Personal I paid £20 for a key online and used the win10 pro x64 iso from Microsoft.

I did try the win 10 upgrade from windows 7 when it was first offered but I blue screened so reinstalled 7. This time around though I just used the iso to do a fresh install, fuck upgrading every again. I'd only recommend a clean install.

Reinstalled without losing files twice and did nothing, ran powershell commands, dos commands and nothing.

Win10 is a decent OS if you don't mind Microsoft knowing literally everything about you and showing ads.
But then, you don't care that Google already does both, so maybe this will be fine too.
Other than that it's just another Windows.
Win10 starts up really fast, if that's a selling point for you. Takes literally 10 seconds to start a computer. It's fantastic.
The downside of the OS is that not everything is compatible with Win10. Not yet anyway.

Windows 10 is basically a functional windows 8/8.1 that reverts back to the usual windows layout.

You can restore your OS back within 31 days of installing Windows 10. I went from win7 to win10. Haven't regretted it, haven't gone back. The whole "tracking your info" stuff is.... bullshit? I have Windows 10 and haven't had any of the technical problems that people have complained about, and if you've used Facebook or Google in the past 10 years, people have been "spying" (read: collecting data for adware) on you since then anyway. Well I have used 10 Pro for a while and it's really really bad and unstable piece of shit if you do anything else with your computer than play games. For gaming it's ok but not good.

Win 8.1 is shit but more stable than 10 but would not want to use it for anything work related. For gaming it's actually best option until 10 becones more stable.

Win 7 Pro is the best option still because it's all rounder and you can do anything with it and it's the most stable and secure windows at the moment.

Win XP... well only if you do not use the computer online and / or play retro games.

Basically with win10 you have the option of participating in this cloud software shit where they'll gather non personal information from your computer to see what features you're using, how you're using them, etc... They spend a lot of time and money developing these things and they like to know which ones were worth their effort basically. Regardless, most people turn this feature off.

Cortana can learn your location and where you work to check for traffic, the weather, etc.... This information is stored in Cortana's memory (same with siri etc...) so their product can seem more useful to you the more you use it.

Cortana can also be turned off.

Aside from these two features, which are optional, it's basically a cross between the good parts of win7 and win8.1 (what little their was).

But yeah as I said it's optional. Give it a shot, see how it works, and switch back if it's not for you. Nothing but loonies on 4chan. Stable and fast. With an SSD I boot in about 15 seconds.

All new machines are being provisioned with Win-10 by default at the factory. Win-7, and 8.x will be EoL'd. It's inevitable, you *WILL* move to Win-10, or above, eventually.
