Why are there no threads about sugar gliders /an/?
Just recently picked up this little girl and would like to talk about them.
I actually didn't know they could be kept as pets, cute.

They're not for everyone for sure, they are like little squirrels and hyper as fuck for the most part. I prefer bush babies, though both are equally adorable.

Getting more and more common. There's alot where I live in Japan

Cute!
Are they still wild animals?

When you first aquire one they are pretty wild. Also depends on where you attain your sugar glider. Pet stores tend to havelock tamed SGs than breeders who have several generations of chilling out done to theirs. I got mine at a local pet store and yes she's pretty wild but at the same time very controllable as long as you keep an eye on her.

What do you feed her?
I heard you have to be very careful with their diet?

Their diets are a bit complicated but easy to maintain. Fresh fruits, mealworms, some SG specific dry food, and with all that I add a bit of calcium powder to the mix because without it they can have some bone problems and eventually die. Alot of what you hear about their diet is old information before the supplements and food that's available was around.
Knew some people who got one. Sad really, because you could tell they got only because
LE SO CUTE AND EPIC AND RANDOM PET XDDDD and had no idea what they were getting into. Thing is probably dead by now

Can't wait for the "where do I get rid of this fucking sugar glider" thread in 2 weeks

Nah I'm not an idiot

So OP, what made you decide on a sugar glider as a pet instead of something more common like a rat?
Just curious. I see some animals on here sometimes that look cute as fuck, but then I remember there are better alternatives that are still cute, like guinea pigs. That's just me though, I don't like high maintenance unless it's something like a reptile. But even then...

Because SGs aren't rodents and have (arguably) similar intelligence as dogs.
