QUESTION: Considering boystyle garments are mostly pure black sweat traps, how do you coord for outdoor summer meets?
>>8546384
I'm trying to start up an aristocrat wardrobe but I have no idea what I should invest in first. Any suggestions? I figured I could get away with a well tailored dress pant and a locally purchases button up for now. Should I get a vest or a jacket as my big ticket item?
>>8546423
that's not a bad idea. for aristo i would try to get a jacket or coat first, then a blouse. these tend to have the littlest in common with normalfag fashion.
casual summery bump
bro, how does it feel to have reached meme status?
Just contributing.
And another one. That's all I got on mobile so far.

Should I try to save for an AATP piece or Atelier? I also heard taobao might have some aristocratic men's wear. Thought I'm not quite familiar with ordering through them.
Sorry for being such a novice! I appreciate the help!
>>8548823
i haven't found much on Taobao that impressed me, but i have only been buying for less than a year, and i have only checked Taobao resellers. Atelier Boz stuff is the nicest and comfiest brand that i have handled, and AatP is also very good. i would recommend them over Taobao for quality, aristo aesthetics, and comfort.
however, the advantage a taobao shop might have is their ability to do custom sizing. if you have shoulders wider than 40-45cm, ordering through a taoabao shop that can customize might be your best option. Fan+Friend is also used by people who are too big for Asian clothing, but i have no experience with them.
if brand new brand is too expensive, stalk second hand sites. fortunately most brands have English names so you can search without knowing Japanese, and use a browser translator to figure things out. right now Maidenclothing has a LOT of aristo-looking jackets, might be worth your time to see if any fit your measurements and budget: http://www.maidenclothing.net/s/search/?f6=&type=6&f14=&search=1
>>8548883
right now the very first result is an h. Naoto coat with fucking amazing detail and a shoulder width of 48cm (19 inches, wide not around). if i had any money i would have bought it by now - the h. Naoto i own is really nice, and this coat is like 80 bucks (before shopping service fees and shipping ofc).
pic related, some of the detailing. somebody buy this and wear it well please.
>>8548823
sorry for being Overly Helpful, but if you have a Facebook, join Ouji Sales. someone is selling a men's Boz Ryan jacket for $110, which is a good deal.

I'm a lone fem ouji, but I wear it outside a lot, and I tend to wear offbrand short sleeved blouses and no/light outerwear. I also wear full-sized hats so I don't need a wig and I get some portable shade, and I tend to wear loose boots without socks that show.
Last, I always bring a water bottle. It may not be cute, but it's essential for health.
>>8550800
He's wearing that set really well. Good silhouette.
another handmade ouji set, designs by Sasa who is also wearing it.

you're welcome! come back with any questions.
>pic unrelated, just another Japanese coord
>>8550800
God I love this guy and his twin so much. They're so perfect.
>>8554790
I don't get many reactions, but they're generally positive. I've had a few people say "I like your style" or "you look cute", but I'm a tiny girl, so it's kind of to be expected. I may be congenitally unable to pull off mature stuff, but I at least don't get the stink eye.
>>8554849
well, that's good.
>congenitally unable to pull off mature stuff
i dunno, cute and tiny in maturer styles has a unique appeal. Buttcape is petite and makes military look kawaii.
I would love to be able to wear ouji daily. I just don't know how to coord simple things very well. On top of that, I don't have a lot of blouses that don't have crazy amounts of ruffles.
Any idea where I can get some blouses that aren't super expensive and aren't super flashy? Short sleeves are preferred since it's hot out.
>>8555401
if you look on secondhand shops, Rakuten, etc., you can get good general jfash blouses from BPN/BPN for Men, Putumayo, Deorart, and Algonquins. many h. Naoto sub-brands can also work for casual coords.
check the usual suspects: closetchild, Maidenclothing, Alice Fururun, etc.
pic related: Putumayo short-sleeved blouse. you can also do an interesting cutsew for an even casualer look.
>>8555487
i posted pic related to the last thread, but it is an example of a casual ouji coord from one of the Japanese coord-sharing sites.
>>8555487
Thanks for the info!
I'm going to check those stores/brands out when I get paid. I haven't bought anything second hand except from FB sales or LJ sales, so this will be a nice change.

i just found this blog post from buttcape about the BPN designers: http://buttcape.blogspot.de/2014/02/bpn-is-back.html?m=1
i knew one had moved to Sheglit, which only does ladies' sized things and so is not something i can wear. however, the other two brands supposedly do have men's sizes, and Elements,H does international shipping.
>>8563341
MiDiom does menswear. some items seem good for casual boystyle.
http://midiom-store.com
>>8563348
elements,H has stuff like pic related, which has a waist of 82cm (i wear size 30 US and fit best into 80cm Japanese).
their official site is elementsh.jp and the resell site looks like it has fuck all: http://www.cooljapanstore.com/default.php?manufacturers_id=109&sort=0a&page=1

Did anyone else see this set pop up on tumbr?
>Little Dipper is currently taking reservations for this ouji set until September 20th, 2015. They need 100 orders of each set to produce them, so reserve yours now! It looks like Clobbaonline is able to take reservations for this set for only $69.95 shipped in the US.
I kind of want the blue or green, but it doesn't seem like Clobba has a preorder yet? Sorry, I'm pretty new to everything, but will Clobba have a preorder eventually or is there any other way to preorder it?
>>8564565

>excited about lolita and boystyle

anyone interested in chats outside this thread?
about me: i have a modest ouji and aristocrat wardrobe (mostly second-hand brand with a couple new items). my daily wear is fantasy-influenced goth/corporate goth. when i am more skilled with makeup i will be getting into shironuri.
my favorite brands are MmM, alice auaa, h. Naoto, and Boz.
other interests include goth shit, horror movies, strange movies and tv, anime and cartoons, anthropology, speculative fiction, linguistics, constructed languages and cultures and worlds, writing, crafting, androgyny, and self-improvement.
i want to chat with other boystylers (also those who dabble in it) about the fashion, and about lifestyle elements related to it. i think it would be cool to just straight up invent an "ouji culture" Calvinball-style but i have no major expectations, just this whimsical idea of chatting about fancy or weird shit with other boystylers. i used to have many goth friends and i miss that type of individualistic but aesthetically unified subculture.
my throwaway email is [email protected]. if this interests you but you don't feel like 4chan is where you want to discuss it, hit me up.
>>8565568
Whereabouts are you located, as far as time zone? I'd be up for talking to more ouji-inclined folks but if we're on opposite sides of the world it might be difficult. I'm in GMT-5.
Unrelated question, I just got AatP's White Rabbit Salo in black x gold and I'm floundering when it comes to headwear. I was thinking top hat but I'm having a hard time finding a nice one that's not full price AatP. What are y'all's favorite sources for ouji headwear (a lot of the shops linked in Buttcape's guide are now defunct) and does anyone have alternative suggestions for this salo? All my legwear is black x white, and I'll be wearing black shoes. I can either go with gold crown accessories, or black & white clock accessories.
>>8564565
Yeah just email clobba. I've ordered from them before and they're super friendly.
Just curious, why is almost all ouji black/navy/other dark colour? I don't mean it should be pastel or something but little brighter colours would be nice.
>>8565568
I'm still upset that the friending thread got deleted.
>>8568593
i'm guessing because those who wear it in Japan (the primary demographic) prefer the gothic look. there is still overlap with visual kei for ouji in a way that lolita does not have.
>tfw want to start wearing ouji or aristo
>tfw overall petite frame but thunder thighs
I guess I'll just stick to lolita. Sigh.
>>8570623
pumpkin pants and jodhpurs, anon.
boystyle stuff tends to always come in ladies' sizing, too.
>>8567819
i am also GMT-5 (eastern standard), in the greater NYC zone.
as for headwear, i have many hats, but only a few suitable for ouji. one is a boater i got for 1k yen off of yahoo japan auctions, one is a widebrimmed felt hat i picked up at a renfaire (plan to decorate it into a bicorner or tricorner hat), one is an excellent top hat from a gothic store that no longer sells them, and one is a greek fisherman's cap off of eBay. i have also purchased fairly decent top hats and bowler hats off of Amazon for cheap - read the descriptions and reviews to find the best bang for your buck.
to ouji-ify hats, i have ribbon, chain, pins, etc. so far i have worn my boater plan, and my top hat with a scarf tied around it to give flounce in the back.
when i am less sleep deprived i will return to this issue. i notice many boystylers skipping headwear and i would like to lay out my impressions and strategies on the subject.
>>8572493
>ladies size
You clearly don't have big thighs if you want to reccomend that. It's always better to go for the men's as they are a bit bigger.
>>8570623
I wish there was more info on what runs large or small out there for this stuff for that reason, it is hard to tell you what will fit and what wont. You are best to look at stuff that is looser and stuff that already is poofy in the butt such as pumpkin shorts, but you may get into an issue of that the cuff is tight even if your thighs physically fit into the shorts. I find that 'lolita brands' tend to have the worst sizing for ouji, IW pants are worse than their dresses for shirring and Aatp doesnt seem to care about if you have hips. But brands that are not so well known for lolita tend to be far better in terms of fit, Boz, Ozz On, BPN, Putamayo, etc all seem to be more accomdating.
>>8568593
I kinda feel like its because guys dont have a lot of variables for formal wear. Black, white and navy seem to be the choices on colors. It doesn't help that a lot of the brands do gothic leaning stuff anyways so it flows to keep with those colors.
>>8572503
ah, i assumed that ladies' would allow for curves since they often specify both waist and hip size (with the hip size being much larger).
there is shapewear to compress thighs/ass but i do not know how effective it would be.
>pic unrelated

i got you fam.
will try to keep away from aristo.
alternate suggestion #1: wear really high boots with breeches, like the ouji on the right.
>>8581649
and now on to what you actually asked for.
to me, the key to keeping an ouji look with longer pants is a matter of adding flair or flamboyancy to the outfit. where aristocrat is restrained and mature, ouji is playful and sometimes extravagant.
>>8581652
dunno how long these pants are since they are, again, tucked into high boots.

Where can I buy cheap ouji clothes?
>>8584146
what's your size and definition of cheap?
>>8584146
Bodyline had a couple breeches/shorts for super cheap during their 1000 sale, they're surprisingly decent for how ridiculously cheap they were. With some alterations they are quite nice. I'm not sure how much are they selling for now that Bodyline has a new website tho.
I read that you might get lucky thrifting as well. mainly for blouses. Also seen a couple vests and blouses for cheap on ebay actions that could be altered nicely for ouji.
don't do this to yourself bro. wear clothes that fit.
the coord is fine but not on this body. come the fuck on, have some dignity. not everyone can fit brand; that is why Taobao exists.
>>8586754
I think limiting the colors might be better on this coord

>>8591525
Yeah he teaches fitness classes. He's just got broad shoulders and shit.
Is it really hard to find vests/pants that fit an 80cm waist or is it just me.
Also is it a fashion faux pas if the buttons are on the wrong side for a blouse/vest/jacket. As I tend to find a nice item but the buttons are almost always on the left hand side. Not sure if I should wear it if I am male.
I want to know if its something you should strictly stay away from, or you can get away with some exceptions.
This is mainly for ouji/EGA for a male.
>>8593934
the buttons do not matter. a woman's cut might have room for boobs, and might have a more tapered waist. if it fits you, the side the buttons are on is not important.
i also have trouble finding things with an 80cm waist. 78 is my minimum, 80cm is comfy.
I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I couldn't find a coord help thread. Baby's first ouji! Does anyone have a better headgear option?
>>8595133
with those boots, you could push the coord toward equistrian or military themes. however, the flouncy blouse makes me think pirate.

That's a rerelease of their Vargossa coat, which has been rereleased several times. It's a really nice coat in person, and is comfy to wear. The metallic trim versions are a bit scratchy, but much nicer in the solid black. The trim clusterfuck is the Hugin jacket: http://www.babyssb.co.jp/onlinestore/p11jk305/.
I recently bought the mens' size Tourinot vest from AATP for the torso length and waist measurement (as the ladies size runs rather small). Problem is however that it's rather baggy at the side-front panels below my bust (which isn't big), but above where the back panel joins the front. Has anyone else had this issue?
>>8581665
It looks great. Navy and black can look amazing. That no navy with black rule is bullshit if you know how to balance it out.

>>8605712
Looks like a hot mess to me. There's nothing prince-ly about it. Definitely very hobo.
What makes a good ouji shirt? From what I've seen, high collars and long sleeves tend to be really popular, but as someone just getting into it, are there certain things that should be avoided? For instance, pic related are the three shirts I'm trying to choose from (all in white) for my first basic piece, but I'm not sure if I'm even on the right path.
>>8607584
I personally love the first one, the other too seem a bit "too feminine" but hey, pieces that might seem inappropriate by themselves might work well if coorded right.
Though if you're trying to choose one for your first basic piece, I'd go for the first one or I'd look for something similar but without that neck ruffle, so it can work for more casual/simple coords or something more "dressy" when acessorized/layered.
>>8605712
It's cute but as the other anon said, just get some alice auaa, much less costumey and better quality. Second hand it might not even cost more than AatP.

I have everything I need and I think it would be fun, but I feel like people would dox me to fuck my career over or something.
My union isn't a big fan of letting people make videos that promote products or anything. I'm a nobody, but they would see my videos as a performance and 'acting' for free is basically against the rules.
I think I have the tools necessary to succeed at tutorials and guides/intros to the fashion and all that, but lolita are fickle and sometimes terrifying creatures.
>>8636632
that sucks. but if it's just you discussing a fashion, i would hope that wouldn't be seen as "acting for free." though i do realize now that i cannot think of any actors that also do YouTube videos, though many may do Vine or whatever.
it's social media, and not a threat to any other actor. i mad on your behalf.
>>8636632
Put on a mask.
>>8636632
>I feel like people would dox me to fuck my career over or something.
also: people's careers are sometimes discussed, but usually only by drama llamas who do not take it beyond the gossip stage. if lolitas had the power to "dox" anyone and ruin their careers, i can think of several hated persons who would have been targeted already.
the union thing is probably a bigger concern...
>>8637059
a mask matched to a coord would actually be a good concept.
this coord from CoF makes black x white look entirely not butler-kei

i am up late preparing for RuffleCon. what are some /ouG/ films?
currently watching Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. before that i watched Julie Taymor's Titus and coveted every coat i saw. what would you gulls recommend?
>>8643794
also looking forward to the gothic aristocrat-ish eyefeast of Crimson Peak
what's your favorite ouji accessory?
i collect hats and socks
i am glad that technotropism exists.

i really want some cool fur collar stuff but i am a pleb and will go after cool main pieces and never be able to balance out the rest of the outfit
Thoughts on shorts length? I have stupid hips and a tiny waist so I'm making my own, so I'm wondering what length I should go. Right now I have over knee, but I know the short ones are seen more on girls. Just wondering if they're just rare or not as nice looking.
>>8650767
It's preference and depends on what look you're going for. Shorter is going to be more cutesy and feminine. I think it should be roughly knee length in general, shorter depending on whether or not you want skin to show while wearing OTKs.
>>8650808
I don't care too much about skin showing, but I do want to show off my OTKs. I was going for something more boyish than normal... right to the knee might be good.
did anyone get this? i did not know it was going on sale and it is now sold out.

Any aliexpress ouji stores?

How to coord casual-(n)ouji like this? Without hat and accessories it'd look like something that you'd see on street.
>>8656635
>casual
>something that you'd see on street
Problem being?
>>8655604
Oh god, when I'm 50 I want to be an old aristocrat lady with a husband who dresses like this
>>8656711
But what does make it 'ouji'-casual? I'd like to learn more about ouji and other boystyles so maybe one day I could wear them too.
>>8656726
The pants, socks and shoes. And hair.
>>8656726
like casual lolita, which uses things like cutsews (nice tshirts, often fitted or with fanciful trim) and a less-poofy petti, casual ouji strips down the aspects of regular ouji that make it difficult to wear daily.
using shorts, breeches, etc., with high socks would be a good place to start if you are just starting out.
another method is to take a regular ouji coord, identify what makes it a bit formal for everyday wear, and replace those elements, while maintaining a flattering fit for your body. a nice hoodie instead of a swallowtail jacket, or a cutsew instead of a blouse; a newsboy cap instead of a top hat; trainers or funky shoes instead of heeled leather boots.
you can also find long knit gilets to replace more formal jacquard/brocade ones (like pic related). the long vest is a key style for many ouji, and brands like Black Peace Now, Ozz On/Ozz Croce, and Gadget Grow make a lot of knit long gilets that you can pair with shorts fitted near the knee for an insta-casual ouji coord.
>>8657087
pic related is from Sixh. i do not like the pattern, but it is an example of a long vest that is "dressed down" and suitable for casual ouji. it is on Tokyo Alice for 2,800 yen.
two sweet ouji coords from collageanon

>>8657107
another option: substitute the formal jabot with an informal tie or scarf. pic related is a Putumayo scarf on y!ja for 1,800 yen. the trump pattern is common in ouji so you could build a coord with other trump accessories.

Arrived at Tenso today.
Unsure I should ask here or in the wig general but where should I look for ouji appropriate wigs?
I'm still very much in the beginning of building my ouji wardrobe, I have things in the mail for my first coordinate so I'm not very keen on spending a lot of money on a wig, when I still need to work on buying main pieces but I'd like to find something to go with my first coord for now.
Any suggestions? I know Cyperous seems to be a favorite but they're way too expensive for me atm so I was wondering if any ouji on a tight budget here had any luck finding wigs. Thanks!
Where do you all buy your vests from? I'm in need of a solid royal blue vest for a coord but am struggling to find one that goes with it.
>>8659046
exciting! can you post pics/video of the haul?
>>8659111
i have gotten compliments on my Arda Wigs, which i get in short styles on clearance for around 15 USD.
i tried out Lockshop's Prince wig (available from Lolita Collective) but it is a bit long and fluffy and my wig styling skills are noob-level. it is a nice wig, but i will most likely go back to Arda for my next one for a precut and cheaper style.
>>8659159
i buy from second hand places. if you are looking for a particular color, you might have luck with F+F, Bodyline, or a Taobao store. i have not tried those personally, though.
what is your shoulder and bust size? have you ordered outside of your country before?
>>8659111
Most ouji that have nice wigs usually style them themselves. I think you should try to get some styling techniques or look into cosplay wigs, sometimes they have nice wigs in different styles.
>>8659555
Thank you! I've been wanting to try Arda and Lockshop but I'm not in the US and the shipping costs always end up putting me off. I'll think I'll try looking for anyone selling them secondhand in my country.
>>8659806
Thank you! I'll have a look around cosplay wigs and have a go at styling it myself in case I can't find anything else. I'm a little out of practice styling wigs, since I haven't cosplayed in a while but I'll give it a go!

>>8663089

>>8663089
You mean engineer boots?
>>8663128
ive checked pretty thoroughly ebay, and even gave taobao a shot. I even looked at some womens boots but they dont come in my size ofc. I have also never used taobao, im pretty new to this as you can tell.

now i know the name, thanks anon
this the back of a promo for Atelier Boz's new coat worn over a lolita coord. i want a coat that is this long, with tiered layers. i wonder if i can cut open a skirt to attach to a jacket or coat for a similar look. remove a panel perhaps, to transform it into a buttcape?
>>8664666
the actual length of the coat for comparison. i really want a full, multilayered coat though. kind of jealous of what lolita and femme aristo can do with their skirts and pettis.

When does sailor ouji become just sailor?
>>8668348
when it wears long pants, starts cursing, and sets up a still in the engine room
>>8669712
Excellent answer, thank you anon.

np.
on that note, i did not know Triple Fortune released an oujo set, much less sailor ouji. it is not my style but i thought some salty gull might appreciate it.
