Hey, looking to pick up a MA, as my condition went to shit and i put on way to much chub
college offers these:Aikido, Capoeira, Judo, JuJutsu, Karate, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, NinJutsu Tae Kwon Do
wich one would be best suited to loose the weight and build up condition?
>>757247
muay thai or judo
everything else on the list is garbage. not even trolling
>>757247
Muay Thai if you do it for cardio.
Judo if you want a style you can stick with forever.
>>757247
If you're interested in fitness, look for Capoeira, Judo, Muay Thai and TKD or Karate if they're good.
If you want the bonus of fighting, pick Judo or Muay Thai. If you want to avoid fighting, go with Capoeira.
New to airsofting, been once but went in just some walking pants and a grey hoodie. I've decided im going to buy some gear for it and was wondering if anyone would recommend and certain pieces of kit, certain camos etc? Anything will be very helpful
Look around the local goodwills for uniform pieces in different camos.
I got a pair of us military combat trousers in desert, light urban and woodland camouflage all together for less than $20.
It's not even hard.
Depends on your price range. But go on Evike, Airsoft GI, local stores. Also Jet Desert Fox, Evike, and Airsoft GI all have awesome youtube channels.
Military surplus store are great , example i buyed yesterday a Jigsaw Cargo pants (jigsaw is the camo belgian army uses ) and a Combat Fleece sweater .
The sweater fits perfectly under my tactical vest and are really confortable , the pants are confortable and hot enough for western europe woods ;D and all of that costed me only 50€ (45€ for the sweater 5 € for the pants
last week my 3 month gym membership expired and i didn't renew it because of the prices there. i pause for a week and i already started feeling like an inactive shit. i only tried out the 3 months option because i planed to join a martial arts gym after that ( mma or simply muay thai if i can find serious gyms ). i'm still young and i could perform well in competition about a couple of months or a year and i have time for that. however i haven't found a serious martial gym yet, i have a few option in mind but i didn't try out any of them yet.

I have some experience with arts and no experience with weights (some with bodyweight, tho)
If you want to conserve your weightlifting mindset, you're best thinking of MAs as cardio. If you're already built a bit, it will contribute to get you slimmer/burn fat. Denfinitely no mass gaining, unless you're just starting. Also, it's lots of fun, if that's waht you enjoy. Much better than jogging for cardio.
By all means take a self-defence class, but be sure they're serious (try http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/self-defense.htm for example).
>>756972
how would you recommend balancing training days with lifting days ?
>>756974
No idea, friend. I have never done weights, and only did bodyweight as compliment to MA.
If you can find a place that does 1h classes (as opposed to 1,5h most do) you can probably use that as cardio before weights workout, I guess?
Interleaving wight days with 1,5h MA days will probably leave you exhausted in a matter of weeks. While not building mass, MAs will still train muscles for resistance and explosiveness, and the shit will leave you sore. Probably.
I think it's best I leave this question...

if that is you
1) cut your hair, you do not look like miyata.
2) your jab is too stiff
3) why do you take so long to throw your backhand
4) your front foot is too flat
>>756959
You're planting your feet too much and not moving your head enough.
>>756959
Seen worse desu
Hey /asp/, I was wondering,
Why is it that MA/ combat sports instructors (generally pretty ripped guys or at least in good condition) make all their students do so much calisthenics when you can read everywhere that weight training is an "easier", more efficient way of improving your strength?
Like, do they want their students to stay average until they actually become pros?
What's your vision on strength and body conditioning in general in regards of what's needed in martial arts?
>>756767
Its one of the faults of tradition, sometimes you do stuff that isn't efficient because thats what they did in the old days and they didnt know any better.
It's a case of a guy teaching the way he was taught, because his teacher taught him that way and so on
>>756767
So they can do it in the club without expensive and non idiot proof kit. They assume that the majority of their students won't work out otherwise at home.
Weight training is better by far but sometimes calisthenics can be good too and is obviously easier to train groups in. Also to get results weight training takes as much tutelage and work as the rest of the nights class.
It's also that for most combat sports you need to be loose and not stiff. Using weights in the wrong way (for martial arts or combat sports) will just bulk you and make you slow. Stronger but slow and that's not good for most stand up martial arts
Will there ever be another fighter like him?

What martial art looks really cool to onlookers but is still practical to learn?

How long should I train before I start amateur fighting?
So far it's been almost 2 years (boxing)
When you know you can win.
>>756731
You learn more from real fights, anon.
So if you want to learn, you should have been entering amateur competition long ago IMO.
When your daily route is 4-5 miles
When you can spar effectively for 6 rounds
When you can work the heavy bag aggressively for 6 rounds
When your coach thinks you're ready.
So I just recently purchased a penny board and was looking for areas where I could practice without looking like an idiot, and I found a place that might be a good spot but idk if it's legal to skate there. It's an abandoned bank that hasn't had anyone in there in about three years and has a pretty good parking lot but it has a lot of signs that say no roller blading or skateboarding. Are those signs still up to date or are they expired?
Here's more pictures of the area
So I started boxing this week. I sparred yesterday (nothing too serious, only focusing on body) and holy shit it's hard and tiring. I felt so slow and akward, like I didn't know what to do. I also felt really weak. What should I focus on to make myself better. I also need to work on slipping and footwork. When I shadow box I also feel pretty awkward. Idk why.
Anybody got tips to help me improve? (Obviously keep training but I mean stuff to focus on)

Remember, you don't just shoot your fist out, you also bring it back.
Remember, hip rotation separates a roundhouse kick from a strong roundhouse kick.
>>756542
I mean aside from some sneaky (and very fucking painful) kyokushin lowkicks all roundhouse kicks will use a ton of hip rotation. Fuck kyo people can really do some short painful low kicks
Is there any way a boxer could win a fight with someone who does a kicking martial art like Muay Thai or would they just get their ass handed to them
Just wondering because I'm gonna start taking boxing and was wondering what would happen if I ran into someone on the street who did something like Muay Thai, would I just get embarrassed or would I stand a fighting chance.
>>756429
>Is there any way a boxer could win a fight with someone who does a kicking martial art like Muay Thai
Yes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ7bbmjtAB0
It could be said that techniques such as jabs, roundhouse kicks, hooks, etcetera, are just tools that are used by more fundamental things.
These fundamental things could be said to be reaction time, speed, accuracy, and power.
With your power, accuracy, speed, and reaction time, you could use hooks, roundhouse kicks, jabs, etcetera.
>>756432
Strategy and tactics may also be added to these fundamental things.
Dress shoes and suits for stunt professionals: what clothing and shoe manufactures produce products suitable for formal outings, parkour, and fighting?

Just don't get your suit tailored tight as fuck like the kids are doing these days, and you'll be fine.
With fighting shoes, you can't go wrong with low-cut oxford boots.
The weight might slow your kick down a little bit, but it's not steel-toed, so it's lighter because of that, and it's also lighter because of the low cut. The extra mass relative to a lighter shoe also makes it so your boot packs a bit more of a punch in your kicks.
>>756411
i know this isnt /fa/ but is there any other shoes you'd recommend that are of a similar style? I just want something light and comfortable that I could theoretically throw a kick in.
Who does /asp/ have for this one and why
>>756349
If Aldo doesn't have ring rust and Conor doesn't get in his head, Aldo should take this one. Those are BIIIIIG IFs.
I also think it's interesting that both fighters are very big for their weight class and cuts shit load of weight. If we get to the 4th and 5th, all bets are off.
>>756349
I have Aldo taking this, I will admit that I didn't see Mcgregor beating Chad Mendes, however giving that Chad mendes only had a two week training camp i will give him the benefit of the doubt. Aldo is just a different animal than the rest of the division and to be honest it is the toughest division in the UFC.
>>756353
I think They will both move up to 155 lbs division, win or lose barring a rematch. The weight cuts are becoming to much for Aldo also it would give Renan Barou(sp) a chance to take the 145lb belt and Aldo a chance to take the 155lbs belt solving Nova Uniaos weight cutting problems. Also Connor Mcgregor looks like death making weight for 145 and will probably need to move up anyway.
Hey /asp/, what does your modern day Ultimate Fighting Challenge look like? Pick a martial artist to represent one of eight styles of your choosing to find out which martial art reigns supreme in 2015. Same rules as UFC 1, bareknuckle, no time limit, kicks and knees to the head of a grounded opponent, basically no-holds bared.
Here's what mine would look like.

Who do you guys think would win? I got Keenan or Nieky.
You realise the ching chong dancers would just get demolished by the actual fighters again, right?
>>756268
Yeah but that's part of the fun! I would even like to see pro wrestlers like John Cena face kickboxers and bjj fighters.
what martial art do i practice to move super fast and get behind my opponent before they realize
i want to fight like in my japanese animes
You just need to be fast, getting behind your opponent is just getting behind your opponent.
It doesn't really matter what martial art you do.
ninjitsu
>>756196
That's exactly one the things they train in freestyle wrestling. I think it's done in other styles too, such as folkstyle or greco-roman, but I can only speak for freestyle.
