ok so i got this kind of vivarium (picture)
and i was making some research on what snake should i get
the tank is quite tall so i need some kind of snake that will love some climbing and wont be to big when grown up
i was thinking corn snake
but if you have any suggestions on which i should get please let me know (alos post picture if posible )
>>2157389
too small for an adult corn snake. you'd need to buy a bigger viv in a few months
>>2157397
yeah im afraid that would be the case, maybe if i get a male?
>>2157401
No. Males just grow slower.
so any other snake suggestions?
That size terrarium is not appropriate for any snake commonly kept in pet trade really. Single garter snake maybe but the height would be wasted. It's mostly intended for arboreal lizards, geckos, tree frogs.
Baby green tree python could be kept in it briefly but will outgrow it in short order.
>>2157389
That's a chameleon tank, not a snake tank anon.
Get a regular fishtank, they're just fine.
a tank like this should be fine. just make sure you make it so the snake cant open the lid (which they can i know from experience)
op here
thanks for al the feedback, i thought thers a snake that would like that kind tank but ok
ill just use another one aproximately same dimensions as tihis one but laying down
so wil corn snake have enough space even when its adult?or should i get any other snake? and which snake?
>>2157518
Little more floor space would be good all around.
Not educated about corn snakes but you're going to want at least 4 feet by 2.5 feet for any snake.
>>2157389
What is this centimeter shit? This is America, jack. Here, we use inches.
Freedom isn't divisible by 10.

>That size terrarium is not appropriate for any snake commonly kept in pet trade really.
It's not the size, it's the shape. That is an arboreal enclosure. Emerald Tree Boa, Green Tree Python, and there are a ton of much smaller snakes that will comfortable fit without needing it to be upgraded. For a GTP or ETB you'll have to upgrade to a bigger one after 3 years.
Pic related. I think this is actually the same enclosure, but I'd have to go measure. It's in storage now. I kept a juvenile ETB in it.
>>2157518
floor space should be an absolute minimum of length of tank + width of tank = snake total length. eg, 60cm x 45cm tank floor space = bare minimum for 105cm snek.
For babies, just keep them in plastic tubs of appropriate size until they're ready for their adult tank.
>>2157532
get a venom snake. make sures its solid before you microwave it.
>>2157540
beatuful snake :)
but GTP and ETB are frigin expesinve 300 and up :/
not sure about them tho..im willing to spend 100 maybe little bit over but thats all
i dont know what to do :D
>>2157542
gotcha
>>2157546
buy a larger viv and get a cheaper snake?
>>2157559
yeah thats my plan for now
>>2157561
>>2157559
No, don't buy a viv. Buy an aquarium. Much, much cheaper, better quality, tighter seals, and can serve more purposes once you're done with them. You can buy a lid seperately.
I have 4 vivs laying around here in disuse because they serve no purpose other than non-aquatic reptiles and hamsters. In fact, I just threw away a $200 exo-terra 2x3x3 glass viv. It's in my trash can in the garage.
>>2157565
alright will keep that in mind
>>2157565
>2x3x3
Let's try that again ... 2x2x3.

Well, lessons learned, you know? If I had to do it all over again, I'd start out with a 75-150 gallon aquarium. On Craigslist or Varagesale or something, you can get it one for $30 if you pick it up. When I had more money, I'd go straight to PVC. Which is what i do now for my new reptiles. PVC everywhere. The heat/humidity retention of those cages is insane. Saves so much work.
off topic but you could get a tarantula for that viv, arboreal tarantulas can be 5-9 inches large depending on the specie, if youre fine with it not being a snake that viv is perfect for an arboreal tarantulas
>>2157559
>>2157576
Yep this is really the way to go. Spend money on a good PVC tank and spend less on the snake. Which isn't to say don't be careful about snake quality. You do want to buy from a breeder online or at expo, or at least a good reptile specialty shop (that sources from breeders or breeds in-house). However what you don't need to be doing is looking at expensive morphs for corns or ball pythons. The normals for both of those species are plenty beautiful as it is. A lot of morphs seem to be more 'it's different' rather than 'it's better'.
OP, you don't wanna go with a tree python as your first snake anyway. There are many way easier and friendlier and cheaper snakes.
If you want a PVC enclosure just google animal plastics, they make PVC enclosures specifically for snakes and you can buy everything you need with it too.
>>2157598
ill go with the snake, but thanks
>>2157576
>>2157607
ok so i was thinkig ill go and buy PVC and make it myself also perfec dimensions to fit in my room
for the snake il just ask a frined of mine who has quite a few snakes and ask her where she buys them or if she sels me one of her own, this way i get everything i need and it will be the cheapest way
bad thing is that i probably wont have many snakes to chose from
>>2157622
What city or general area do you live in? We might be able to help you find something.
>>2157678
central europe
but im not sure if ordering snake online is a good idea or is it
>>2157691
Ah, okay, I won't be much use then. I have a good knowledge of the expos and breeders around the US, but nothing for that side of the pond. Even most breeders won't tango with shipping oversees because customs is such a headache.
I've only dealt with one import/exporter but the transaction was domestic so I didn't have to get my hands dirty.
>>2157745
yeah man the customs here are pain in the ass, i ordered a phone on the internet (chinese website)
it was sent from netherlands warehouse, and the package was on our customs like 1 week they wrote me letter i have to send them some aditional information about package and so on...plain pain in the ass
appreciate you trying to help me tho
>>2157691
check ebay for osb terrariums, they are dirt cheap and insulate better than full glass tanks. you could also build your own, should be cheaper and easier to work with than pvc. I've even seen people make vivs out of polystyrene foam.

A really easy way to diy a wood terrarium is to buy a kitchen cabinet kit. The come in good sizes to be used s terrariums. It's basically just a wood box, pre cut and drilled, hardware included. Screw a piece of melamine to the back side (they usual come with a thinner fiber board backing), add sliding doors to front. Drill ventilation holes. Seal bottom and side joints with silicone.
>>2157565
why you get rid of it? was it broken because there are a lot of things you can do with an exo-terra that size
>>2158367
Not really. It involves living creatures. And I don't want or need more than I already have. It's not like I can use it as a spice rack or shower caddy.
