I have 20,000 dollars in savings from working the past 2 years
how can I make this money work for me, for example through some sort of low risk long term investment or something?
I'm not asking for someone to tell me exactly, just point me in the right direction and I will do the learning/reading
I'm just worried about doing something stupid with it, and I don't want to work when im 40

I don't think I fit the average finance/business-mindset, I think it's just the way I am but it does feel like an outcast in the business world sometimes. I am currently finishing my MSc Economics focusing on Finance, I moved as an immigrant at the age of 5 to my present country, I know what struggle and adaptation to a new culture is like, I am the first within my family to have a college degree (BSc Economics) and I previously interned for a total of 12 months at Goldman and other banks. My dream is the development of a profitable algo-trading system and of course financial independence.
Yet, assuming I succeed, I never think of myself as someone who will live in a multi-million dollar mansion, drive Lamborghinis and spend a lot of money. My vision always has been and continues to be that of a Robin Hood. With all the potential profits I want to help kids with a scholarship fund, I want to help my old school by supporting it financially, I want to support projects that really matter for mankind in my mind (electric cars, fusion power, space exploration...), even if I can only help a little. I grew up in a small town where even 1 million would mean the world to the town and they could construct a park or whatever with it.
Does anyone else have this "giver"-mentality? However, it also means to literally give money away to people who have worked less than I have so far. It's like I am a born socialist living in a cutthroat capitalist environment.

I don't think you're weird at all. I think most people feel the exact same way you do. However, most people I've encountered in the tax bracket you wish to belong to are actually very self-focused. It takes tremendous effort to overcome the odds and make it on your own. Now add the added difficulty of helping others overcome their odds. The odds get stacked agains you very quickly, and you'll find out how hard it is to stay above water.
Good luck though!
>>1173646
>Am I weird?
you are not weird, you are weak
no but you have to do a cost benefit analysis.
On the way to the top you'll find that many of these people are petty and revolting. They do not appreciate opportunities and will bleed you dry given the chance for they themselves do not know how to create and what it means to create for the masses. The sacrifices that must be made are enormous. They do not realize the burden of stewardship. your million dollar park likely costs over 100k per year to maintain, and without quickly turns to a dried up dust bin where hobos get buried and whores trick for drug money....

Nothing to be proud of. I made more than that during my first internship when I was in college.
I can spend 10kEuro on a project.
I would like to start a business that would let me meet a lot of young girls.
The reason is that while I have a lot of good friends, we don't meet a lot of girls.
I live in a country, and in an area where the girl population is pretty low compared to males. All my friends are in long term relationships, next to being married, nerds, etc etc
I haven't fucked a girl in 6 years. I am not socially retarded, but I just can't meet new girls and therefore I can't find one to fuck.
Of course the business...

Some ideas for you my friend:
1) Start pornography production company.
2) Start amateur modelling agency (can be with clothing or nude modeling agency)
3) If you are a good looking guy and are in good shape you can work as male stripper or start your own business making private shows for girls.
4) If you are good looking and have good figure and nice cock you can become male escort. The girls here may not be young and good looking but you will have some good sex.
I think your best choice would be to start the clothed/nude modelling business. You can pretend...

supposedly jamaica, cuba, and all those other carribean countries are all heavily reliant on oil in their economies but only as an input that they import.
So the price of oil dropping by 80% means an 80% gain in productivity/efficiency in their industries.

What's /biz/'s opinion on becoming a private money lender?
Enjoy getting raped on taxes.
Yeap. You'll file quarterly if your AGI is high enough. Then again getting raped in taxes means I'm making money.
Expect 12-15% returns. Plus origination points.
Look for properties with no first lien.
Loan to value under 70%. Hopefully they do default so you take the property and lease it out. Or do it all over again.
Be a bank bro. Make bank dude.

I own Exxon and VOO (S&P 500). About 3 to 1 XOM.
When I sell, should I sell at the same time? They appear to be following each other.
Buy ExxonMobil desu
>>1172566
I own a lot already. I'm just wondering if I should sell VOO when I sell XOM.
>>1172571
Only you can make that decision. What are you selling at all? You think there's going to be a market crash? Sell them both. You think oil is going to go higher? Keep XOM and sell VOO. You think oil is going to crash (and stay down)? Sell XOM and keep VOO.
One is a diversified index of a lot of companies and the other is an oil company. Correlations between assets are pretty high nowadays thanks to central bank interventions so what you're seeing is not historically all that accurate.
