I want more followers, I like my photos but can't get new followers or more favs so I want advice/tips, please.

That you like them unfortunately doesn't mean that other people will also like your photos.
If you do it for the followers: try to find out what content gets the most attention and is liked most, then do more of that. Use the right hashtags.
If you want more specific concrit, post your IG or some of your photos, and we can tell you what you could improve.

Make sure you're tagging appropriately. Spamming irrelevant tags is not only useless but puts people off liking or following.
Interact with users you like. I mean, be genuine about it, don't just spam "kawaiiii" on all of their photos, but little interactions can make someone interested in your insta, especially if you're nice.
Also don't go onto someone's profule and like the last 50 photos they've posted, I have two people who keep doing that every month or so and even if I was interested in their instas, doing that would put me off completely because it's so attention grabby.
Bottom line: tag appropriately, take clear photos, interact with others, and stay away from desperate behavior or follow4follow shit.

I started my IG specifically for my commercial art and whatever physical goods related to it. It's mostly cohesive, simple and 'cute girls doing cute things' stuff - You know the sort.
But now I want to post more 'personal project' art; More elaborate prints, various WIPs, character designs and world-building for the novel I'm working on.
I should probably make a second one, right? Leave the original cohesive and focused only on the store?

Oh god please don't do this. Nothing makes me hate you more than when a notification pops that says I have 50 new likes.... and they are all from the same damn person. And then they don't even follow me. Instagram rolled out their post "filtering" where they hide most posts and only show ones they think you're interested in on your feed. Sort of how facebook hides less popular posts or posters you haven't liked recently. No doubt they will soon roll out a service where you can pay for you post to show on all your followers' feeds.

Personally I've noticed that selfies don't get you followers unless your some kind of gene pool queen, but your fans will comment on those photos. New costume announcements and impressive progress as far as Cosplay goes brings in pretty good traffic.
On a personal note. Being insta famous is funny. I remember one person in my community was a well known furry. She posted a picture of a trash can and #trash and within minutes had hundreds of likes and a bunch of comments. You just gotta know how to appeal to your com I guess.

Depends. I hate hashtags in long texts, but find them very convenient in outfit rundowns. Your short example text sounded ok, but I would like it the same if the hashtags were listed after the text.

My instagram is a personal social media page for personal content so I'm not sure why some of these anons are so buttfrustrated by accounts that don't have a central 'theme'. My IG theme is "stuff I wanted to share a photo of". IMO you're right that as long as your goal isn't to have as many followers as possible it doesn't matter if you don't stick to a confining ~aesthetic~, and it's perfectly fine to post whatever it is you feel like sharing.

Plus to me it's pretty boring if all your photos are the same filter of one thing like all dress shots or all moody goth stuff. I'd much prefer to follow someone who tosses in personal touch stuff instead of just "Here's an instagram that's 100% generic goth/lolita/pastel stuff" because if you follow one of them, you wouldn't want to follow any more because it's basically seen one, seen them all. But on the flipside I'd follow a bunch of lolita/cosplayer/Jfashion accounts that had those themes mixed in with everyday stuff they had going on.

I use a 3rd party app to post to my socials all at once so my photos go to instagram, tumblr, FB, Twitter and a few others so I keep hashtags limited to 5 or under (that's all tumblr counts, first 5) and my description in 2 or less short sentences so Twitter doesn't cut it badly. Decent quality clear photos (yes good phone or tablet is ok but learn basic photography skills) with some sort of theme tying them together even if it is a personal lifestyle insta. Truthfully, most people's amateur photography 'this is my life' instagrams aren't that interesting to follow unless they have something people want to learn, see, keep up with.
People can say all they want how they don't even care if their photos have a theme or say they just want to post their own random stuff but unless you really are just making your Instagram for yourself only, and don't care at all about followers, not many people want to follow a bunch of "lol, so randum" stuff with no visible theme or at least something to make it coherent and keep it interesting enough to make you want to come back.
I post daily coords, though I feel like my style is pretty inconsistent, to be honest. I've wondered for a while whether it's off-putting to have random square pictures among my usual double-me posts?

I really only follow art and cosplay accounts. A few fashion ones thrown in but mostly other artists. I don't get too nitpicky about people posting food or things like that unless it's nonstop. My Instagram isn't super professional but I'm an artist so I'm not that worried about it and I do try to stick to cosplay and art only with some occasional fashion photos.

It's the ONLY way to get attention. As long as you don't tag every ridiculous bit in a wall of tags, nobody should mind.
Another thing that annoys people sometimes is using tags in the caption text, like, "I'm having so much fun at the #pool with my #bff right now!", so maybe avoid that too if you're nervous.
