Why don't PhD:s hold the same weight in the business world as it does in other fields? If you take Economics, Statistics, Engineering... having a PhD gives you an extra needed edge to even be taken seriously.
But in the business world the most extreme cases are positions that require the applicant to have an MBA. Never have I seen anyone even caring if the applicant has a PhD. Why is it like this in business?

I did applied economics and I learned nothing about economics.
It teachs you how money works.
Depends on your focus. Economics overall is defined as "managing unlimited wants in a world with limited resources" and from there you get the macro/micro distinction and how modern humans manage their time/capital.
Going to school for econ taught me that the degree itself is intrinsically worthless. It is a signal that may or may not tell an employer to hire you over someone who doesn't have a degree. If that other person has a portfolio, you can eat your degree and fuck off.

Hello all.
I'm enrolled in a chemical engineering program at a university with 99% job placement. The average pay of those who graduate from this school in my field is $73,000 a year. The school is expensive, but I have a full ride scholarship.
Problem is, I fucking hate it. I hate these classes, these bitch ass nerd students. I hate grinding 60 hours a week for a degree in a field I don't give a rat's ass about.
What I enjoy is building things. Not designing them. But I'm not sure if dropping out and going to trade school is worth...

my mother passed away this and fortunately for me she left a decent amount of money so I wouldn't be scrimping and scrapping for my life. she wanted me to not just get by so she set up a decent life insurance policy and had her house.

Your options for a good living today are:

Not necessarily true. That only goes for union jobs and even so, within 3 years you are making $30/hr.
I've gone the union route with paid for tradeschool while being in the field and also went the nonunion route, which is a free-for-all. If you go non-union and prove your ability to learn fast and do what you are told, you can reach journeyman level and pay within a couple years. It is also more lucrative than union jobs if you immerse yourself in your work and make it your life. Union is your best bet...
