Have 3.2k going into college next year. What should I do with the money? I'm thinking of investing it or just putting it in a savings account, but idk. Will probably work during the school year too.

Started a new job recently. Boss told me the wage would be 15$/h, but got my first check today and it's actually 11.25$/h (minimum wage here). I had the money...but another stroke of bad luck hit me two days ago when my 3 month old kitten's leg got crushed in my front door. After a $700 vet bill...I have next to no money left. Now that going to college is the new norm, are skilled trades a viable option to make money given you start your own business or do contract work? We essentially have over educated and underskilled workforce.

It depends entirely on the trade. Is 30 dollars an hour worth being in an attic all day or dying from welder's lung at 35? Then you have the problem that many trades aren't growing. Obviously all of them aren't bad and everyone has their own tolerances, but quite a few trades are works of passion unlike whatever the fuck it is drones do in an office/factory/field.

It is far better to work in an air conditioned office pushing paper than be surround by idiots (trades attract literally lowlife idiotic scum). You will be tired and worn out after a long fucking day. It is not so great. Go to college just don't study some liberal art. Get a useful skill based career like in medicine or accounting or engineering....

I went back to school for a CS degree.
I talked to CS seniors, who tended to be in the top half of the class. NONE of them knew what software version control was.
If you're interested in computers, and you go to school for CS, and you work as hard or harder than the top 5% hardest working people in your class, and you do projects...

I'm stuck in QA Hell in the Midwest. I started applying a few places in Seattle to be closer to the family. I just got the first ping back.
What's the standard for references in Seattle tech? I have four - three from a previous position and one at my current. (We have 0 support, and I'm one of two engineers.)
Should I expect something like the "Seattle No" if they're not interested? At this point, I'm assuming "we're proceeding with other candidates" as the default.

I'm 10years younger than my all of my colleagues and way too direct in my communication (90% of everything I say is work-related and it sometimes pisses people off.) I'm one of those 'no fun allowed at work' people I guess..

In a similar position, but my situation is almost completely different from yours. I'm about 7-10 years younger than most of my colleagues, and I only ever say hi, bye, or something work related.
They'd make half assed attempts to make conversation so in return I'd give them a half assed response. Truth be told, I don't like talking about my private life with my colleagues.

I am socially awkward, but I'm also only work-focused, which seems to piss off some people. My boss likes that I work hard without bullshitting, but I'm not making any friends with it.
There's nothing wrong with being a "boring person". There's no reason to waste your time talking about last night's baseball game or someone's kid's piano recital. If others are pissed off that you are focused on work, then they are the ones being unprofessional.
