I have a little bit of cash saved-up and want to invest some of it. I am thinking about $3,000-$4,000.
I had done some research and was thinking of using TradeKing. What does /biz/ think of tradeking or similar stock brokers? I may go with stocks or mutual funds, but I am going to do more research first.
I've used tradeking. Low commissions and the app is decent. The site has been known to crash at times which can really screw you over when needing to place an order.

Are there others you would recommend besides tradeking? The low commission is one of the draws for me.
I don't plan on doing high-volume trading, but downtime is a little concerning in case I ever need to make a quick trade.

It all depends what your after, do you want to double your money or do you want to invest it and just be happy with a couple pounds in dividends?
How old are you? Do you have a brokerage account? Read about indexes and how to assess stocks for long term growth. I'm assuming you're not planning on spending time on a daily basis shorting so you're going to want to look for long term growth in any stock you buy. If you legitimately don't want to lose this money you shouldn't touch it until you are VERY confident in your knowledge. Until then I'd recommend putting the money into something like the Vanguard Index Fund. It's a relatively low risk way to start using that money to make more money.
