There's your problem. Bettering yourself is about willpower, you can't be weak. Get up and get to work.
My biggest advice, with no skills or experience, is to sign on to a trades apprenticeship (career) or customer service (fast 40k salary). Apply like crazy, 20 per day at least, and google resume tips every day to improve what you have. Your first 3 interviews will be utter failures. That's okay. Expect it, accept it, learn from...

I don't get any of this trading stuff.
A few questions if you could please answer them;
1) What kinds of trading are there? Like I know of forex (foreign currency), stock, and everything?
2) What skills/books/videos should I watch to learn about trading?
3) How much money do I need to start?
4) Is trading something I could do to replace my part time job at McDonalds (currently waiting to enroll in university)

Hi, is buying a house in cash generally a worse investment than renting and investing the vast majority of the extra cash into a well-diversified mutual fund?
I played with some numbers and assumptions in Excel, and could never get the house-in-cash option to appreciate further than 11% average annual MF return less rent. Thanks in advance.

Depends how much you could make from your mutual funds vs how much your house appreciates over the same period... do a simple PV calculation.
Having zero personal debt is never a bad thing.
The thing you want to avoid is being house poor.
There is not a real simple answer to this question, because there are so many variables, such as the current economic outlook, the price of the house, and your financial stability.

That's why people diversify, OP.
What you could do is, put 50-70% down on the home, take a loan on the rest. Take the cash you would have spent on the home and put it in the market. That will insure you are at least diversified.
I'm not saying I would invest in index funds right now, because I wouldn't.
Hi, this is my first time on /biz/. I'm usually on /r9k/, but I figure you guys would be the best people to come to.
Currently a uni student struggling on multiple levels, the biggest of which being my finances. I am unemployed and intend to stay that way; In the past I've tried to juggle college and work, and for me it just doesn't work out. I used to, like 10 years ago. It was easy to just straight play the odds and beat all the guys who thought that because they could bluff their drunk buddies they were good.
But all those guys pretty much gave up and the online poker sites are now mostly run by computer algorithms that I can't beat on a consistent basis.

Based on a stock's previous price points (1 - 7 days old), what kind of information can be determined, if any, about the future trend of that particular stock?
Also,if the closing prices are consistently higher than the opening prices for a given day, is that any indication that it will continue to rise?
Similarly, what other influences factor into the future trend of stocks? With the exception of the news being the most obvious one.

Does anyone here run algorithms for daily fantasy? I am thinking of designing a system for the upcoming baseball season. At first it would just be a challenge/excersice but if I got i too a competitive level I might throw some money into it. there's a ton of different resources for dfs. it's entirely up to you for what statistics you want, and you can either find raw or processed data from there.
I have done some NFL and tried a free NBA, but I am in the positive overall. I usually look at matchups and compare it to projections from yahoo fantasy. some of it comes from just knowing the game (eg. there's a player out and his replacement is dirt cheap to take) and then sometimes it is gut. that is what I I base my GPP entries on. however, for consistent money, you want to do 50/50s and double...

Should I pay a year's rent in advance?
I'm 21 and want to move out, but I have shitty credit and no apartment complex or even individual landlords have called me back. If I listed I would pay the year in advance, would that help? I can afford up to $2K/month a year in advance.

Learn how working abroad actually works first. Most countries require you to pay tax even if its based elsewhere and yes that means having a VISA.
