I got a cat last night, he's a rescue. He's about a year old and he's extremely sweet but oh my god he has not stopped meowing. I haven't gotten any sleep. I've tried everything. I understand it's his first night and I expected him to explore/meow but not this badly.
Until I can trust him alone with my chinchilla I have to keep him in the bedroom at night and he will scream at the door to be let out, either to walk around and meow or to stalk my chinchilla.
How do I teach him not to attack/stalk my chinchilla and how do I get him to stop screaming all damn night?

Buy and install some Feliway diffusers. It is an artificial cat pheromone that calms them down and helps them settle. They are sort of pricey, but absolutely work. This will help with the meowing.
It will also help with the chinchilla, but the end solution to that problem is time. Until the cat learns the chinchilla isn't prey, he is going to stalk him/her and want him/her as a snack. But once he gets used to him/her, he won't care.

My 14 year old cat died today, his name was Tipsy and he was super friendly and sweet, would climb up onto your chest and dribble around your neck just because he loved human attention that much. I used to think he was like a wise old man, like a mini buddha cat that would lay out in the sun all day. The neighbours had some family round along with a dog and he jumped the fence and attacked him while he was sunbathing. Unfortunately by the time the dog was pulled away it was too late, and he laid down and just passed away. His eyes were still open and although there were dots of blood in his white fur I couldn't see any open wounds (although I didn't really look) so I'm not sure exactly what happened.
I feel like utter shit and I still can't believe it. My eyes hurt from crying so much.

Anyone know what to do about morning meowers?
My cat goes to sleep well and snuggles up to me as soon as it is bedtime, but wakes me up at around 5:30 am. Even after feeding her and trying to keep her calm, she won't stop meowing/purring. I don't know what she wants exactly. She's pretty talkative in general, but it's extra bad in the mornings.
We're considering getting a squirt bottle (dont want to, but not sure how to get her to quiet).
The usual routine is she wakes me, I try to fall back asleep for 20min, get up and feed her, shut the door and go back to bed as she meows loudly outside the door until I actually get up around 7 am.

I've seen many cases on People's Court about this. You can sue for vet / burial costs and emotional pain and suffering, but the latter is harder to prove. Unfortunately pets are only seen in the eyes of the law as "property" so even though they are living companions it's hard to really take legal revenge on the dog's owners since the law only is there to let you recoup what you lost financially. But if you can prove they were negligent you might get awarded something extra. Not to make this be about "winning" but more making the dog owner's suffer some so they won't do this again.

My cat used to play with his various toys but as he's gotten older he seems to have totally lost interest in them. The only thing he seems particularly interested in messing with is whatever wildlife he can get his mits on.
My parents' cat Squeaker. Last night we had to put him down, his health had taken a serious turn for the worse. He was sixteen. What I used to do with my cat was take little stickers and stick them to him. He'd go crazy spinning in circles trying to get them off, and when he finally did he'd bite at it and I'd flick the sticker back up onto him. It was a lot of fun.

I just recently rescued a 7wk old and we had a Leukemia/FIV test, 2 treatments of FeLV, 3 of FVCRP, Drontal tabs, and Rabies vaccine.
It cost around $165 for a clean bill of health. Keep in mind she had worms and was abandoned outside. We were being extra cautious, considering she had surgery to remove a gangrenous front leg.
My cat is dying of kidney failure as I type. I know I should take him to a vet to have him put to sleep, but he used the last of his strength to crawl to his favorite sleeping spot and I don't want his last few moments in a strange place filled with barking dogs.

Vocalizing can be indicative of hyperthyroidism, which is common in aging cats; in this case he would likely be eating ravenously but either not gaining weight or actively losing it. Hypertension is another possibility (and can be secondary to both hyperthyroidism and kidney disease). Both of these conditions are treatable, don't worry.

I've heard of this with hyperT/renal failure cats. Both diseases will cause an increase in thirst drive and some of them can get pretty weird about water, almost compulsive. I used to look after a hyperthyroid cat who, after diagnosis, stopped wanting to drink out of his water bowl and started sitting on the bathroom counter and yowling until someone came to turn on the tap for him.
How often do you change the water? A pet fountain may help with this behavior. They're generally recommended in cases where cats should be encouraged to drink more anyway. Otherwise, it may abate on its own as his thyroid levels begin to stabilize.

The thing about cats that makes them differ from dogs is that 90%+ of pet cats are generic "domestic (short, medium, long)-hair" rather than a specific human-controlled breed, therefore their temperaments are much more widely variable. I intentionally look for well-socialized, affectionate cats when I go to adopt. My current three greet me at the door, follow me around the house, and spend every evening lap-surfing between me and my family members. One in particular cuddles/sleeps with me nightly while his brother and sister spoon on the couch downstairs. All three quickly befriend strangers and do great with kids, and have never intentionally broken skin by biting or scratching. They just aren't completely and utterly dependent upon me and my attentions in the way dogs are, and I prefer that.
Intelligence doesn't really matter to me. One of mine is clever enough to open cupboards and screen doors, which is actually more of an annoyance than anything since it means we need to baby-lock specific doors. With dogs though, I do really like that when you point at something, pups understand to look at what you're gesturing at instead of your finger.

My cat. She's 15 and likes to spend the vast majority of her time outside. I think she must sleep literally near 22 hours a day, though. All she does is lounge in different spots outside, in the yard, porch, garden, neighbors' yards or sometimes inside in halls or beds.
She's pretty thin, though, and I'm worried her health might steadily be declining. She's never had any health issues. A few scraps and wounds here and there and last year she got a nasty infection and fever from a fight, but seems to be okay. A few weeks ago something happened in the morning where just after she woke up (had been sleeping in my room) she started gagging and vomiting constantly for around 30 minutes. Started having diarrhea too. I took her to the vet and they didn't seem to find anything wrong with her so that was weird, but no problems since.

The dry foods are formulated to meet their nutritional needs (especially a decent one not the lowest brands at crap stores), and messing with their diet can really upset their tummies easily. If you want to introduce some good wet food to give him every now and then maybe look into Weruva Cats in the Kitchen packets. My cats go insane for the Mack Jack and Sam and 1 if by Land ones. Or even just give freeze dried chicken or shrimp as treats. Though, if he's eating fine (most cats are grazers anyway) and not getting overweight you might want to get him hooked on the goodies since it can make them not want their dry.
Also what kinda ways do you play with him? Do you use a wand toy and make him run and such? Our new kitten has a crazy athletic build and I could make him pant til he's about to pass out and he would still keep going. Hard to keep up with him lol.

I don't have to worry to much about her. When I let her out she just stay in sight in the walkway. She'll just lay down on the welcome rug or look through the railings. Went to the vet because my cat literally scratched a patch of fur off herself, and apparently she has fleas.
So, my vet sold me one portion of Broadline, and said that this should be enough to get rid of them.
Is this true, or should I do more? She's an indoor cat, no idea how she even got fleas.
I'm not sure what to do with this cat but he's driving me insane. I've never had a cat so ridiculous. He doesn't listen, he attacks me if I move him away from something and try to redirect him. It's not even playful, he will actually come after me if I tell him no even though I try to be gentle and calm. He never does it to my boyfriend, who is much harsher than I am.
I feel bad because we've had him for a week now but he just keeps getting worse, it's like his brain dead or something. You can say no and move him and he will keep trying until you finally lock him in another room. The person I got him from couldn't handle him and just wanted to get rid of him as quickly as possible, she made it out like he was great but it's very obvious now.

Lots of toys, two beds, his carrier and he can pretty much go wherever he wants. I can't leave him alone for even a minute. One of my cats is 17-18 years old. She has lost weight, is slow to move, and is always breathing pretty rapidly. She has been sleeping under my desk with her head on the cool air vent. She will wander around and just lie in the middle of the floor like she usually does, but she will only travel small distances. I tried to pick her up, which she has always hated, and instead of biting my hand she just put her teeth on it and then let go.
I want to take her to the vet, but I'm afraid they will tell me she is simply nearing death, and from the docile way she has been acting compared to her very irritable and independent personality as a younger cat, I wonder if seeking help will be able to extend life much for a cat this age already.

That's been my experience too. My sister got a kitten about 3 years after we got our family cat because the family cat didn't really like her. Wouldn't let her pet him, pick him up, wouldn't sit near her, etc. The kitten took to him quite well, but he mostly just ignored her until her playing started to get on his nerves. When that happened, he'd only give her a warning, a little nip or a bat, he never tried to seriously hurt her.
There was one ridiculously cute exception though. She didn't bathe much as a kitten, definitely a smelly cat. So he wound up bathing her from time to time when she tried to cuddle up to him.

They're more companions that live along side us. They're more independent and less responsive to specific commands.
That said any animal can be conditioned, it's just not as simple and quick.
Cats learn to meow as kittens, primarily for attention from their mother, siblings or human. if the cat isn't in pain or deprived of food or water he's likely meowing for attention... He wants you to to let him out, pet him or play with him. Just ignoring him is really the best and only real sollution. He will eventually learn that meowing at night= no attention. Once he relaxes give him treat and some cuddles and pets. Scolding cats doesn't work since they're naturally more fearful and cautious than most predators since they're also prey animals in the wild. Yelling or banging will hit teach him to fear you. It takes time, but any new pet will be noisy. He will stop once he realizes he's safe and he's not getting attention that way.
As for the chinchilla, I happen to have one as well with cats. They grew up with him and generally ignore him in the cage. If we let him out the cats will be stalk/try to play but since they were raised around small pets as kittens and know that their food comes from me, they don't really attack or chase the chinchilla. Cats, again, since they're not as domesticated as dogs have stronger hunting instincts but it's usually converted into play rather than actual attacks (like how kittens playfully restle) I would say slowly introduce them and give him a squirt or push him away gently if he attacks, chases, or tries to wrestle the chinchilla.

Alright so I need advice on how to deal with this piece of shit cat my roommates have.
Now let me start off by saying that they LOVE this cat. He's essentially their child. He's a 6 year old indoor cat, has had medical issues in the past, and has not been neutered. Throughout his entire life they've coddled him to the point of him not trusting anyone/thing else, which makes living here a bit obnoxious for me. Thing is, I have to move somewhere else for a seasonal job, and I'm taking him with me. There's literally nowhere else for him to go. I will be living with a friend in his parent's house. His parents are fine with the cat coming with me, but for safety reasons (their house isn't cat proof) I will have to keep the cat confined in a bedroom while I'm away.

Well it sounds like it's either that or nothing, and 4 months isn't too long so he should be fine. Is the bedroom fairly big? Cat's sleep 15 hours a day so he'll probably adapt to just sleeping while you're gone and being awake in the evenings. Just make a private space for him to hide if he wants and if there's a window make a space so he can look out / lay in the sun. I'm back again for advice, this cat is fucking terrible.
I've tried everything, I'm just not able to afford a diffuser right now. He won't stop attacking me and attacked my boyfriend for the first time last night.
from 4pm to 2am last night he wouldn't stop coming after me, and it's not playful. I don't have to be doing anything. At one point I was just on my phone in bed and he jumped on my head and tried to bite me and i pushed him off and he walked away but kept watching me. He stalks me, but not playfully at all. He just watches my every move. When I got in bed last night he launched himself off the dresser and onto my leg and wouldn't let go, when my boyfriend pushed him he jumped and ran away. It's just like a switch around the same time everyday and I'm scared to even be alone with him. I've got it to where my kittens will come out of hiding to eat.
They're still afraid of me. It seems like eye contact especially freaks them out. They're more comfortable with me being around and not looking at them than they are with me looking at them. They'll play with each other just a few feet out of reach, but still won't let me pet them.
I've tried a few things to get them to not be so afraid. For one, I sit down or even lie on my stomach so that I'm not towering over them. I also try to gently blink at them. I've gotten one of them to eat from my hand. But whenever food isn't involved, they GTFO and hide under the bed or in the closet.
And it's frustrating because they're adorable as fuck. I put some catnip on a rug and they were rolling all over top of each other, wrestling and pouncing and what not. The fact that they look almost identical adds to this. So glad that I got two, so far they've been more entertaining to watch in a few minutes than my last cat was in her entire life, sorry to say.
