Do you guys think gaining fans and "fame" changes cosplayers?

Do you guys think gaining fans and "fame" changes cosplayers?
Does having more fans change the choice of what to cosplay? Have any talented cosplayers changed their style once they became more known? I.e. Dressed more scantily
>>
I have a friend who recently got up to some ten thousands of likes and she completely changed.
She started acting catty with other cosplayers (talking shit about their costumes, etc) and bossy with friends. She became very attention driven and makes every conversation about her.

I hadn't see her in a long time and went to hung out with her at a con. I was carrying a large and very detailed prop and people kept coming up to me and asking questions about it, complimenting my work etc... She started acting annoyed and "jokingly" saying hers gave her more trouble, she spent more time making it and that nobody came up to her to compliment her work.

So unclassy.

I believe fame and praise can change anyone, but yes cosplayers too. They get this feeling of entitlement to being a prick because their fans will eat it up. It's especially bad for people who aren't exactly famous and don't know how to handle so much attention. A(n ex) friend of mine was like that in high school. No one paid any mind to her but when she got popular she turned incredibly two faced and was like a dog doing tricks to make people pet it more.
>>

How did she become popular anyways? I have a catty popular cosplayer frenemy and I'd be very happy to show her that you don't have to act shitty to become cosfamous.
>>
Fame changes everyone, I seen photographers and videographers turn from nice guys into assholes who backstabs others if they can get more likes. I seen cosplayers go from kind to drama queens thinking their shit don't stink.

It takes a special person to deal with attention, and most people are not that type.

After a certain point, I think yes it does change cosplayers. In terms of choice: I think a lot of cosplayers start looking at what their fans might want or doing more of the costumes that get a lot of response.

I think rudeness comes along with it in many cases because they have the pressure, and may feel like they are "better" because of their followers.

She started spamming big cosplay pages and getting feature pretty frequently. Also the photos she sent were usually sexy or scantly clad.
She also changed the tone of her page to a sexier one, posting sexy OC's or underwear versions of characters.

I have nothing against that btw, but clearly it went to her head.

Literally everyone does this now. This is what cosplay has become.

You're exaggerating. Cosplay isn't just sexy twitter feeds or just porn. It's just that those who want to be famous have to pander to what people will pay the most attention to. And that's tits.
>>
>>9032347
That's what the mainstream views cosplay as. I'm ashamed to admit im part of the hobby.

I dont get why everyone thinks like this actually. It's exactly opposite where I live. To become famous you have to have a cute face and loli body and you have to act all innocent and shit. If you cosplay one or two sexy characters by accident people start to call you names and literally no one respects you anymore.

Where do you live, Japan? Though I do agree on the regional aspect.

I personally just closed down my page, but not because lack of fans or anything. Mostly because I post about once a year and thats right before the convention I attend. Also, after 8 years I feel like cosplay is sort of a dwindling interest for me.

Even with all the people who did follow me, I stayed the same.

>Does having more fans change the choice of what to cosplay?

Its changed mine to a degree, I still do things from series that I like, but when I'm planning something questions like 'Is this going to get recognized?' or 'What's going to get the most attention?' do come up.

I've done my share of things that I might be really proud of, but no one recognizes. After a while you get sick of dumping your time and effort into those kinds of projects.

Also if you're going to get any kind of popularity these days with the flood of people posting you have to get extremely lucky, shill yourself constantly, or pay for ads.
>>
There is no fame. Only breast size and how un-disgusting their face is.
It's just an even softer version of softcore porn. For people who have really good imaginations or no internet, I suppose.
>>
I don't think it's so much fame in and of itself which changes people. It's the pursuit of fame which does.

There's a very big difference between someone who, by happenstance, becomes popular doing what they love and someone who actively pursues fame alone. You don't have to be popular to be ruined by the concept just look at all the unpopular, sometimes cringeworthy, cosplayers that get ruined seeking to become famous.

As for whether having more fans changes the choice of what to cosplay it's the same explanation as above. If a person wants more fans they'll do more of what their fans react positively to. The fault for this may be shared between the cosplayer and their fans because the fans collectively facilitate more approval for more scantily dressed cosplay and the cosplayer caves in to pressure.

Part of it may actually also lie in the traditional view of the attractively famous. There's no need to be a mean spirited, but kawaii, bitch yet many people might begin gravitating to this new personality to 'fit in' with who it is they're pretending to be to their fans (aka, someone famous and higher than others).

I think the appeal to these girls over porn is that the guys buying it are into the fantasy of the girls being attractive and having the same geeky hobbies as them. Also the interaction. It almost like a girlfriend experience, since they pay for the sexy private photos and the interaction. You don't get that with porn stars

this pretty much says it all. They can bare tits and try to woo some pathetic beta virgin boys all they want, but they're nobodies in real life. Makes all their marketing scheme useless, doesn't it? (inb4 but they sell prints, to which I say 'oh so they earn a few pocket change. good for them. but that's not a career, silly')
>>
I agree with what a lot have said already. Fans do dictate the cosplays, sadly. If you have a ton of followers and you get more interaction on certain posts (unfortunately, usually it's scantily clad or underwear cosplay) then you're going to gravitate towards those more.

I'm all for playing the game. Look at Yaya and Nigri. They're making enough money now that when they get sick of it, they can quit and still be pretty well off. If you're smart, you can market yourself properly. If not, you'll just end up one of hundreds of people pandering for attention.

I used to really like a small time cosplayer who recently seems to have gotten mildly popular. She's cute, has a great figure and is actually really talented. These days all she posts are slutty underwear shots though. It's really disappointing she isn't using her talent to make flashier costumes, she's definitely capable of it. I think she seems happy which is all that really matters and honestly I am being a bitch even being judgment about it because she can do what she wants, but she definitely got bit by the fame bug.

I think the blame falls more on caring about social media.
It's not just cosplay. People are very easily led and childish about having likes on instagram
