There are several ways out. UNDERSTANDING end is the best route for her, where she and Madoka reconcile their responsibilities and needs. A more destructive and fatalistic conflict seems likely and in keeping with the tone of the series.

Unless Urobuchi decides to make Homura the new Sayaka, then I think she'll be fine. The stinger kind of implied the universe wouldn't be whole unless her and Madoka were together anyways. Expect lots of tragedy along the way though.

So if homu actually repeated nearly 100 iterations, let's say between 80 and 100? And the time period is from the 16th when she is released from hospital to the 30th of the next month, that's some 42~46 days of time. That totals between 9 and 12 years. Assuming she's 13 or 14 in the prime timeline, that makes her actual age between 21 and 26 years old, even if the time reset means her physical body doesn't age.

Nah. Her experiences weren't novel enough or a good enough sample of growing up to facilitate emotional or personal development the way years of an ordinary life would have, so she's still effectively 13, just with a wider set of skills and memories than every other 13 year old.

Watching some of these ep 8-9 scenes again to make more sense of the plot really makes it clear how quickly the plot lost its thread with eps 11-12.

What is homura's family like? We never see them. She appears to live alone in that enchanted apartment. But before, she had a heart condition and was in the hospital and had absolutely no initiative, she couldn't have made it on her own back then. So who was taking care of her? Do they notice in the later timelines how she becomes a completely different person literally overnight, no longer needs her glasses and becomes really athletic and goes out at night a lot? She's gotta have someone.

This is intentional. Magical girls are usually the worst off of society. Madoka, and by extension Sayaka, had no business being magical girls. It also makes Madoka's sacrifice in the end that much greater. When Homu became the devil, it doesn't really matter. She had nobody and she ended up with nobody. Her saving grace at this point is Madoka doesn't want to go off by herself and be alone.

I don't think my soul can rest without homura getting some kind of catharsis. Unfortunately I don't see how that can happen now. So I guess I'll just cry myself to sleep for the rest of my life.

It's a one bedroom apartment she modifies with magic. Madoka's massive house would legit cost millions of dollars in Japan. Like I said, don't think about it. Also, Homu is a dork, not an invalid. She was building bombs in timeline two. I'm sure she could cook up ramen. The story shows she always had that potential in her. Her dedication and inner strength were so great, it resulted in her and her bff/love interest becoming gods.

Witches dont exist, so she became something else when her soul gem shattered. That's why Homu and Kyubey were confused until Homu decided to dub herself a demon. It's not well explained, but it isnt a deus ex.

She'll be fine anon. Rebellion went out of its way to make Homu as sympathetic as possible. Swan Lake is one of the motifs for the next film. The ballet which ends an apology, forgiveness, suicide, and two lovers being reunited in heaven.

Saving the universe would be easy: kill Homura. That isn't the thing at stake though. Madoka has never been shown to really do anything for Homu and it'd only make sense she'd try to save her from herself.

No it wasn't. Kyubey mentions as early as episode 2 that Madoka could wish to be a god if she wanted to. He says this again in episode 8 and it's explained why in episode 11. So why is it a deus ex if she wishes for the thing that's been blatantly stated throghout the series?

She uses time-space magic. Kyubey isnt walking through a door. He's walking in through a barrier like shroud.

She's cold and distant because she's PTSDed out after 100 timelines worth of death and destruction. She out right states that it hurts her that she's grown so distant from Madoka and that Madoka doesn't remember her.

I'm not one to simply believe every word a character says just because they say it. Especially not when they're supposed to be a trickster like kyubey. He even outright contradicts himself saying that sayaka can't be wished back to normal and then immediately after goes on to say madoka could be a god. So which is it? Most reasonably interpreted to be neither, because he's lying the whole time and it should be obvious from episode 1.
Even if we take everything he says at face value, it doesn't make any sense. How can only less than a hundred threads of fate be enough to make someone a god? And that's if we decide to listen to offhand comments from interviews. The visuals show only 14 threads. Granted being 14 or 100 times more powerful than normal would be awesome but I don't see the connection to godlike powers there. No matter which way you look at it it was an asspull. And not even a good one, the world is still full a despair and the original objective of avoiding the miserable life of a magical girl from the iteration 3 promise is nowhere near being fulfilled at all. Even if we accept that somehow there's enough power there to break the entire universe, she couldn't even make a proper utopia?
As soon as they did that the story stopped mattering. I don't really want to fight about this but I hope you can see why I don't see how any ending that occurs in the context of the tv ending could be a good one.

Magic clearly doesn't follow the laws of thermodynamics. Because for Kyubey's plan to work on any level the magical girl needs to generate orders of mangnitude more energy than she used in her entire lifetime. Who's to say Madoka's power scaled linearly? What if once you reach a certain threshold magic generation becomes self-sustaining and essentially limitless?
Point being, yeah the idea is kind of an asspull, but if you accept any of the show's premises, this isn't THAT far out there.

What about queens and other important people who kyubey compares madoka's power to? Why weren't they able to overturn the universe? As for time magic never doing this before, that's just how much inner strength and determination that Homura has. She's able to keep going for at least 100 loops without dying or witching out. My guess is that no one was able to build up enough 'karmic weight' before.

It's not like ancient cultures were philosophically dead. There's been detailed ideas about the workings of the universe since basically forever. Karmic laws isn't exactly a modern science.
The thing is if not for episode 12, and only episode 12 basically showing everything, and for reasons that would be too long to write here, I'd be disinclined to believe a single word that kyubey says. He acts basically exactly like a grey alien and they're well known for long bullshit speeches about universal harmony which truly only are meant to distract you from the butt probing for genetic material.
I can understand that there's a tale of not being able to overcome evil with mere human failings and needing to accept divine intervention and all that, kinda like faust I guess? But even on that level it doesn't work because the world madoka leaves behind is not fundamentally better than the one before. I gotta appreciate the exacting representation of the loving god of the new testament but I'm also fairly certain casting madoka in the role is at least one kind of blasphemy. And on every other level I'd much rather see madoka and homura overcome their hardships off their own power.

Its been a while since I've seen the show, but didn't we see her witch out into mega powerful Gretchen during the flashbacks before episode 12? This is why I added that we see these particular things to be true, and its not jsut what kyubey said. We can infer that since Gretchen was going to go on to destroy the planet, that no witch before her was this powerful, since the Earth is fine. So that seems to be compelling evidence that no one before Madoka was this strong (at this level you almost instantly witch out which necessitates there being a witch of Gretchen's caliber to have a wish of Madoka's caliber).
And I agree that Madoka's wish basically amounted to nothing. Oh instead of fighting for the rest of your life and either dying or becoming a monster, you just die. Whoopdie do.
