Read "The Devil's Financial Dictionary" in about a day and get a solid grasp on finance jargon, watch some khan academy, and figure out what the hell they want you to do all day. Don't be afraid to say that you don't know something, but are willing to do whatever it takes to learn. They probably have mandatory training anyway. Good luck, tell us how it goes.

For those that don't know a duck pattern means you should stay away from consumer staples and stocks and put money in the banking sector.

don't neglect working the shaft while you're sucking dick. it makes the whole process end faster which, as a result, will make your operation more efficient, and therefore profitable.
Figure out what you want in life, then start doing things to reach those goals. I mean really figure it out. Not just "I want money." How much? To what end? What do you want to buy?
Figure out the lifestyle that you want and realize what strings are attached. Think about if your goals are realistic. If you want to be rich but don't want to work 70 or 80 hours a week, maybe you should consider something else.

if you don't know anyone in the industry you either won't get a job at all, or will only have shit tier contract positions available to you that have no benefits and pay like 40k per year. at that point you're much better off going into trades since you'll make roughly the same and it's a union job.

Guide to choosing funds.
1. Make sure the expense ratio is low (0.5% at most). Expense ratio is $ you are giving away to the fund manager. Index funds are particularly nice here, with some Vanguard offerings having a < 0.1% expense ratio.
2. Lookup the fund's turnover rate, and make sure it is lower than 50%..the lower the better. A turnover rate is the % of stocks that the manager buys/sells in a given year relative to the total. Index funds are ideal, but there are some active funds out there with decent managers. What to look for in an active fund is the following:
1. Look up the fund management on Morningstar. Check the chief manager's..are they bouncing around from fund to fund? Bad sign, that indicates they care more about their own professional growth than their fund.
2. Check out the top 10 holdings in the fund. Are they boring? GOOD! Market typically charges a premium on "exciting" companies such as Apple, Facebook, etc. Boring companies are generally overvalued.

So most people don't think like /biz/, but we want them to at least be on our side. How do you deal with this? Maybe you work in sales and sell shit to people that really shouldn't be buying it.
