Specifically black feathers, to create something like pic related.
If possible, I'd like naturally black (not dyed) feathers, to keep the iridescent look.
What I've found is that "pointer" feathers and longer types are pretty easy to find, but the plumage that would cover most of the mask is a bit harder to find. And most of the options out there are dyed turkey feathers.
>>8720194 That mask is trimmed turkey flats on the forehead and around the eyes and rooster saddle/hackle/tail feathers on the neck. If you must have iridescent feathers for the small feathers, you can find freeze-dried hen skins sold for fly tying, you'll have to pluck the feathers and they'll be out of scale with a human-sized mask.
a very long time ago when i was a young weeb and my parents took my to cons, i ran into a girl at katsucon who was that guy from dnangel whose name i can't remember right now. she had a huge, amazing, pair of black wings. my dad was talking to her about them and apparently she made them from turkey feathers, and made sure to only use right feathers on the right wing and left feathers on the left wing since there is a difference i was going somewhere with this but now i can't remember
In light of the recent wave of well known Lolitas quitting, I've been thinking a lot about the subject. In almost every instance I've seen of this occurring over my 9 years in the fashion, it is usually someone deciding lolitas are awful and they can't deal with the community, even if the vast majority of attention they get is positive and they don't actually get any severe hate. Often times they also quit the fashion, while simultaneously saying how much they wish they could still wear it and some have said they were "forced" to stop wearing it... Comment too long. >>8718859 Your last bit is something that has perplexed me for years, and has led me to believe that anyone who quits under those circumstances never really loved the fashion that much anyway, and mostly wore it for attention. I mean, it doesn't add up. You wouldn't stop wearing sweaters just because a few people who wear them are awful, it shouldn't be any different.
There must be hundreds of Lolitas who either withdrew from communities or chose not to join them, but who enjoy the fashion as much as anyone else.
>>8718859 people are sensitive. a couple of death threats and "ew ur ugly" messages and its time to leave. keep in mind alot of lolitas have never experienced any type of hate constantly being to sent them. they dont know how to deal with it, instead of dealing with it they would rather quit everything all together. if you ask me though, if you would leave an entire fashion just because a couple of trolls your love for the fashion wasnt very strong to begin with.
>>8718872 Death threats are different than what I'm talking about, I totally get someone leaving the community based on that. I was more talking about people who can't take any criticism, no matter how legit.
>linking all the lolita related threads You are doing gods work anon.
My family will be visiting relatives in Florida for thanksgiving but I have work the next day (recreation not retail thank god) so I can't go. I'll probably dress up in lolita and do something with my bf. No thanksgiving related meets though sadly.
I love seeing these sugary carnival era sweet lolita pictures as the OP images, I'm glad it's not totally kill. I generally refer to it as "2010-12 AP sweet" but is there another way you refer to the vibe it gives off? Like a solid with a square headdress, sugary carnival with a pony bag, and dolly cat with princess sleeves are all sweet, but very different at the same time.
>>8715501 This is my favorite era of lolita, I wish people would stop shitting on it and screaming "ageplay!~" when they all know they were lusting after Milky Planet back then. I don't like when people refer to all 2008-2012 sweet as "OTT sweet" because stuff like the OP pic is what I saw and loved most and it's definitely not OTT. Maybe we should call it something more like "pastel sweet" or "sugary sweet" or something.
What is otome-kei? >Japanese for 'maiden' >Focuses on a feminine and quirky look >No set rules >Outfits often use colour popping, interesting print combinations, and contrasting materials >Generally has a kitsch or twee vibe >Sometimes overlaps with casual lolita but is still a separate style
I fear I'm losing my love for Lolita even though I have more pieces than I ever have. Meets come up and I just let most of them pass unless it's something really elegant or exceptional. I do like to wear plain gothic coords for no special reason when by myself though. Maybe I'm just wanting to go solo and leave the comm idea mostly behind?
There's a girl in a nearby comm that I started talking to. I thought she was cool, and we had a great mutual friend.
But, she lives far away from myself and her best friend.
She was really bitchy at me on Facebook for calling me out on buying my dream dress, because apparently because my family is on food stamps, I cannot have nice things?
So, I slowly took her best friend while she was away on some stupid vacation. She came back to a shit storm of her being a replica chan and left the Lolita community, but is still a massive ita. Her best friend talks... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>8717267 Honestly good on you anon. I had to go on food stamps for a while and if I had completely cut myself off from all "fun" expenses I probably would have gone crazy from stress. I hate it when people don't stop and consider how awful it would feel to be both in need of assistance to feed yourself because of a tough spot and unable to get yourself something nice on occasion.
Are you a lolita or cosplayer? What is your cup size? Are they perky? What is your general body type? Would you say your boobs have hindered your hobby or made it easier? Has lolita or cosplay effected the way you see your boobs? How so? Do you do things like wear binders or stuff your bra for the sake of cosplay accuracy or fitting into a smaller lolita dress? Have you considered drastic measures to reduce or enhance your breast size, like surgery? Are you happy with them?
