A lot of people don't know this board exists.
Most people come to 4chan from /b/. /b/ is like the main attraction on this domain. It's generally the first board people hear about (and yes, that is scary). And people trickle out from there.
If you go to /vg/, you'll notice the adult sub-boards (hentai games, visual novels, etc) are having to make new General threads every few hours because they hit the bump limit. But other Generals (The Sims, for example) that aren't all porn, 404 constantly.
All of the boards that attract kids are always booming. Even /wg/ (wallpapers) and /wsg/ (work-safe GIF). But the more adult ones, like /an/ and /fit/ are really slow in comparison. Because at the end of the day, 4chan.org is really just a bunch of fucking children and the adults (or refined kids), are few and far between. Especially when you consider all the other boards are fed from /b/.

I just realized how weird that sounded. I meant ones that appealed to actual adults, and not just contained "adult (ie:explicit)" content.
I guess most people only find animals cool when they're being funny, and that's what /wsg/ and such are for

Because there aren't kiddos from other boards and reddit coming here by the boatload every day. /lit/ used to be really slow too, but now it's infested by newposters who make stupid threads about memes and YA Fiction that the mods refuse to delete.

Not sure. I only visit /an/, and 4chan in general, when I'm working. Nice to come back here after a relaxing weekend and see threads still alive.

It's the advice board for animal interaction and raising. People come here to ask for advice, and the advice is typically very high quality, and after the OP gives the whole story, it more often than not ends up being a human problem, rather than a problem animal.

I don't visit /an/ very often even though I adore animals. I am here right now because some dickhead on /DIY/ wants advice on how to commit mole genocide and I decided I needed a break from people that don't give a fuck about animals. I also like that little 4chan banner of the /an/ character whacking someone holding a cat and saying "take it to the vet!"
