So I created an eBay account a month ago or so. Tried to sell 2 items, and none of them sold.
Now I want to change my user ID (because the one I chose sucks), and buy some stuff to get lots of positive feedback to get sales.
Should I just close my eBay account and create a new one? Can I use the same PayPal for a new account?
>>1068903
Does anyone even look at the names? Just get some feedback as a buyer, cut your prices temporarily to below cost to get some seller feedback, and gradually raise prices as the 'positives' accumulate.
>>1068907
I really want to change the name though. It's really shitty.
>>1068910
I just use whatever random shit they gave me. eBay is one of those almost perfect knowledge markets where the only thing that seems to matter is price and terms, unless you are selling unique stuff.
I'm new to the stock market and I'm having a hard time understanding the following:
>In December 2005, a trader on the Tokyo stock exchange made what’s known in the business world as Code 11 – that is he completely fucked up!
Obviously the trader had his pants on backwards that day, because he intended to trade one share at 610,000 yen, but instead placed an order for 610,000 shares at one yen each.
No amount of pleading to the Tokyo Stock Exchange could reverse the error and the firm’s loss was around $18.7 million...

Imagine you want to sell your dragon dildo collection on craigslist.
You meant to sell one of them for Y610,000, but instead sold 610,000 for Y1 each.
By the time you noticed your mistake, they had already loaded up the truck.
>>1068560
Oh, so the 610k shares sold at 1 yen a piece could have been sold for more than 1 yen a piece right?
That's weird, I thought shares had a permanently fluctuating price that you could not change {ie 1 share worth $100 must be sold at $100 no matter what}
Dam, I still have a ton to learn. Thank you so much for helping me understand, now I can go to bed in piece.
would this work?
http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/arbitrage
seems like money on the table
couldnt you just build a bot to do this all day? , even with btc's bullshit hella long processing time thats easy money
>>1066504
No. Exchange fees and cycle times on the order of weeks make it impossible.
Source: I've tried this.
>>1066504
The exchanges don't allow this. You're essentially using their business against them. They hold your coins for a good bit before you can take it out.
>>1066504
Lengthy transaction times and volatility in the currency make this impossible to accomplish.
hi /biz
I lurk more on /g/, but I'm a buy-side analyst at a reasonably sized asset manager (40B AUM).
I've always wondered how many people here work on the street, but I never see any posts from people who actually work in the industry.
I work in NY with a focus on US Large-Cap Equities, specialty tech and macro. I'm junior though, so I do other coverage as requested by senior analysts/pms.
Ask me some questions, and I'll do my best to respond. Questions about recruiting, breaking into the buy-side, street sentiment, and all...

NYC college student here, how to go about getting started in a career in this field?
About to graduate with a major in economics and a minor in math from a CUNY school, no internships but I am apply to masters programs.
what is money
Information. Community agreement on the shared meaning of arbitrary symbols. Like language.
Money is, as I see it, a sort of 'work credit'.
Like, i worked 40 hours last week for a company. This company paid me what I am worth to them for 40 hours. I can exchange these work credits at other places for goods or services.
Is it real? Does it have intrinsic value? I dont know. But I know an hour of work is worth 20 Mcdoubles to me and thats a damn good deal.
I'm in the process of buying a car and the dealer is offering me financiation (loan).
They all tell me its a better idea than paying straight cash (that I should be investing my actual money somewhere).
I've also offered to put down like 50% of the value and then finance the rest but the guy at the dealership told me this is a bad idea and I'll end up paying more interest than if I just financed it all.
Are they trying to fuck me over?
>TL;DR: is it better to finance or to pay cash for a car under 10k?
>>1066544
Pure cash is best. They either want to charge you stupid money or they think that you'll default halfway through and they can repo the car.
If its the later then the car wont be worth 10k
Buy from a private seller instead. Paying cash is always better but dealers suck.
>a reminder that the Acura legend was the pinnacle of automotive value
>>1066556
also they fuck with the cost to make it seem like a deal
like saying they can only get you the "factory rebate" if its financed (even if its true youll pay more with a loan and interest than a cash price a few thousand higher than with rebate)
or flat out lying about the cars price
my only goal is to eventually buy a comfy house in a nice area downtown toronto which runs around 1-2 million bucks canadian
I'm doing a grad degree in statistics at a top 5 worldwide school right now and have a lot of job prospects all around the world
what job should I try to get to make this dream come true, where in the world is easiest to make a large salary, and how much yearly will I need to earn to hit that ~1.5 million mark for a house if I have no other desires at all
>>1065993
>possible job prospects over the world
>Buying a shitty, illiquid investment in Toronto
Check yourself for brain damage
>>1066011
Not op but Toronto real estate is very liquid, some chink will scoop it up 20% above market value and pays cash. The houses are shitty yes but it's the location of the property. Not so shitty, t.o houses are expensive af
$1-2 million for that ugly pile of bricks?
>get into Ethereum
>I buy a bunch at its literal peak (2 days ago)

>Either next Friday or the Friday after, the SEC will halt trading of Chevron (NYSE:CVX) as it begins its investigation.
>1. Check whether or not Chevron has been offsetting it's incredibly high losses in subsidiary companies to pump out higher profits.
>2. Check whether they are taking on high interest debt off the books through bribing banking officials in Thailand to do so.
>3. They write off this 'expense' as exploration and production...

Why is aquaculture so underdeveloped? It seems like such an efficient way to produce fish, especially in areas that have no close access to lakes or oceans. Also general aquaculture thread
Because it rarely ever is efficient.
(Source: I'm a marine scientists)
>>1068298
How do you plan on having millions of fish ripe for harvest at every given time? You'd need... oh I dont know... an ocean
Hey /biz/
So the other night I watched this interview with Joe Bongiovanni from 2013 regarding monetary reform.
What do you y'all think is the best way we can fix our international economy and thus all local economies within it?
Link below is video with interview mentioned above

>>1068118
I don't wanna say too much on here, but I'll give you one word: shells.
Shells, man. Shells.
>>1068118
>What do you y'all think is the best way we can fix our international economy and thus all local economies within it?
Actually free banking.
Of course there would be a period of massive restructuring, but after this economies would be built on sound footing.
>>1068529
Yeah, fuck shells, I agree with this guy.
How do I short against this millennial hype?
>tfw all the big banks and corporations are hyping about millennials "kickstarting the economy with their tech savvy skillz" you know its all BS
>>1068067
>black girl on the left positions herself out more to block person in back of her
Typical...
>>1068067
I was trying to pinpoint what they were doing that was so off. Clearly they weren't millenials, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It wasn't the age, the fashion, the pose, the forced assortment, or the far left guy's rapist smile. Those all checked out.
Then it hit me, they were all smiling.
>>1068082
Also that they're some of the most mediocre/ugly models out there
Im 20 and transfering from community college to a uni soon.
Who would be the best people to befriend that I could subtly buy insider info from? Obviously accountants and auditors are out of the question. I was considering business law or something like that, although they arent as fun as auditors they arent as obvious.
Cheers lads.
>>1067678
/pol/ack detected.
>>1067678
Why not befriend your target, get them drunk and have them spill the beans. No need to buy.
Hello /biz/
I know this is probably not the place to ask for advice but I have a big decision to make regarding my future and you're the audience I would like to get opinions from rather than /adv/.
Basically, I've finished high school 3 years ago and I've always done fairly well in school, especially in mathematics and general science/logic/problem solving areas. However, I've yet to do anything productive or challenging ever since. I started backpacking and been travelling the globe for years now financing myself with mundane labour and service...

so you're a lazy guy with no experience or skills and you think you're smart because you did well in high school and you want to know an easy way to make money online without putting in any effort
Try freelancer. If you can deal with the millions africans and indians fucking up everything.
>>1066990
Hm yeah pretty much that. Though at this point Im aware of the fact Im a lazy cunt and I'm trying to do something about it and seriously work on it.
Maybe you could give me a pointer in the right direction and we'll find out whether I can do it or not?
why is it so hard to make money?
>>1066698
because its relative to everyone else. you need to swim fasted than not just the tide but all the other fishes as well.
>>1066702
beat me to it.
Making money is literally a competition. Pure and simple. Some will win, some will lose.
That's why it drives me nuts when people try to say capitalism is not a zero sum game.
>>1066706
I dunno. It kinda depends on the situation. The bread maker uses .50 of ingredients and sells his bread for 2.00. He made the ingredient supplier .50 richer, he gave 2 dollars of economic value to the consumer and gets to keep 1.50. If you attribute the value of the item at the level of what they were willing to pay, then we are actually talking a positive sum situation.
Then you have people like divorce lawyers, who destroy family units for large sums of money. This is, depending on how you look at the family...
