Hi /biz/ I graduated last may with a degree in Economics and am currently working as a data analyst making $51k a year. I was brought in at $41k/yr but then earned a promotion and a raise. I'm 21 years old about to turn 22.
My family is really pressuring me to get a master's degree. I've been thinking about doing one part time through a state school or something so I can pay for it in cash while I work, but they want me to go to expensive private schools and stop working. They don't intend to help pay or anything, they didn't even help pay for...

Check with your boss. Each company is different how it handles promotions. They won't get mad at you for asking questions like this because it shows ambition and determination.
Just say "I'm looking to improve my position here even more. Should I work on getting a masters or will it be enough if I put that energy towards being more productive?"
Your family isn't bad, i guess, it's just that the biggest meme of the world is "YOU NEED TO GET LOADS O DEGREES OR U DIG DITCHES...

also, hows the work anon, im debating majoring in economics, either that or finance/math
>>1046597
I enjoy my job alright. Usually the beginning orf the month is boring because we're just making standard end of the month reports for the executives. After that though we tackle ad hoc requests. Before I started doing the data analyst job I was in the fraud department, so I act sort of as a liaison for them, and handle a lot of the fraud requests, so it's cool shit.
Econ is good but make sure to supplement with Stats and math. Same with finance really. If you do that it really opens up your potential....

How much for an Etsy product description that pops?
>>1046478
I don't know, what's the standard rate? $10?
What kind of product, how much text etc
>>1046522
Well the first step I would suggest is to outline the product you are selling. You should know better than the customer, since you are the expert.
Are Indians stealing American jobs on wall street? I see quora shit online of people in India asking" How can i come to america and become stock broker?"
>>1046361
>stealing
the equivalent of "how to get rich quick" threads. indians want to dream too.
>>1046374
So is wall street going to be filled with indians in the distant future?
Hey,
I just bought a subscription,
is this the most trustworthy news or is it going to be liberal bullshit? Ruport Murdoc is supposed to be a libertarian.

So, how is the first year of uni going?
>>1046249
MBA,
English major pls go
if you get your information from newspapers or media you are way behind the curve my friend.
basically, you are an economic retard.
I just invested in an index fund a few weeks ago and of course now it's down. The indices always go up overtime though right? If I stick it out I'll end up making a good rate of return? Especially if I put X dollars into the fund each month?
>>1046239
Yes. Was it the dow?
Don't even check it..maybe once a month. Put it away. Have faith and work hard.
>>1046239
I hope you fully intend to hold these for decades.
Read: Decades
The theory goes, that over multiple decades the market always goes up. However, if your investing horizon is too short, your entry point can make or break you.
>>1046247
It's a Vanguard fund that pretty much follows the dow. I figure if the world economy comes to a complete downfall I'll have much bigger things to rworry about than my fund anyways.
Does /biz/ have a recommended reading list on finance, investments, trading, economics, etc?
Hey biz
I'm entering my finale year of my bachelor of commerce majoring in finance and economics.
As an ausfag, I'm curious as to the relevance of an MBA. should I bother? what will I learn from an MBA? How essential is it to my career?
Thanks in advance lads!
>>1046143
MBA is usually a post-grad thing. First get a job, earn some cash and think about it later.
>>1046143
Lot of variance among MBA programs--some (not most) are very technical, with lots of finance and economics mathematics. Most are fluffier and will not teach you much, but that's not the point--the point is to network and intern while in school, and then get hired by some other MBA when you get out (in my experience, people with MBAs hire other people with MBAs).
It sounds unrealistic, but do any good paying work at home jobs exist? I'm a shut-in but I have to get some kind of job for money, and I would like something where I don't have to leave the house, at the least not very often.
>>1045858
you could sell yourself to old men on backpage. Having them come to your home is kind of risky though.
>>1045858
Yes software devs of all flavors can work from home and do very well. The bad news is that you need to have years of experience and a proven track record in your area. So you're still gonna have to hit that real world treadmill for 5-10 years. No one is gonna gamble on an entry level guy working from home. Face to face mentoring from experienced devs is invaluable

do you work a 8-4 job? if so open a bar, work as the manager at night for the first year, then hire another manager and he will do what you did then collect the benefits of their work
>>1045526
>absolutely the easiest thing.
Being a landlord is not "easy".
If you want to be hands off, you have to hire a property management company to manage your properties. You can expect to lose about 10% Gross for their services.
You are also responsible for all taxes, repair costs, and misc costs and fees. You can expect this to be around 20% but it very greatly depending on location and age of the building. The more densely populated the area, and the older...

^words from someone who has never owned rentals
Alright lads, i have an athletic scholarship to a state school, and i want to become a ATC after football and school end. However the school doesnt offer any courses that may help me pursuit that, so i was wondering whats a good all round degree that one can get incase i dont make it? Im thinking Economics or Finance, they seem like important degrees but i feel like theyre the same?
>tl;dr op is a fag
What is a good degree to fall back on
Bumping, since I've been wondering kind of the same thing
Shameless self bump

Parents watch this guy every night to feel like they are doing something towards their retirement. How to I convince them not to follow his advice with their savings?
honestly you cant theyre willfully ignorant
Tell them to bet against him. There was a study that said if you followed his advice, 72% of the trades went against it. You have good odds
Markets are fast, they are a secondary source of info.
Internet is fast and slow, It is a secondary source at best you're communicating with primary sources. Employees, suppliers etc...
This guy gets his info filtered through writers, checked by editors, and his fund acted on this weeks ago.
There's a reason he no longer manages the fund.
Fired for no longer being able to perform
I thought we were supposed to be on the road to fucking recovery from 2007/08
ahahah dumbass faggots are realizing all the bandages from 2008 are about to completely unravel

Can you elaborate pls, what the fk is happening
Poor situations in other countries, few jobs being created, most new jobs are low paying, oil production wars, dying middle class, wealth rapidly concentrating into fewer hands. We need new industries to pop up that employ lots of people, but this rarely happens except mostly for outsourcing.
Why are people like Bernie against Wall Street? Did they cause the financial crisis like he's stating?
>>1042640
>Why are people like Bernie against Wall Street?
Because he a jew central banker who hates goyim
>Did they cause the financial crisis like he's stating?
No, not at all. The reason for every financial crisis since 1913 has been the federal reserve.
>>1042640
He's against them on the principle that financial and banking sectors are making a shitload of money while the actual doers and shakers are getting the scraps.
whether he is right, we will see.
>>1042640
And yes absolutely, banking and specifically home loans and credit swaps absolutely caused the crisis.
