Hey there seagulls. I'm not to well versed with how smaller cons tend to operate, but I'm concerned about touhoucon 2016. There's no listed dates or anything indicating that it's in the works. Hell, all their official outlets haven't been active since around September. Is this par for the course for small cons, or is it likely that we won't be seeing touhoucon again?
>>
After the hotel thing, Bryan's been ignoring everyone.
There's probably not enough funds for next year, they didn't even make it in the clear this year apparently.
>>
>>8819519
Hotel thing? Mind elaborating?
>>
>>8819561
From what I remember, they overestimated attendance and other things and I think couldn't pay the hotel back in full, hotel started charging people randomly, and a big mess happened.

I've also heard rumors that there's a lawsuit involved now, against the hotel if I remember right, and that's why they got so quiet. So it's hard to tell what's really going on here now. Personally I was wouldn't call Touhoucon totally dead yet but 2016 isn't gonna happen. Maybe back for 2017. I'm still sad about it though, it had issues but was probably the best time I think I'll ever have at a con. Was so nice to have fun with a hotel full of other Touhous and people like ARM.
>>
Let's make our own touhou con, then. Who else /Midwest/ here
>>
>>8819567
Well, that's a bummer, but at least there's still some hope. I'm with you on the experience though- no doubt one of, if not the best con experience I've ever had. Seeing Marasy perform was stellar.

>>8819571
Unfortunately /westcoast/, with no experience or cash to organize a con with.
>>
>>8819571
I'm /south/ but was gonna go to ACEN this year actually.

>2hucon is most likely kill for this year

shit. I was really looking forward to cosplaying my first 2hu at the con this year. Last year was really fun. Looks like i'll have to just do it at AX.
>>
>>8819746
I cosplay 2hu for everything. I even wear the shitty bodyline costumes for Halloween lol. I don't care if no one gets it, I love cutehus

I've been wanting to cosplay a cutehu for like 3 years but always do something else for some reason. This year for sure tho. Most likely being Sakuya.
>>
if 2hucon really is dead, will those people who bought the $999 get their money back?
>>
>>8819859
Did they sell lifetime passes for $999 or something?
>>
>>8820171
Yep
>>
>>8820171
>>8820192
Did anyone actually end up buying those?

Sucks about what happened, at least there's still Fanime. There's no real reason to think that Touhoucon is coming back, nor should it unless they start being a lot more transparent what's going on and make the changes needed to gain back people's confidence. There's rumours that they'll be a kickstarter/something campaign to raise funds, but why would people give money to those who've already proven to be so loose with cash in the first place?
>>
>>8820247
I think around 7-8 people bought them, and this was the first year they sold them too.

Shame, Touhoucon was one of the few conventions I was willing to travel to the USA for after college. I hope it does come back eventually. Meanwhile... I guess touhou thread?
>>
>>8820247
>those who've already proven to be so loose with cash in the first place?
i thought they just didn't fill in enough rooms in their block and had to pay a penalty for it, or did they take a lot of their funds for a cocaine and hookers fueled weekend in vegas?
>>
>>8820354
According to the fb group, their attendance numbers were far below expectation, which is why they couldn't pay the hotel.

It could work, as long as you keep to a cogent theme and avoid just piling on random gear. Post apoc will be challenging though, since the very idea is that you are bodging together most of your gear from usable scrap.

Well getting that big influx of Japanese guests to a second year con couldn't have helped with things, nor that awful nine day badge deal (how could anyone have thought that wasn't anything more than a sign of desperation that wouldn't have lasting negative effects is beyond me).

The con itself was incredible, but the lack of good long term planning/reasonable spending just killed it, I guess.

Gorgeous cosplay! Where did you get the bow, or did you make it? I'm cosplaying Akagi from Kancolle so looking for something similar.
>>
>>8820416
I've been wanting to cosplay clownpiece but I'm so worried the design will look retarded irl
>>
>>8820832
It's made from pvc pipes which I bent with a heatgun for form the limbs of the bow. I filled out the tops with polymer clay and used cotton twine for the bowstring. The limbs of the bows are joined in the middle via another section of pvc pipe with a slightly larger diameter so the bow can be dismantled for easy transport. The entire thing is painted with acrylic paint and sealed in mod podge
>>
>>8820835
Isn't that the entire point? The only one who looks possibly more trashy is Hecatia.
>>
>>
>>8820835
>thinking clownpiece won't look retarded
the fact you are worried in the first place speaks enough
>>
I think the trick is to make it so garish it looks... good? Debatable tactic to be honest
>>
>>8819513
I assumed no Touhoucon 2016 after the fiasco was announced. They're too in debt right now. Hoping for 2017 if they get their shit together

It could just be a small meetup. One of the cons in malaysia does exactly that. The organiser creates a event with a sizable number of events obviously catering to touhou fans (because he is one himself). It could be possible to add a rider event onto a larger one as a collaboration. Hell, you could even get guests who can cater to both sides, last i checked, TAM, Marasy, Yuuhei and a number of other circles do stuff outside of touhou that may be relevant to the interests of other congoers

Oh hey I know things about this.

Yeah...there's probably not going to be a Touhoucon this year. The heads are running away from everything, and all I've been hearing is bad news...really sucks though because if everything was fine, we probably would've gotten ZUN. All the guests really seemed to enjoy themselves and they were the testers for him. There was ALOT of bullshit though, with common sense organization that just didn't get executed well, which is what pretty much pissed me and my friends off; otherwise, it was all fucking fun as shit. Maybe a bigger dealers with more Touhou related things, but if you have the ability to make your own fun, then it was one of the best cons I've been to.

>>
>>8822997
Totally losing it over the bunnies. I want to copy that cosplay just as an excuse to invest in white fluffy bunny plushes.
>>
>>8823159
There are people who want to bring it back come 2017. Said people are still working on getting those charged refunded.
>>8823269
At con issues included many volunteers not showing and those lesser in hierarchy acting against those higher in hierarchy to get what needed done done.
Before the con, there were big issues in hierarchy that go back months before the con. The end result of that was certain people were put in charge of key decision making and they pursued too many guests of honor, aimed for and expected more than double the attendee amount of 2014, and reserved too many hotel rooms in that expectation.

>>8823159
Possibly. One of the other heads wants to take over, so if they can get there shit together.

>>8823269
From what I saw myself, there was a lot of panels that started waaayy later then they were supposed to because people didn't have their shit together, and the security staff didn't communicate with each other very well because I witnessed myself seeing people be moved from one location to another and then back again....and then holy shit day zero was a fucking mess because I think it was the operations manager that showed up late and didn't respond to anyone on what to do until he showed, so they had to put staffers at random locations with hardly any info on what we were supposed to be doing....me and the other ambassadors were supposed to be hype people for the guests, but they sent us to the info desk giving us no info on what we were supposed to be telling guests.
>>
>>8824292
Pretty much everything including concerts was at least 30 minutes late.
>>
>>8824964
Not to mention how generally not on time and poorly run the video game room was this year.
>>
>>8824292
I felt so bad for the people put at the info desk. They didn't know anything and looked so overwhelmed. I remember we got sent three different places looking for the cosplay gathering.
