ok anon, I'm also a huge Moitie fan so I'm always excited to discuss them. My currency (CAD) is so weak against USD and JPY that Moitie is just too expensive. I bought the Frame Cross jsk for 30k yen but after currency exchange, shipping, and customs it was close to $500. I imagine it's a similar situation for Europeans.

>>8672283
The dress also comes in pale blue. I have no idea why they'd release it in two unusual colours and leave out the mainstays like black or ivory.
>>
>>8672305
I need this. Seconding sauce.

I preordered this dress, reminds me both of MM's Farutetto and VM's Lace-up Doll.
>>
>>8673296
Gorgeous, but...
>boob chains why
>>
>>8673306
To... complement the elegant swoop of the neckline? I have no idea.
>>
>>8671730
The art for this dress was apparently stolen from this person on etsy. The plague doctor/skeleton/other details overlap perfectly.
>>
>>8673320
link?
>>
>>8671659
Ah, I was thinking about getting that, too!
>>
>>8671977
I can't find it in their taobao page
>>
>>8673364
It's not up yet
>>
>>8673365
Any idea of when?
>>
Was thinking about getting this.. The brand looks pretty new, definitely not established yet so it could turn to shit pretty quickly.. but I love random Taobao brands, especially when very few get made..

But this shop has some impressive looking things in their store currently!
>>
>>8673426
The material looks a bit questionable, even with all that photoshop
>>
>>8673409
All they said was "coming soon"
>>
>>8673426
That hem. No so fond of the execution but the design is nice. Love the hat.
>>
>>8673320

>>
>>8673320
>>8673325
>>8673508

Here's some comparisons from the thread on Lolita Updates. Apparently the images on the print were stolen from this Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/VictorianLowbrow
>>
>>8673528
Here's the image in question overlaid with the print. It's the Black Death Plague Doctor Poster in the Etsy shop. The plague doctor is spot-on. It looks like the taobao shop took down the listings, so they might come out with a revised version soon.
>>
>>8673528
>>8673531
Wow uh, yeah. Screw that. What makes you say they'll do a revised version, though?
>>
>>8671979
I got the long Tarot.
>>
>>8673555
Just because they took the listing down- Chinese lolitas are pissed about it too, hence the first comparison shot being from a Weibo account. I'm only speculating though, no idea if they'll cancel the release altogether.
>>
>>8673571
>Chinese people being pissed about stolen art
>>
>>8673320
God damn it. I really liked this dress, even despite the halterneck. Sauce on the etsy shop with the original art, at least?
>>
>>8673584
Because, wow, there is a minority who are genuinely interested to protect creative rights? Sorry if I sound very bitchy but that is very disrespectful to the rising portion of population that do care about intellectual property rights, even though the number is still small. People being pissed about stolen art is a great thing to happen in the lolita community.
>>
>>8673531
I am so damn disappointed, but glad this was discovered before I placed a preorder. I loved everything about that dress.
>>
>>8673610
Sound like a rising number of very westernized people. Disregarding copyright is based on Chinese culture and values. It's not just some bad foreign thing to scoff at.
>>
>>8673302
This is really nice. What's the final price? All I can find on that page is the initial deposit.
>>
>>8673601
They linked it already.
>>8673528
>>
>>8673640
I'd actually be interested to hear more about this anon, if it's not totally bullshit. I've heard a Chinese fandom acquaintance mention something vaguely similar once but they didn't explain it at all. But from what I gather it has something to do with traditional art techniques passing around but I wasn't sure if that was made up or not?
>>
>>8673622
Likewise. I was tempted to just get the dress and tip the artist like $20 directly, so I'm glad they took it down and saved me from being an asshat.
>>
>>8673648
I'm not an expert on any of this, it's just something I picked up from some articles. The gist of it is that copyright as an invention intended to favor the individual creator but not always in favor of the greater public. While individualism is held in high regard in Europe and even more so America, China has been a lot more about community with more focus on obedience than autonomy. There's also a big cultural aspect of honoring things by imitation. Learning to be a master painter by copying other painter's art for example.

>>
I'm reading on lolita updates that the illustrator for >>8671548 is apparently the same one that did >>8671730 and parts of BOTH prints are traced. Fox's Feathers seems to be on the case. I'm very curious what the outcome of this will be.
>>
>>8671548
This also got taken down for copying art. Not as much as the Death Angel one and they are contacting the real artist to ask for permission.
>>
>>8673750
I just saw that. Man, this sucks...hopefully they can work something out with the original artist. I hope they name and shame the tracer because it's unacceptable for them to screw over multiple indies like this.
>>
>>8673642
420 CNY. I'm so excited for it.
>>
>>8674005
Thanks, for that price I'm definitely going to order one!
>>
>>8673296
>>8673296
I just reserved this one from them. As soon as I saw the post on LU I contacted my ss to reserve it. I got it in black but I also really like the white one coupled with the collar, it looks really papal. I'm wondering if I should've gotten it. Oh well. The dress comes out in December so maybe if there's any white ones in my size I'll grab it.
>>
>on TB hiatus for 2 years
>see this thread
>get back into taobao
>my cart has $700 worth of lolita shit in it

Fuuuuu
>>
>>8673426
This is terrible
>>
>>8672366
No idea if they will release it again, but I agree...
All I want is this black, not that white one they did in the re-re-release.
>>
>>8674111
I love the overall look, but I'm not so keen on the pearl strands. Are they detachable? They're just spaced oddly with the "overskirt" portion the way it's placed. The individual pearl drops are great, though. That looks so nice with the lace.
>>
>>8677777
I'm pretty sure they are. If they aren't, idk, I'm crafty enough and would probably remove them and re-adjust them myself. Hoping that it looks a bit better in person.
>>
>>8677777
damn, nice get
>>
>>8672183
There's a green one in the Moss Badger release. I can't find a picture of the dress that I can download but this is the fabric.

I nearly bought it on a whim, but the print is just so cluttered looking. I wish the art were a bit more delicate and had a better element of design to it; as it is I find it cute but a bit too tacky.

>>8671998

It's up for reservation now until the 31st! Go get it gulls.
>>
Does anyone know about this print from Laurence Lolita? Are they ever going to make this dress happen?
>>

>>
>>8679051
that picture makes my eyes go funny, like it's moving. I wonder if the print being an optical illusion was the intention of the designer.
>>
I'm finding this Long Ears Sharp Ears' Studio's dress gorgeous but I noticed the description said it was "Jojo inspired" but I can't really see the inspiration except for the "Stardust" in the dress' name? It's still lovely either way, this colorway is my absolute favorite.
>>
>>8683584
sure anon, but the reservation ended. like I said it comes out in december, I think the post on lolita updates (it was posted around the beginning of the month) indicates there will be some in stock at that time.

I'm thinking of ordering Rouge Aerie's Nightmare Rising JSK in blue, but I can't find any reviews on it. Can anyone here attest to the quality? I love the screenprint, but hopefully the construction of the dress is good quality as well.
>>
>>8685902
I have it and I really like it. There were a few loose threads, but overall good quality. The fabric is thick and relatively heavy.
>>
>>8685902
fabric is either a heavy cotton or linen? It's a very nice quality dress, and considering that it's on sale for 55USD, better quality for Taobao/bodyline prices...
>>

I'm still deciding which cut I want to get and was initially leaning toward the JSKII, but the bib area piece and bottom ruffle looked strange on the mannequin. Is it any better in real life? I can't find many worn pictures since JSKI seems to be more popular.

I bought this one! it was through my-Lolita-dress. it came with the bat shaped head bow, and I bought the witch hat that goes with it. It should be here soon, but I haven't gotten my tracking info yet and it's driving me mad.
I will post pictures of it when I get it if anyone wants to see. (it would be from my phone though, sorry)

Elegy made a cotton version of their Batty OP. It's pretty cute and they also have a discount going on for Halloween.

By looking at some of the reviews other taobao users have left, it looks like their stuff is expensive for the price. The quality generally seems to be okay, though.
I guess you're paying more for the design rather than construction.

That's the measurement of the garment itself. Should be at least 3 cm under.

Of Elegy? I have a blouse and JSK and both are great quality. I bought them secondhand though, so I can't speak about her customer service or anything like that. If you're asking about the OP here's the only photo I could find of the velvet version. I imagine the cotton will have more drape.

Has anyone bought from Baumhaus on etsy? I think pic related would be cute for otome, but I've heard almost nothing about them and found them by accident.
The dress looks a little wonky on the dressform, but I don't know if that's bad sewing or just a bad dressform.

The sizing is a little bigger than my mannequin so it hung a little weirdly. I've had someone buy a dress but I'm actually super nervous and waiting for them to get it and I'm hoping they will review it either if it's positive or negative I'll take it and maybe decide if doing this on the side thing is for me or aim to improve, it was my first custom size order too. With the anxious feeling I keep thinking I fucked up part of it and she's gonna hate it but I've improved some of the details from the initial prototype in terms of finishing so I just don't know. I mainly just wanna be open though if there are any issues, I lurk /cgl/ often and check messages on etsy often too.

Anyway, less personal blog, I took some outdoor light photos for some postcards so I hope this gives you a better idea than it on a mannequin. I forgot to do up the corset lacing at the back though so not as tight to the body as it could've been.
>>
>>8697486
Thanks.

>>8697703
Idk and idc, I just want it. I feel like if I offer money for an item, people can either sell it to me or choose not to.
>>
Haenuli confirmed for xbox lolita brand. I bought their XL and it can easily fit a 50+ inch bust. I'm pretty fat, but that's a bit ridiculous.
>>
>>8700260
im a fatty and i appreciate the sizing options, but i always feel really weird spending $200+ on an indie brand. They've certainly proved their quality but i dunno.. it still feels weird.
>>
>>8700284
Totally worth it imo. Their fabric is thick and the jellyfish OP had both printed cotton blend and chiffon. The shirring was sturdier than most brand too. I'd consider haenuli up there with krad lanrette for quality.
>>
>>8700284
>>8700312
I feel like if Haenuli originated in Japan rather than Korea, people would just straight-up call it brand.

It's damn good.
>>
>>8700333
Nah, it would still be considered high quality indie. It's not quite ubiquitous enough to be considered to be part of the western burando canon yet imo. Granted, our assignation of what is brand brand and what is indie brand is a bit arbitrary sometimes.
>>
>>8700339
I figure it would be considered on the level of chantilly, though I prefer haenuli's fabric choice more.
>>
>>8700333
Nah I dunno. Even the prints are..there's much to be desired. Baby and AP have artists that do really amazing drawings that look very storybook-like most of the time. Unforunately Meta seems to be going to way that these indie brands go. The art with indie brands just seems... off? Not sure if it's just the vectoring at times or just the blatent use of stock images rather than creating something original.

Sometimes the difference between indie and brand to me is the difference between a really good painter and someone who just learned to use the dodge and burn tool in photoshop.
>>
>>8700347
I'm not a big fan of their prints. Maybe it's because I haven't seen them in person or something, but something about a lot of them just feels like they're missing something. Also don't like the super long bodices that they used to do either, which is a shame because a lot of their cuts are super nice otherwise.
>>
>>8700365
>Unforunately Meta seems to be going to way that these indie brands go
I always wondered why so many people liked Meta so much. They produce a couple gems each year, but most of their designs just seem crude and badly thought out. Their recent prints look like clipart collages and s many design elements in the cuts just look off.

Also, does anyone know what the current status of Vierge Vampur is?

I think they may have fixed it? I lined up the top of my baby jsk with the shoulers of my haenuli OP and the OP is mayyybe a half inch longer in the torso. It being a lot larger in the measurements makes it sit an inch lower on me, but flat is almost the same. Please excuse the wrinkles on my jsk. (I haven't taken it to dry cleaning after halloween yet)

Meta has always been really offbeat when it comes to their designs (Hello military anon and teddy motors anon!), so it's not a surprise there. But the quality of the art is very different lately. Around 2007-10 seemed to be their best time as far as composition and coloring goes.

whereas now they seem to just find whatever they can and vector it and try to make the colors look not TOO muddy.

I still love meta, they are my favorite brand. but their art isnt as good as it once was. I wonder if they just hired a new artist to do this for cheap, since it's pretty easy to just vector things.
>>
>>8700333

If it makes any difference, when Haenuli came out with their first few prints I couldn't help but notice I have the exact same images in some of my stock art books. It's not plagiarism or replicas, mind you, because the stock art book is meant to be used as stock art, it's just the same argument people sometimes throw at JetJ or Ophanim being just a bunch of clipart thrown together, it feels a bit like cheating or soemthing.

Bread anons, I've been periodically looking at the Taobao listing just in case the seller updates it with new information and I saw that a new review was posted yesterday from someone who had just gotten theirs. It looks like there's still hope!
>>
>>8700236
Ahh thank you Baumhaus anon! Maybe a weird question, but would you be able to upload a photo of the dress laid out flat on the etsy listing? I want to see it like that but it might also help other people see it better, too.
>>
>>8700236
I know this feel. Your mannequin (and mine. And PepFox's, too.) is one of those ones that's just slightly too petite for real human clothing to sit properly, haha.
You can try pinning your dresses at the back to make them fit the mannequin proportionately!

On the topic of Peppermint Fox, how often do they restock? I am all about their brooches and pins but I seem to miss out any time they update.
>>
>>8700720
Also on the topic of Peppermint Fox:

How many pieces of each item do they usually produce/sell?
I saw a LM listing of their Tea Society jsk the other day which said "One of only 20 made." but that seems.. Low? Considering their popularity.
>>
>>8699676
I think Ista Mori releasing it for $200 on storenvy artificially inflated the value of it. So one on hand you've got the girls who got it for 80 bucks on taobao and also the ones who bought it for the inflated price and trying to get back what they paid
>>
>>8700333
No way. Haenuli's cuts/sizing is too bizarre and their prints are way too amateurish. They have some good stuff but I wouldn't call it burando quality by a mile. I think other Korean brands have better designs and quality, too.

>>8700400
If they have, their listed measurements don't support that. I've been turned off by at least 2 releases the past year because their listed bodice lengths were waaay too long for me, compared to any other brands I buy. I am short, granted- but I highly doubt their bodice lengths on recent releases are the same as brand, based on their size charts.
>>
>>8700721
I think they've gone back to sewing every piece themselves, so 20 sounds about right. They had a run last year that was bigger but had a lot of flaws, which I think were done at a factory (the crown print? I can't remember the name off the top of my head).

If you subscribe to their email newsletter or like the FB page, they usually give at least a week warning to when they restock.

>>8700721
All the collections they self produced were all limited runs of around 20.

>>8701469
From Tea Emblem onwards, they are working with a new local seamstress (compared to the overseas manufacture disaster that was Crowning Glory II)
I was at the anniversary tea party and can say construction has improved immensely, and really worth the slight price increase.
This collection will definitely have more peices available, but how many more I'm not sure.
