Any financial analysts on /biz/ want to share what it's like? It sounds like a decent job, but I hear that a good portion of them work very long hours, and honestly if that's the case, I'd rather work in a less well-paying career like market research if it means a 40ish hour work week. Anyone in the field and working a normal week? Working over? What are other similar jobs that maybe pay less but have more standard schedules?

Silly question: Do Big 4 accountants or rather auditors not have a short term edge they could use to their advantage as they prepare financial statements?
Could you not use the information you see on various companies to take various derivative positions before it becomes public?
Example could you not take out futures contracts on a stock you see possibly outperforming previous year earnings and analyst projections?
Or short a company that isn't going to perform well based on the information you and your collegues are working with?

There was this one interview I went in for. I was interviewed first by phone. The guy was friendly and asked me how I would approach certain problems (i.e how would you begin to trouble shoot a blue screen, etc). He was impressed by my answer. However, when I showed up for the interview (it was a different person). I walk in, close the door behind me. Smile and reach out my hand for a handshake. Well, I personally looked into Comp Sci at UofT, and UW, but from those 4 options I would personally select Comp Sci at Ryerson, solely because of the profs and the fact that work is easy to come by, as well as networks are easily established in Downtown Toronto.
But if you're interested in the best education quality, then definitely Comp Sci at York University's Lassonde School of Enginering. Their $100,000,000 new enginering building is great and puts York back in the competition for the best...

I was mainly considering UTSC/UTM or Ryerson though. I've heard those UofT campuses don't really measure up to St. George but I figured it still carries the reputation of the UofT name anyway. What you learn should be the same anyways, shouldn't it?
Ryerson seems OK but definitely not top-tier by any means.

My goal is to work remotely for a mid sized startup / large software company while living in a small town where everyone knows each other and nature is at my door. Save up a ton due to low CoL then retire by 45 and work as a schoolteacher or open a bar.
