I went into career mode to see what they changed, since I never got far beyond that since I was never happy about my custom guy, and I noticed this option was greyed out.
I know it's a DLC thing, but what exactly does it do?

Sure, it can be useful in the same way that dancing or rhythmic gymnastics could be useful. It won't teach you how to fight though.

It teaches you how to swing a sword and thrust a spear. That gets you a lot further in fighting ability than gymnastics or the tango.
