Advice, please. In the unfortunate event of a massive war in Europe, in which companies would be good to invest? Names, if possible. Thanks.

No? I am going to pound the pavement today and get a job.
Alright biz, what are your guys' views of online banks? Such as Ally, I am wanting to trade my savings account to one for a higher APR. I am looking for overall discussions about them, the goods, the bads, the uglys.
I use Ally and they seem to be just fine. They are FDIC insured and do provide a much higher return on savings accounts than Chase or Wells Fargo for example.
I wouldn't keep a checking account with them though as accessing the funds is kind of a pain in the ass. I use a chase checking account and transfer to savings whatever I can. If i need to access the savings money I can do an ACH transfer to my chase checking account and go from there.
There are other online banks that provide slightly higher APY on savings (like 1.08 or 1.1%) but Ally had better reviews...

Perfect, your response is almost identical to my situation. I wasn't planning on a checking account just a savings
>>1371909
Why don't you just find a credit union in your area? They offer higher APRs, they have local branches and access to ATM networks, and you aren't giving your money to (((bankers)))
So tell me about the performance of Indonesia? What are they doing good, what's not so poppin in their country? Why do we love them? Why does China hate them? What's really been the yeast infection of growth in their economy over the past decade?
Ok, well is there anything about Indonesia's economy worth talking about, or are they so neutral that they aren't standing out? Or is it that they're falling?

kangaroo anon here. indonesia is highly corrupt but does have lucrative trade and many resources. mining is fairly big over there too. but there corruption destroys all there profits and thus they are still a shit tear country, ei, human rights violations in their mining sector (evicting and murdering tribes in or near mining sites) and general trading sector (goverment corruption, high taxes, general stealing from the workers). also they used to make a bit of money from us when we exported cattle to them but they...

So could it be said that it suffers from the the wrong side of a resource curse?
Hi /biz, just left HP. Plan to spend few months to develop several websites and/or apps so that I can put into my portfolio when applying the next job.
Any good suggestion on what sites/apps I can do or you think would be useful/practical?
Plan to develop in C#/ASP.net/MVC with Android/iOS frameworks. Learning about Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, financial math etc. Also looking into frameworks like Tensorflow, chatbots etc, the hype stuff. Crypto stuff seems interesting, but still quite a esoteric subject for me atm.
What about a website that tells you how much you weigh?
>>1371878
>Plan to develop in C#/ASP.net/MVC with Android/iOS frameworks.
If you're targeting Android, it doesn't make sense to use anything other than Android Studio with the standard Java.
There are some exceptions to this, like if you're using Unity to develop a multi-platform video game in a non-Java language. Those are the exceptions though.

why did you leave?
With a lot of the world becoming culturally westernized is this a good time to invest in skin whitening cream?
It is very popular in India and I think sales will only go up
https://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2013/aug/14/indias-dark-obsession-fair-skin
Is it worth investing?
>>1371872
No. After the race wars there will be no one left to use them.
>>1371872
>invest in skin whitening cream
The direct marketing of snake oils based on insecurity industry doesn't need investors. Just start your own company selling skin whitening serums and market in India. The ingredients don't matter, all that matters is how good your marketing is and how good your phone support are at warding off refunds.
I'd gladly invest in a pill to sterilize indians

No, fuck off.
Come back when you have (a) a steady income (salary or wage), (b) at least $3000 to invest for 5 years or longer, and (c) a fully-funded cash emergency fund of at least 3 months typical living expenses.
>Protip: this and this alone should be the /biz/ sticky
long Btc, sell when it hits 665 cause that's resistance right now. When it breaks that in the next couple of weeks at 670, long again.
Short ETH in a week or so or whenever the time limit is up for the DAO hacker decision

Do it there cause the spreads are good right now and probably the most straight forward exchange when it comes to leverage trading.
>type up huge multi-post about how I make enough from crypto in one hour a day to pay for all of my living expenses wherever I want to travel to with no barriers and a starting capital of $1,000

There's various companies in shit-ass Africa drilling right now, I'd suggest doing some research.
Of course, this would be a substantially long-term investment.

Got some spare money. Not enough to do some big stuff, not brave enough to buy actual shares, not dumb enough to buy e-coins.
Are crowd investments legit? Any of you want to share experience with platforms like crowdcube or seedrs? If I invest 100£ on 10 different projects (10£ for each), how likely am I to get it all back or even more? How soon could it happen?
>>1371465
I don't know anything about this particular market.
That being said, I wonder how many _good_ investment opportunities need to seek funding from an anonymous crowd over an institutional investor. The institutional investors can offer advice, legitimacy and network in addition to money, while the crowd can only offer the latter.
So it seems to me like this is just where the worst companies go to hustle some idiots out of their money.
I may be wrong, but those are some things worth considering anyway...
>>1371492
For most part you are right. That is judging sites like kickstarter, where companies can just ask for money and not ever give anything back. I'm more interesting in those legit sites that actually have accomplished something great and offer something back.
Shameless self-bump. Need some experienced people in here!
I want to invest in an index fracker fund but I don't have enough to go for Vanguard or most of the big ones as they require around £100000 - I'm in the UK if that makes a difference?
I have an account with an online stockbroker, is investing into an S & P 500 ETF through them my best way of getting an index tracker fund.
I don't want spoon feeding and I don't need a debate about ETFs and their benefits or disadvantages compared to other types of investment, just my best way to invest in an index tracker.
