Give me life/business advice. Should I start investing? Is my major appropriate? I want to live a decent comfortable life, make money, help others.

>Give me life/business advice
Don't study psychology.
>>1271903
I sort of want to help people, and I imagine there's lots of jobs for therapy and treatment. Might want to work with teens with drug problems.

u have a good heart anon
I've worked 7 years in a somewhat small tourism info center. I left by myself and my boss liked me and offered herself as a reference/to make a letter and even grab a coffee some time if we want to talk (she has a lot of experience in HR from past jobs).
That was almost two years ago. Is it too late to call her for a reference letter? I feel so retarded to do this now but it's my only job as of now so I can't not have any references or else interviewers will think I got fired.
>>1271873
you should've made small contact with her on a monthly or so basis
>>1271873
>Is it too late to call her for a reference letter?
Yeah, probably.
might aswell desu family
Buy as many shares of GoPro, Aduro, Threshold Pharmaceuticals, and Nanosphere, Inc. as you can, as soon as you can.
Spread the word. The higher more people that buy, the faster it will shoot up. Which it will.
And you didn't hear this from anyone.

Trumpvoter here. Should we redefine what rich is? I feel like strangling obama when he refers to ppl making over 250k a year as "obscenely rich". Thats really not that much money for a well sized family. I dont think taxes on them should go up. If your making serious money, however, like what i call "fuck you money" aka 10 million a year +, then you really are making enough money for it to be reasonable for u to pay more taxes. Its not reasonable for the waltons to pay the same tax rate as a 250k'er. If youre making a billion a year, yeah, paying 50-60%...

Flat tax is the only appropriate kind of tax. There is no point in continuing to raise taxes on the middle and upper class, but never stopping their abilities to create tax shelters. This only harms successful individuals and does nothing about Apple and Walmart keeping billions in off shore tax shelters.
There should either be an income tax or a sales tax, not both.
There should be a constitutional amendment to forbid property taxes. This is essentially "paying tribute to the kind"
You should also be able to opt out of social security and medicare...

Tax income over 50k, the 1st 50k is tax free. A steady increase from 1-20% stopping at 500k.
This doesn't include state taxes.
People who arent appalled by the concept of property tax are bona-fide shit eating inferiors.
So.... Property tax....
So if i go to the country, buy a little land, and build a mansion with my own bloody hands, someone from the government COMES ALONG AND TELLS ME IM NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE IN THE HOUSE I BUILT WITH MY OWN KEK-FUCKING HANDS.
So, you were saying property tax is reasonable? Or even more to the point, you were saying property tax is RATIONAL? Pls explain why, i have a 140 iq but thats apparently not enough to understand....
Fucking government shit eaters....

Is majoring in Business Admin a bad Idea? I started off as an accounting major, but over the past few semesters I've realize that I really don't enjoy it. I really can't see myself doing this in the future. I did think about marketing at one point, but I thought that would be a bad idea and I was right because the class I took was awful.
If I do go with the business admin route then what kind of jobs will I end up getting?
Go look in the mirror, and you'll find a future manager of a McDonald's branch. BusAdmin is literally majoring in nothing. Anyone can be an administrator with or without being taught how. Marketing is much better for business if you're really not into quant.
>>1271846
business management/administration is on the same tier as a major in psychology.
Business admin is a meme degree.
Companies don't hire people that just majored in business admin anymore, they hire people internally or are already and just have those people that already have experience get an MBA.
The reason for this is that about a decade ago, it was way too common for a software company to have a fucking business admin boomer boss that couldn't even turn the fucking computer on.
That and HR are what have turned the corporate world into the nightmare that it is today.
This degree has a very high unemployment rate for millennials
Yellen's whole speech today was hawkish, but at the same time she kept mentioning being "cautious". Do you think the fed is going to raise rates? They'd be fucking insane to pop the bubble, everyone will blame them.....
>>1271822
>Does /biz/ think a Jew in a position of power is lying
Why is this even a thread.
>We're aiming for June
>A raise in the "coming months" is probable
Gotta love the Fed.
Also, see left for why you're overreacting.
>>1271822
Bubble doesn't pop because of the FED
Happen at the end of Q3 in 2015 because of China and in Q1 2016 because of weak US and Europe.
Fed just got unlucky have rate talk around that time. Just .5 percentage points wont make a real difference compared to 0 or .25.
Is there any reason to not get in on a 401K even if my company doesn't offer matching because it's backwards as fuck?
I mean, aside from the fact that I can lose all of my money invested in that particular venture, it doesn't seem like a terrible idea.
Not really
401k with matching or percentage matching is quickly disappearing and I doubt there will be any significant number of jobs that still offer it in ten years.
If I didn't have a match, I'd just max out the Roth IRA and then put my money into other investments.
>>1271810
My first shitty retail job had matching i twas kind of hilarious.
Now that I've got a job I don't hate the only good benefits are the life insurance.
>>1271808
Depends. Do you have control of how your 401k funds are invested? How often do you intend to change jobs? What type of asset classes are you allowed to invest in? How much money do you make/intend to contribute to your 401k every year?

Is a BS in Econ worth it, or should I do something else?
>>1271703
Someone answer this.
I like business but economy might be worth more.
I just graduated from an OK school with a BS in Econ and BS in math, if you go to a good school I'm assuming BS isn't a very big deal but from a crappy school it makes a difference
The jobs I'm applying to all want Econ, don't even mention math.
Finance is good too
yeah BA econ with a bus minor
got offers from amazon
graduated a few weeks ago
no one gives a shit just graduate
I have a decently large purchase coming up ($3K-$4K) and a credit card with a $6K limit. Should I charge it all to the credit card for those sweet sweet points and then pay the balance at the end of the month, or do I charge only $1.8K to the card to stay at %30 utilization and avoid any dings on my score (~750 atm)?
pay the balance
one time swing in utilization does almost nothing to credit score
>>1271541
Great. Thanks, anon.
You mean points as credit score? I charge everything on credit to rack up miles. If your purchase is eligible try it out. My vacation every year at least one of me or my wife's ticket is paid by air miles.

Anyone on /biz/ with experience owning/managing a car lot? I want to know what it’s like. It seems like the car business has the potential to be incredibly stressful, and before I dive into it headfirst I just want to know exactly what to expect.
What are the issues I can expect to deal with on a daily basis?
Is it a high stress, high maintenance job? In other words, is it a business that requires your constant attention and keeps you up at night worrying?
If you could go back in time and pick another business, would you?
What’s the most stressful...

I was a car salesmen and I attended some auctions with my used lot manager.
you have...no experience in this industry and want to jump in?

i could never be a salesmen. I have too much of a conscience to talk people into getting shitty loans and theres no such thing as an honest salesman well sometimes but they dont last
My dad owned GM dealerships when I was a kid, and an exotic dealership for a while that imported cars from Europe and got them road certified / homologated. He made a lot of money at it but he says he wouldn't go into that today. It's always interesting to see what he thinks when we go into dealerships.
He used to have Sundays off. Now they work Sundays. They even have service open 7 days a week where I bought my Range Rover. The general manager of the dealership has his mobile phone number posted, and it's his REAL mobile number not a secondary. So he's...

Monsanto has rejected bayers first offer for a buyout
Thinking about buying monsanto and bayer call options in case they reach a deal within the next month.
what do you think fellow bizraelis?
>>1270868
bump
this is literally a "to the moon" opportunity if they reach a deal how have none of you seen this?
its all priced in you idiot, do you really think you can beat all the risk arbitrage guys with a much better read on the situation and who are paying a fraction of the commission you pay?
>>1270939
bayer has dropped recently in light of the deal. if monsanto accepts a deal theyre going to jump
If you suddenly ended up with ~$67,000, where would you invest it?
Vcit and vti. I am boring.
Vending machines.
lol
More seriously, probably just an ETF, unless you plan on actively managing it.
Oh, on second thought, long the FUCK out of the VIX
It's incredibly low right now, especially considering that nothing has changed in the world economy since it's explosion last year. With Brexit coming up, a Fed rate increase, DB's demise, Venezuela and Brazil in turmoil, a crazy US election, etc. etc... Investors will overreact as they always do and the VIX will rise. Buy in now.
For the swarm
