I like cats, I own one, but compared to dogs in general they're fucking retarded. They don't understand that rooms can have more than one entrance which is why sometimes they wander around the house back to the same spot they were before they think it's a different area.
Cats also don't understand things like pointing but dogs do (they might not get why your pointing but they know you're pointing at something)
That's by today's standards and our cats being actual pets now and being bred for sociability would be smarter than the critters Lovecraft enjoyed.
