General business education thread.

I need advice from businessmen.
I will study an open degree at open university.
What is the best and most effective yet versatile module combination?
For my level one I wanted to pick essential mathematics 1 and 2, management practise and professional communication in business.
Level two I wanted to pick leadership classes, financial accounting and management accounting.
Level three I was thinking of managing 1, 2 and 3 and statistics&probability.

I'm thinking it would be most versatile yet effective...

I took a Scriptwriting class last semester and my teacher has been urging me to try selling a script I wrote, and gave me some contacts to call and pitch it to.

I honestly don't know anything about selling a script at all, does anyone here have any experience in this and mind sharing it?

I've also heard that even if you don't sell your script, you can use it as a way of getting a job, or good representation but how would I go about doing that?

I've been emailing her but she's slow to reply because she's not teaching any courses this semester.

I'm just asking for additional help desu senpai.

Do you have to be part of SAG to sell a script? Or you do sell it to someone who is part of SAG?

Is there still decent money to be made in writing apps? Anyone here done so?

I've been writing software for a decade or so now, and I'm curious if doing this on the side has viable returns, or if it's just pissing into the wind at this point.

There never was decent money to be made. Nothing has changed: if you happen to have the 1 in 10000 app that actually attracts an audience then you could be rolling in dough. Otherwise you pretty much threw your time/money out the window.

If you are interested in creating small/simple apps or games and you need support in UI/UX let me know. I also have a few ideas. I think it is difficult to create outstanding apps these days because the market is full. But what could work is making apps which are very intuitive, beautiful and simple.

That ship has sailed. What could work is making apps that work.

Hi /biz/. I didn't know this board existed until just now.

Anyway, my grandparents are well into their retirement. They currently live with two of their sons, who are ~50 years old, and both unemployed (no spouse or children of their own). They are not looking for jobs, and never will. They are entirely supported by my grandparents' savings. I guess the idea is that when my grandparents inevitably pass away, their sons will live on the savings until they do too.
The thing is, all of their savings is just in a savings account. By the time their sons are 80,...

>I'm worried that they will squander their savings too quickly, and I will be the only one left to support them.

Not your responsibility.

>I'm only 23 and I should not have to manage my family's finances

No shit.

>...but even I have a job, an emergency fund, and max out my 401k and IRA each year.

It is better to masturbate in private.

>What would be the best course of action for my family to take?

Firstly, step off the cross and stop acting like an early 20-something martyr. For better or worse these individuals are adults, and so long as their parents consent, then it is their money to do with freely as they wish.

If they ask, feel free to give out advice, but for fuck sake don't solicit. Your post reeks of arrogance, so that may be difficult. Everyone is free to make their own decisions, both bad and good. Like I said, this isn't your concern, so throwing yourself in front of a bus is merely for ego, far from respectable.
>>
Your best course of action would be abandon your family to their own devices. Suggest ideas to them but don't be overly stubborn. Forcing people to make lifestyle changes at that age is nearly impossible, and teaching them new things is out of the question entirely. Just focus on your future, and try to limit your own downside once they come asking for money.
You should not have to suffer because of their poor choices.

Hi. I'm a university student in Canada and I have quite a fair amount of cash saved at home. It's not from anything illegal but but I should probably deposit it into my bank account soon. I'm hesitant to deposit it all at once though just because I heard if you deposit too high of an amount you need to fill out paper work and stuff and it just sounds like a nuisance.

Create a website and have ad spaces. No one fucking reads newspapers, let alone a couple A4 pages from some random, creepy student with 0 social skills.
Also, clickbait. A lot of clickbait.

I don't see how this deliver success in my country people still reads newspaper, i had the idea of banner ads but not filling the website this lame publicity that makes people hate it, and nobody browses web pages anymore, people nowadays thinks that facebook is the whole WWW

I don't think a free startup uni newspaper is going to be profitable

to actually make money you'd need to get it through advertising but who's going to pay you to put ads on a newspaper no-one has heard of that's only going to be read by students at a university?

if you're wanting to write something in particular you're better starting a blog and really as >>1045344 says doing anything without the internet in 2016 is dumb.

How would I go about starting a life insurance company?
I have a pretty good idea on how to make loads of cash off of it while still making the customer think they're getting a solid arrangement.

What certifications would I need? How could I get the financing for it?

>>
Lol... you aren't going to be able to start a life insurance company, for any of the following reasons...

1. There are license requirements for people selling life insurance, and a lot more for the company itself.

2. You need PILES of cash. You have to be able to legally prove you have the money to provide the coverage you sell.

3. A small company wouldn't be able to compete with the big boys who have economy of sales.

4. By your description, it sounds more like you want to fool the customers rather than provide them a real service, which...

They have around 70 trucks and 100 employees. I'm not sure how much it currently brings in, only that this was the best year ever thanks to diesel prices, which according to my grandpa saved them an additional $1.6M in 2015.

They have always discouraged us (grandchildren) from taking on the business because they say something bad is always happening, referring to wrecks, drivers dying on the job, lawsuits, etc. However it has made them very wealthy, moreso than I would ever be working for someone else with a four year degree.

None of the other grandkids...

If they don't want you in it they don't want you in it for some reason. Either because they think you can do better, or you're not cut out for it. They could also just have other plans for it (re: selling it to a larger...

I know people in the industry. It's a good industry. You'll make a lot of money, more than most. You'll be rich, but sadly, it's a career that will only go so far. You won't attain huge levels of success like becoming a billionaire. My suggestion would be to sell the company, learn some skills and use that to start up something much bigger. Something you can turn into a few 100 million.

Poor Walmart and their measly $500B/year in revenue and $15B in net income. Must be tough for them...

Oh right, 100 stores in bumfuck nowhere doesn't even amount to rounding error on their P&L. It's not an amazing business to get into but it's steady easy money. Boomers like their little 3% dividend yield.

When Americans start to consume significantly less and eat healthier (read: less, and less processed food), then get scared. But they'll still be one of the last to go.

What's the difference between President and CEO?
15 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.

CEO

A CEO is the highest ranking employee of a company and reports directly to the board of directors. Chief Executive Officer of a company has the responsibility of ensuring that the company is profitable and that the company is always steered in the direction of growth. He knows he will find favor of his bosses (the board of directors) only as long as he keeps raking in profits. CEO plays the role of a visionary for the company and rest of the employees look up to him because of his leadership abilities. In reality, he is the link between the board and other managers of various departments of the organization. CEO is the ship of the captain and oversees the performance of the managers and also devices strategies to help the company achieve its goals.

President

The President is always next in command to the CEO in the chain of management. The CEO puts the responsibility of running the operations of the company on the shoulders of the President. President it is who has to oversee day to day operations, sign the checks, and see the availability of raw materials and so on. While the CEO has to deal with the investors and media, it is the President who keeps the business running, doing all that the CEO asks him to do. He is the guy who actually runs the show under the guidance of CEO.
>>
>>1044392
In the company I work for (a global corporation), the president is (in my opinion) more of a mascot.

The CEO is a link between shareholders and senior management and appoints / oversees senior management. Senior management makes day to day business decisions and these trickle down the management ladder to the common worker. There's about 8 levels of management (managers managing managers) between the CEO and the common worker.

Why do people network so aggressively? How do I get noticed when I couldn't care less about recruiters that don't care about me?

My classmates crawl over each other just to get face time with recruiters for a chance at a 50k salary job.I have no motivation to compete with them. I don't want to look vulnerable for a shitty job.

I have much better offers from other industries but I can't really bring that up during networking. If you're wondering why I don't just take my better offers, it's because I don't want to work in finance anymore

If you don't want a job with high competition or that requires extreme marketability, you've basically limited yourself to STEM degrees.

I'm extremely competitive, I'm in the top 10% of my class at a top 20 school that is heavily recruited. Our career services know me by name and often refer me to recruiters when they ask who they should look for. I get invited to our school's networking trips all across the country (canada).

As long as I don't have to stroke my dick in front of others, get me one on one with recruiters and I shine.

I don't want to work for a company that values someone based on how well they...
