Out of all the terrifying things the desert throws at me, these are probably the creepiest. We call them either Sun Spiders or Wind Scorpions. With their legs they get about as big as the top of a soda can. They are closely related to the camel spiders they have in the middle east. They are fiercely territorial too. No joke. These things will fucking chase you. They aren't particularly fast but they can be hard to see in the sand. The jaws on this bitch are strong and sharp enough to cut through the Achilles tendon. Let that thought sink in. They aren't like ants where they only see what's nearby either. They sneak into work a couple times a year. They will spot you across the room and make a beeline for you to fuck your shit up. I like to walk back and forth across the room watching it chase me before catching it and throwing it on an ant pile so the ants have some dinner.

We also have Scorpions, tarantulas, Jerusalem Crickets (which scream), couple venomous snakes, all kinds of scary shit. Never move to the desert. Desert sunsets are the most beautiful in the world, but it's not worth it.

Camel spiders do because the sand in Iraq is about three hundred degrees. It gets hot here but not that hot. So no, wind scorpions chase you to bite you.
>>
>>2130101
>Don't they do that to hide from the sun in your shadow
Yes.
>>
>>2130095
Sun spiders and camel spiders are the same thing. They're an arachnid called solifugids and are distantly related to spiders. They have no venom, rarely bite and are harmless. They run towards people to get in their shadow and escape the hot sun which also exposes them to predators. Have a quick browse of their wiki page, there's a tonne of bullshit and urban legends about them so be careful.

Crane flies/daddy long legs/mosquito Hawks do NOT eat mosquitoes. They are in the family Tipulidae, and most adults live such short lives that they do not eat at all in the adult stage.

Good on you for being rational, though. Many people are irrationally afraid of even those invertebrates that they see every day.

Sorry. Entomologist moment :)

Solifugids (what most call "camel spiders/scorpions" or "sun spiders") do no such thing. Stop making assertions that you can't back up.

So many bugs have terrible, inaccurate reputations among the uninformed (no offense) just because of how they look. If that thing was pink and fluffy with sparkly eyes, no one would be going around claiming it disembowels camels and chases people to bite them. What evolutionary advantage is there to chasing something bigger than you anyway, lol.

Certain tarantulas, on the other hand, apparently DO chase people. Stromatopelma calceatum is one such example, pic related. I know keepers who have claimed such behavior of their adult specimens, and my young ones were certainly no angels.

Is that so? How do you know? I breed tarantulas and can definitely imagine my smaller ones consuming ants, though the ant would definitely be able to put up a fight.

Generally, tarantulas can consume anything small enough that is penetrate by their fangs.

How small do tarantulas come that ants, of all things, can be a decent food source?

This is a funny misconception. A lot of tarantulas are smaller than common shit you see everywhere like some Hogna or Eratigena species.

You're giving them too much credit. Flying insects are dumb and end up in a lot of weird places they have no business being. is this happening at night? If its brighter inside than it is outside they will keep flying in, because they see light and think they are heading outside.

i've had a wierd case where my place would get instantly swarmed by tiny little flies the moment i brought bananas in.
and they only ever went for bananas, i've left apples, pears, oranges, strawberries, and grapes lying out on the open for days, even to the point where they went bad and they got completely ignored. at one point i had a pile of slowly decomposing apple husks lying in the bin and not a single fly on them, meanwhile the fresh banana on my desk is getting dogpiled by a swarm of the little fuckers.
even meat out of the fridge didn't get much attention, especialy with a banana around.

Doesn't actually puncture skin, it just feels like a pinch. Yes actually because most small things that are poisonous enough to actually cause damage to us also usually cause death as well, and since we are at the top of the food chain, but yet still prone to insects and hidden creatures such as snakes, yes it's natural.

I have a heat gun I purchased specifically for eliminating spiders. The agreement is they stay outside of my house, once they come inside their destiny is liquification. I will not share a space with something that crawls into my space and then bites me when I accidentally happen upon it.

last year I didn't notice one had dropped an egg sack in the corner of the ceiling above my stairs. I came home one day to see my ceiling invaded by spiderlings, I swear I killed hundreds of them.

that day wasn't as bad as the time when I was living in an apartment and something had died in the air duct. I woke up one morning to find my entire apartment wall to wall infested with sarcophagid flies that had found their way out through my vent.
On that day devine vengeance took the form of a rolled news paper

You won't be able to kill them alone. I have had to fight bedbugs and it is the absolute worst. Aside from actually calling a bugman like you need to, you can:

-Cover your entire mattress, and box spring in a bedbug cover. This will isolate them until they die (they live 9+ months without food)
-Get the feet of your bed on floor 'interceptors.' These things trap the bugs on their way up to you. Bedbugs cannot fly or crawl up smooth surfaces, like plastic.
-Move your bed away from any walls or surfaces.
-This goes without saying but wash your sheets and dry them on the hottest setting you can get away with.

This will at least create an 'island' that they can't reach when you're sleeping. Bedbugs are attracted to carbon dioxide emitted by humans. If you want to make a trap, there's guides online on how to create a bedbug trap that emits carbon dioxide using yeast for bread.

My house used to be infested with camel crickets until they were all murdered without mercy.

I haven't found one in like a year and a half.

This fuckers, every now and then one gets inside and i have to go carefully trying to knock it down because if i step in it the room will smell horrible for a ling time.

>Clean your house
My house is clean but every time a heavy rain happens they come out the sewers, and for whatever reason there are always a lot in my street.

Also rats have starting to become a problem, i tried gifting poison to my neighbors but they dont want it because they have pets.

You're cool you can stay
>spiders with a web already set up
>jumping spiders
I appreciate you but you are not wanted inside of this house
>bigger spiders that run around
>bees
>moths
I don't like you you are unwelcome/unfortunate and for that you will meet a swift end
>wasps
>my cat brings in a grasshopper
>flies
>mosquitos
>anyone unfortunate enough to take me as a safe spot to stand, sorry but I'll freak out
get the fuck out of my yard
>deer

Ahhhh, I know that's a nymph of something but I forget what. Looks like a dragonfly but they're almost exclusively aquatic.
