i couldn't find a job after getting my mech eng bachelors. the only calls back i could get were for shit tier contract positions (6 to 12 months in length) with no benefits and pay ranging from 40 to 50k. working on my phd now and i doubt that'll pay off either if i graduate.
was going to go into trucking originally and it would have likely been a much better choice. first year you typically make 30 to 40k but you don't need college.

I'm someone who's saving up money to throw my life away. I want to open a comic book/gaming store. Pretty much toss my social life away in pursuit of my passion. The thing is, I don't know how much I'm gonna need to start this beotch up. I've done some research online and everyone says you need 60-100k to start a comicbook store, but to me this seems high. Anyone in a similar boat?

There's a lot that goes into this. From getting and managing staff, to legal issues, to setting up payment processing, etc.
First and foremost is studying your market. Is there a demand/need for your store? Are there any competitors? How are they doing? What can you do different.
Also, location, location, location. You can have a great store, product, and service, but if you set up shop in a shitty side street because the rent is cheap, you can be fucked. Also, it's all about the cash flow....

Friends of a friend bought out store from a chain that went under. They ran it for maybe 2 years until they had to give up.
Rent is killer. There's a market for almost any kind of store but not enough to flush $5K+ per month down the toilet supporting some layabout landlord's coke habit. I wanted to open a shop too and still feel tempted every time I drive by another vacant storefront. Nobody in spending; nobody has been since 2009.
Running a business isn't as hard as some people make it...

Oh, store that closed was a game store. I also know a guy who's been successful in comics for 30 years but has downsized to only one store at this point. The market just isn't spending and costs are going up up up.

I think we're coming up on tax time, when the media will spend a lot of time telling us what the "market value" of stay at home mom's is. They will probably throw out a figure of around $120k per year.
Meanwhile, they will ignore the husband who's busting his hump to earn $50k per year to support the wife and kids.
GDP is a number. It neglects anything that isn't quantifiable.

Pros, work on your own usually
Cons, infractions go on your personal license, hard to just stop and take a piss, I like to drink a lot. A lot of money to get the license unless you have a rig you can borrow. Like most jobs employer wants experience relegating you to shit jobs/runs at first. There are probably more but that was enough to turn me off of the idea for now.
CR England will hire anyone who is infraction free for 3 years and can take a drug test (and they KEEP drug testing you constantly at random)
My brother went to their driving school. One of the best in the country actually. But there are downsides. School is very fast paced. If you fall behind anywhere, they will tell you not to come back tomorrow. His class started on Sunday afternoon with 125 people. By Thursday of the second week (day before you take your CDL A test) there was only 30 people left. 25 of them passed their test the next day.

I forgot to mention, do not go to trucking school on your own. CR England and Swift run their own schools for drivers they are going to employ. Your chances of going to private school and getting a job are less than zero. No company hires drivers without 2 years experience because the insurance for you ends up costing them money every mile you drive. Its why people like CR and Swift pay so poorly. They wont turn a profit on you until month 24+

I was talking with my friend, and we think we have found a novel way to make bots in MMOs. This is obviously against the TOS of most MMOs. So, if we were to make an effective bot, how would we declare the income? I would definitely not be keen to launder cash, at all, and would like to keep it clean as a whistle without opening myself up to civil lawsuits.

I have come to the realization that this online store front is over saturated with compition and I'm spending more in ads then I'm actually making sales .
