So there was a very young kitten in the road today, so I pulled over and took him home. I planned on giving him to a no-kill shelter, but they won't take him until Monday. He's very frightened and hisses and will try to scratch/bite me. I've put him in a large box with food and water and I plan on leaving him alone for a while.

What should I do to calm him? Id like to get him to where he isn't a vicious little asshole before I give him to the shelter on Monday/Tuesday.

Pic related, he's a little cutie. He has no tail though, what breed is he?

He's probably a domestic stray kitten. Manx cats have no tail, but this one probably lost it. Just leave it in the box, maybe put him a towel or some soft rag inside. Try giving him food from your hand, maybe he won't be so defensive.

Found him at my boyfriend's parents' house, and he decided he wanted to keep him. Currently doing 3oz wet food/day and free access to dry.
My other cat doesn't seem to like him. He tries to keep his distance and hisses if the kitten gets close.

Fun fact, since the gene that determines coat color is on a strand of DNA that influences behavioral traits, Tabbies are more friendly in nature than any other pattern.

Pic related is nit, but does look very much like, my cat.

"Our" (We're looking after her, but I must admit we haven't heard shit from the original owners in some time) female, grey tabby cat, was making throaty noises earlier, like she had something bothering her throat. She stopped after a minute or two, but now she is making what sound like short, intense hissing noises. Any idea what could be up? All I can think of is hair ball blockage and it's got me worried sick. She's a sweet cat, and even though I don't consider her my own yet, I don't want her to suffer or be in pain, but it's fucking 3AM here. What am I supposed to do?

I was thinking of starting a new thread but since there's a cat general up I'll ask here:

Do you guys have any recommended techniques or products for grooming a fat cat that can't clean its own butt very well?

I know the most obvious permanent solution is to make him lose weight, but unfortunately this is my roommate's cat and I don't control his diet. I just don't want him sitting all over my house with dried shit stuck to his butt.

I can honestly get past all of that, since she's so damn old and he loves her so much. Pets can be spoiled brats, whatever.

The one thing that drives me absolutely crazy, however, is that she never, EVER covers up her shit. It smells so bad when she takes a shit. It takes like, one second cat, why do you do this to me?

I've got a question, as someone who is more experienced in dogs. I know Orijen/Acana is top-notch dry food for dogs, but I've read that cats should eat wet food as a general rule.

What's the wet cat food equivalent of Orijen/Acana?

>>2148345
Thanks anons. I ask because her pattern isn't so stripey, it's all very blended.
>>
>>2148346
The reason for wet food support in the cat community is because its believed cats often don't hydrate themselves properly unless they can draw hydration from their food source. Personally I don't subscribe since in my cat's particular case, I monitor her water intake from her water bowl and she seems to drink from it enough regularly. I prefer dry food as a base for her diet with more occasional wet food because wet food diets are said to promote tooth decay.

Sorry that doesn't answer your question, I just wanted to throw my two cents in there.

I found her a couple years ago on the property of a house my cousin bought. The owner passed away and I assume he cared for her since she had a collar, but she was very thin and hungry. The vet guesstimated she was 2 or 3 at the time. Now she lives with me and is very loving/clingy. Drools all over my bed and cries for me when I'm in the shower or at the store.
>>
>>2148352
Thanks for your input. I don't know, I have mixed feelings about it. I've never met a male cat that hasn't gotten FUS, though, which makes me inclined to believe there's at least some truth to the claim.

I don't know, the chillest cat I've ever seen was a tortoiseshell. Her name is oreo, and she's the most absolutely docile thing ever. Never hisses, growls, scratches, bites only playfully and without hurting etc. You can just pick her up and put her on your shoulder and she's content to lay there like a parrot while rubbing her face against yours and licking your ear. I'm actually afraid for her because she lives with my mom and little brother, and she won't defend herself even when the toddler is being mean.

Advice for getting 2 female cats to get along? :( We adopted our first kitty, Louise, about 2 years ago when she was a few months old. We adopted a new kitty, Rose, 3 weeks ago (she's about 5 years old) and took our time introducing them. We kept them in separate rooms (switching them every morning so they could get used to each others' scent) for about a week, then over a few days following that doing face-to-face introductions with a small window pane between a door so they could see each other.

There was some occasional hissing during this time, but eventually they chilled out and seemed fine. Over the past week we've let them both have free reign of the place together as long as we're home and keeping them in separate rooms when we're not there, just in case. They were mostly fine, or they seemed to be. They would chase each other, and maybe we were mistaking play for aggression. Louise was definitely doing the guarding the litterbox thing, but they would both play with toys, scratch the posts, lay around and knead, etc. so we thought everything was ok.

(2/2)

Yesterday, things came to a head, and while I was at work I got a text that they had gotten into a nasty spat, with hissing, yowling, and paws being used. They got separated again and we tried a re-introduction today with the same result. Rose is VERY lazy and laid-back, and Louise is a feisty instigator. I think Rose got tired of her shit and started standing her ground and Louise can't handle it.

I'm scared that this is a personality incompatibility because Louise is honestly a handful. It's taken us a long time to get her to be even remotely chill and her behavior can flip like a switch, whereas Rose is the laziest thing ever and just occasionally wants to chase a toy. Are these just growing pains? Is Louise too old to get used to a 2nd cat? Is there any way we can get them to get along? I'd feel beyond horrible if we had to take Rose back, although I know the adoption agency would understand.

Left is Louise, right is Rose.
>>
>>2148825
I'm in the same situation, and honestly no idea what am I supposed to do. I have an older fattie who just wants to sleep and chill and a new kitten who is wild af and jumps around. She attacks fatty and fatty is afraid of her, hisses all the time. I think I'm going to just force them to spend time with each other until they get used to it. Some people told me it took months for their older cat to get used to the new one. Rose is adorable btw.

Thank you! She is the fluffiest of fluffers. We're going to try slowly re-introducing them after a quarantine for a few days (on vacation this week, woo!) and hope for the best. What you described is kind of what led up to the spat. Louise would fuck with Rose by charging her, batting at her when Rose was sleeping on a chair or something, etc. and finally Rose was like BITCH and yeah... the adoption people said it usually takes a least a month for girl kitties to get along, and we're only a little past the 3 week mark. It was just going so well, and now this! Best of luck to you as well.

I have to put my two cents in.

The nicest cat ive ever seen is a black and white tabby thats at... wait for it... my local debate club.

The debate club is hosted in a tea shop and the tea shop has a cat. So debating kitteh just patrols the chairs looking for scraps of cake and milk.
Ive actually seen people pick her up and stroke her on a chair, and she just sits there and accepts it.

My cat delivered her kittens somewhere outside and brought only one kitten back home
also I don't think she is lactating what do I feed her to make her to?
>>
>>2148707
Sorry for your loss. She was a cute kot.
>>
>>2148854
What makes you think she's not lactating?

The main reason a cat wouldn't lactate is if she's starving or otherwise has a nutritional deficiency. Pregnant and lactating females require more food than otherwise healthy adult cats of the same weight.

A bit late, but generally, people say a mixed diet of wet and dry food is best. A bit dry for the teeth, rest wet for hydration.

I'm in Europe so I can't help you with specific brands, but here, anything significantly cheaper than 1€/100g is shit. Also anything with sugar, lots of things that are not meat and animal byproducts instead of proper meat.

I live alone and am working a full time job.
I wake up at 8 AM, get ready, leave and come back home at about 9PM
On the weekends I like to get megadrunk.
Can I take care of a cat in these conditions? Should I get a cat?
Also, I was thinking of getting a black cat and I wanna give it a cool creepy edgy name. How's coffin? Any other ideas?

Cats are known for their independence but they do need some amount of attention and companionship. Especially depending on the individual cat- some can be super needy.

I don't have a lot of experience myself that would support it, but I guess maybe one idea for you would be to get two cats so that they could keep eachother company while you aren't around? I dunno, I'd want somebody else to confirm if that was a good idea because I personally haven't tried it.

And be sure to consider your behavior when you're drunk if you'll be doing it a lot around a cat. Are you a violent drunk? Will you possibly hurt the cat? Can you be gentle enough while you're drunk? Will you be unable to recognize when the cat wants to be left alone if you want to bother it while you're very drunk? Give it thought.

Also Coffin doesn't sound like a good name. Name it Spooky. Or go ask /x/- you'll get a few people complaining "not muh paranormal" but I think they're generally outweighed by the amount of people there that love the fuck out of black cats and also love thinking up spooky names for them.
>>
>>2149253
Thanks a lot. I was actually considering getting two cats.
Regarding my behavior when drunk, I highly doubt I'll hurt the cat in any way. I am either a funny or a depressed drunk, based on how much and what I had, so I think that won't be a big issue.
I do prefer a needy, clingy cat, but I'm not a neet anymore and I can't keep it company all day.
I guess I'll give it some more thought, and maybe get 2 cats if people confirm that's a good idea
>>
>>2149226
Don't get a kitten, they need a lot of attention.
>>
>>2149258
There's this really cute 1 year 2 months old cat I found on an adoption site.
Would that be too young still?
>>
>>2149265
Eh kittens require attention and discipline. If you leave a kitten alone all day it's going to be very very lonely and your house is probably going to get rekt. I have a kitten now and it's like having a kid, you gotta keep an eye on it all the time. I'd suggest getting and older cat and make sure it's a peaceful one who likes to chill all day, like my other cat. I leave the older one home alone for 2 days (weekend) and there's no problem as long as there's food and water in the bowl.
>>
>>2149265
Forgot to add, a cat that old is okay but it depends on the personality.
>>

Either get an older one or two young ones (preferably ones that knew each other before, like siblings).

How often should a cat pee? The cat I adopted 4 months ago only pees every 12 hours or so, sometimes longer. I assumed it was normal but my friends cat pees every few hours.

He never seems in pain or shows any hesitance to use his tray, but he does flood it and get his paws wet because his bladder is so full. (Also I know he isn't peeing somewhere else because he is with me 24/7. He's a cat that has to either be on your lap or under your feet) Is it something I should be concerned about?

That is unusual. Typically adult cats will pee 2-4 times daily, but this will vary depending on fluid intake, age, health, etc. Are you feeding him wet food or dry? If you gently pinch/tent the loose skin around his neck/shoulders, does it immediately snap back to conform against his body or do so slowly? (Google skin tugor test if you're confused by what I'm asking here)

I found some random kitten in the middle of the road for no reason. Upon closer inspection it had very gunky eyes/nose and maggots protruding from what I thought was it's rectum. I have a cat myself and didn't want to risk giving a potential illness to her, so I put it in a carrier and put it in my backroom which was cool with some water and food.

Upon arriving at the vet turns out it's actually an injury that was covered in maggots. The vet said they couldn't say just yet whether it was a lost cause or not, and to call back tomorrow to find out if it could be saved. I'm a sap for animals, and this has been bothering me all day and had to say something.

Does my cat look like she's pregnant?
I found her 1 month ago, she followed me home and has always been extremely docile and tame, since the first day. She never meows, only inside a cage on a car ride, so I think she's either spayed or is pregnant.
>>
>>2150257
I also don't know if it's anemia or pregnancy, but she sleeps all day long and gets tired easily.
>>
Do you think I should have my cat's teeth cleaned? I'm worried because he's 12, so anesthesia might be too much for his senior body. The only health problems he's ever had was tapeworms when he was 3 or 4 and a stress induced bleeding stomach ulcer (he grew up as an only cat but was living at a house with other cats at the time. He lives alone now) a few years ago and is generally active and doesn't seem to be slowing down at all, but I still don't know if he can handle being put under. His breath smells awful
On that note, are there any things I can do to improve his oral health at home?
>>
>>2150258
If she's spayed, I think that might be normal for house cats. Mine is like that for 5 years already. Just sleeps, eats and cuddles all day.

RV anon, I hope you find your cat. I thought my kitty had gotten out once (she's strictly indoor-only) and it was awful.

It turns out she has gotten stuck in the ceiling (that is, between the 1st-floor ceiling and 2nd-floor floor) and was too proud to meow for help for about 3 days. What a terrible time. I bought her collar shortly afterward.

My tuxedo guy is an ultra snugglebug, though. He's super laid-back, friendly, never bites or scratches and I've only ever heard him hiss was one time when an outdoor cat was standing outside the back door taunting him.

Pic related. He crawled into bed and sat down directly on my arm this morning and wouldn't move until I'd rubbed his belly for almost an hour.

Why does my cat doesn't like catnip anymore?
The day I bought a catnip plushie it went crazy for it.
Now I bought the catnip itself it just won't care for it. Tried spreading it on her new scratcher, with no luck. I also tried mixing it with a bit of water and alcohol, no luck either.
What the fuck is going on?
>>
>>2150580
Stay the fuck away from sick animals, you mong. YOU can get sick.
If you really want to help it, trap it with a cat-trap, bring it to the vet, and let a professional care for it. That is if you're willing to spend the money.

P.S.
if you're not willing to spend the money then why would you be willing to risk your well being?
>>
>>2150759
Some cats just don't like catnip. There are lots of cats that do not react to it at all. Maybe she just really liked the toy itself.
>>
Why the fug is my cat so chatty? I've never seen a cat so talkative. She meows at everything. Literally everything. You look at her, she meows. You touch her, she meows or chitters. I don't know if it's a contentment sound or if she's meowing because she's annoyed? Or wants attention? My old cat never made a peep, so this is kind of odd to me.
>>
>>2150257
If you haven't yet, take her in to get that eye looked at. They can confirm or deny pregnancy while you're there.

>>2150282
12 years old isn't bad at all, and most cats should have at least one dental during their lifetimes. Anesthesia is so safe these days, especially if you do bloodwork beforehand to check his organ functioning... it's very worth the risk considering it's not at all uncommon for cats to hit 20 years. If his breath is very bad, it's probably because of tartar buildup, which will (if it hasn't already) cause damage to oral tissues like painful gingivitis, gum recession, tooth decay and/or loss, etc. The bacteria from periodontal disease can also potentially fuck up the heart and kidneys in the long term.

Trust me, you'll actually be saving yourself money if you get the dental done BEFORE his mouth starts getting severely fucked up. Extractions and time under anesthesia are the biggest cost factors for dentals. If you wait too long and he needs to have six teeth yanked out - that's when you can get reamed with $800+ bills.

As for home tooth care, the best method is brushing their teeth, but cat/owner willingness varies with this. There are flavored, animal-safe toothpastes you can buy to get a better clean/make the process more pleasant for the cats (mine actually enjoy getting their teeth brushed because they love the poultry-flavored C.E.T. toothpaste). The process is weird to cats so they need to be eased into it. Otherwise, there are drinking water additives, oral gels and sprays, and treats/food specifically intended for plaque control. Here's a list of VOHC-approved products: http://www.vohc.org/accepted_products.htm

Keep in mind that once plaque has hardened into tartar, it's very hard to remove outside of dental cleanings. If your cat has a lot accumulated already, it's definitely better to just get his teeth cleaned professionally, then employ home dental care methods to keep them in good shape from then on.
>>
>>2150337
Get your cat spayed like a responsible owner and you'll never have to worry your clueless, incompetent ass about kitten care again.

Are they at 4 and 8 o'clock? What you're seeing may be the ducts of the anal glands, and they may have visible material in them, especially if they're impacted. Any worms you'd be seeing around her cornhole would be white, not black. If you notice her scooting, licking/biting at her ass a lot, or swelling in the indicated areas - it's probably the anal glands.

Most likely it's just dried poop, though. I wouldn't fret.

>>2150580
Yes, something's wrong with it, I don't know what. It's probably not rabies (typically they foam) but be careful. There aren't many diseases you can catch from casual contact with cats, though... don't get scratched or bitten, don't neglect to wash your hands after touching it and you'll be fine.

>>2150869
Some cats are just really fucking chatty. I do pet-sitting for a guy that has one that pretty much never shuts up. The most likely reason for the vocalizing, though, is that she's bored, especially if she's an indoor-only cat. Try playing with her more and see if the behavior curbs.

Big signs with pics. Cut a fluorescent poster board in half and stick a pic on it. Place them around where the RV was parked and possibly around the impound yard. You don't need a lot- but place them strategically so that people entering and leaving the area will see them. At this point, it's going to relentless, visible, and notable advertising that gets her back. I have used this to find my own lost cat, and in reverse to return list animals. Best of Luck

Thanks, his name is Mowgli, like from the jungle book

He really is a wild animal though, he's a Bengal. He is a very....unique cat though. He won't drink water from a dish, he will ONLY drink from a running tap or from a filled bathroom basin. He's also noisy as all hell. I can't remember the last time he DIDNT wake me up in the middle of the night because he was hungry. He's starting to get old now though, he doesn't go out and come back home bloodied from turf wars with other cats anymore, and he's much more willing to actually be held by me. I love him though

My domestic shorthair was born without a tail. Sometimes it happens when the mother cat is very stressed or ill during pregnancy. Her spine ends right at her hip, so she walks kind of oddly.

It is possible he had a tail and lost it, but I think it's probably more likely he was born without one, if no one was obviously caring for him.

It can cause complications, but won't necessarily be any trouble. My girl has occasional issues with wetting the bed, and like I said has a funny walk, but that's about it.

As for keeping the kitten calm, just lock him in a room with you and hang out with him. Feed him, give him water, don't overstimulate him. Just sort of hang out in the same room and don't try to touch him until he's calmed down, so he gets used to you and doesn't see you as a threat. Move slowly and talk quietly.

If the kitten was feral, which it might've been, it could honestly take weeks before it calms down.

Oh he did

But he also got his ass whooped a number of times

That picture is old so you can't tell but he came home one night with a literal hole in his head at the corner of his left ear. Mowgli don't fuck with no bitch nigga cats

I've seen him chase off a raccoon a few times

A few weeks ago he chased a raccoon off my back yard at night. He came home completely covered nose to tail in swamp mud (my house is backed up to a tidal swamp). Of course he wouldn't let me clean him up so he just walked around with mud on him for a week

Serious question, her belly seems to be getting bigger.
>>
>>2153834
Burying their turds is a feline instinct. A litterbox is usually the only place in your house they can do that.
>>
>>2153834
They know to shit on it because it's the worst smelling, most asthma aggravating thing in their environment.

"Oh this smells toxic, should probably shit on it"

Just one time. Then they have learned.
>>
>>2153705
Could have pesticides on it. I didn't think my roommates/landlord/neighbors sprayed pesticide on my lawn but it turns out they do. Maybe wash it first in case.

I'd say it about anything if it was a domesticated infant animal. Fucker exploited it for fake internet points and left it to die. Sociopathic bullshit.

It's an animal. It's meant to survive in nature without the help of man.

This is the story of Noir
>was a huge stray that we noticed hanging around our house and eating the dogs' food
> even started coming inside through the cat flap though he would flee when when we saw him
>one night i noticed him sitting outside the cat flap and looking sorry for himself
>got a container of water for him and some dry food
>didnt trust me right away, but was happy to lap up the water
>continued leaving him food and water and eventually coaxed him over to me. he allowed me to pat him
>his stomach was bloated whilst the rest of him was stick thin, his coat was dusty and falling out
>figured he was an old boy that someone had left behind
>continued to feed and care for him for a few weeks and took him to the vet once he'd settled with us
>no microchip or tattoo, about 2 years old, quite sick but nothing too serious
>after a few weeks of TLC (tender love and chicken) he'd completely healed up
>stomach is still big as a bowling ball though

and almost a year later he hasnt left my side =)
our other cat still doesnt know what to think of him, but they tolerate each other
