in America, the names of insects are deliberately separate or conjoined based on this fact. Honey bees ARE bees, so its two words. Dragonflies are not flies, so it is one word. House flies, Dobsonflies, etc all follow this rule. In Europe they don't give a shit so its honeybees and whatnot.

"Bug" isn't really a specific thing, it's just a common term used to describe insects, spiders, worms, etc. By that definition they most certainly ARE bugs.
