That's my point,
I think the other anon might be projecting his views onto Rei. At least in my opinion Asuka fits more the profile he's ascribing to Rei. In my view Rei might be too much 'all business all the time' at times but faaaar from a social darwinist, I mean, she fell for Shinji, a guy that probably deserved to be put out of his misery and left the fate of the world up to him.

Even if you disagree with Rei being one, you have to understand that Asuka fits even less. She is constantly mean to people and cares a lot about herself.
To really follow the ideology you would be somewhat passive to others in that you don't want to hurt them or help them; let them survive by their own merit or fall by their own undoing.
Letting Shinji pick the fate of the world rather than doing it for him is somewhat illustrative of this idea. Like a mother forcing a child into a difficult situation then letting them decide for themselves how they want to get out of it.
